“It's time to let go. Set the people of Cuba free. Oh, and by the way, the embargo met to accomplish this has not worked in 50 years. Time to try something new? http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

“Maybe the world economy will have the impact that the U.S. embargo has never had. Maybe this will help push Cuba toward freedom and democracy. Maybe I'm just learning to be hopeful in a desperate situation. If so, I learned that hopefullness from my friends in Cuba. http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

"It Will Be Resolved Another Way"

Commented Oct 02, 2009 at 11:07:52 in World

“Every few months the Cuban Government makes a change like this, hoping it will improve the economy or that it willthwart the black market economy, or oping that it will keep its critics at bay for another day, year or decade. Things will not improve for Cubans until Cuba is controlled by Cubans, not by the U.S. or the Castro Brothers. http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

“Because you dare to speak your mind about the Cuban government, you are a prisoner of Cuba. It is a sad state of affairs and it is time that it changes. We need to have the political will in the US and from the people of Cuba to make such a change. The embargo is used as an excuse by the Cuban government for its failed economic policies and its continued repression of human rights. It's used in the US as an excuse not to do something meangingful to support democracy in Cuba. http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

“But since this time the President has loosened restrictions further for Cubans visiting relatives. It's time for a close look at our policies toward Cuba and development of new policies that actually get us to our goals of protecting the US and freeing the people of Cuba. http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

“Free speech has its costs as well as its priviledges. Every paper has the right to publish vile and offensive things. Their privilege. The cost is that they have exposed themselves as a vile and offensive entity. That will prove to be a cost. The free market system will reward and punish us all for our rights to speak freely. As long as the government doesn't, I'm cool with that. http://talkingcuba.wordpress.com/

“Yoani's is doing something that 50 years of an embargo could not do. Perhaps it's time we push aside the rhetoric and think as a nation what we should really be doing to help free the people of Cuba. Not to control them, not to use them for our own political purposes, but to free them.

Embargoes are the past. The interent is the future.

Send OffTheBus Your Voting Stories

Commented Nov 04, 2008 at 12:24:35 in Home

“Grand Rapids, MICHIGAN : My son voted today for the first time. When he got to the final step, scanning the ballot, the poll worker said he was missing some numbers on his corresponding ballot car. She took his ballot and said, “wait here while I check this.” He said, “no, I’m following my ballot.” He went with her to get the problem resolved, making sure there was no peeking or switching. It was an honest mistake on the part of an elderly poll worker, but I was proud of the boy for standing up for this very important right!”
