It was made very clear by Sen. Dianne Feinstein at Condalezza Rice's confirmation hearing that the ONLY reason that the US invaded Iraq was because of George W. Bush's claim of WMDs and NOTHING ELSE. The bogus "freeing the country form a dictator" came only after it was clear that they were about to be caught in a lie.

Bush41 said in his book that he didn't stay in Iraq after the first Gulf War because the US would be seen as an occupying force and face with hostilty -which happened after Bush43 ingored his father's wisdom. And let's not forget the lies spread by Bush, Cheney and Condi trying to link Saddam to 911 (I remember at the time having heated arguments with conservatives who bought that one).

Studies at Johns Hopkins University have shown that over 100,000 Iraqi citizens are dead who would not be dead even if Saddam Hussein had remained in power. If freeing a population from a muderous regime were the motivation, why didn't we go into Darfur? Oh that's right - NO OIL.”
