“Especially when the real news is that Captain EO will be reinstated at Disneyland in February! http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/12/21/michael-jacksons-captain-eo-returns-to-disneyland-feb-2010/

“Yeah, I was shocked to hear that Disney was going to put "Captain EO" back at Disneyland. I really wonder what the public reaction to that will be? Will some parents refuse to bring their kids to see it?? I really wonder...Every time I see a story on MJ I have so much sympathy, why? Why do I feel so sorry for what he went through?”

“Actually, they couldn't break MJ, though they sure did damage his health. It is astonishing how strong he was! After all, the people who set the FBI on him were the same crew that took him to court on false charges of pedophilia. The FBI found nothing, the report says-- but now, who or what is the limited release of information protecting? I tend to doubt that FBI techniques are all that vulnerable to exposure!”

“Perhaps the problem is that Obama believes in channeling his hero, President Lincoln, whose policy of crossing the aisle and inviting opponents to a seat at the table and on the cabinet is not at all appropriate for our times.”

tsopffuh nioj replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 07:21:10

“Spot on, methinks. But would we all forgive Mr Obama if we were to look back on Copenhagen in a year, and see it as the point where the G2 (the U.S. and China) replaced the old nexus of the U.S. and the U.K. running the world, particularly if the G2 does a climate deal next year, and the rest of the world follows suit?

But I guess even that would not fix Obama's stuff-ups, as described here by NK. Garry Wills described Obama as an "entangled giant" and a potentially "one-term president", in the NYRB http://www.nybooks.com/authors/85. Likewise, Doonesbury seems to be fed up with trying to defend Obama (is an icon forthcoming?). Frustration with Obama seems to be moving to a new level.”

Feminomics: Women and Bankruptcy

Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 05:14:00 in Business

“As soon as you define your marriage with a pre-nup, you issue an open invitation to divorce lawyers to cash in on the agreement at your own expense before your pre-nup becomes invalid, which Ms. Suze fails to recognize! The problem is not usually that ex-wives have to pay their former spouses' debts, although that is known to happen. The more frequent problem is that former husbands often do not pay what the court orders, specifically to force their former wives to capitulate about support needs, and thereby to free up their income to spend on other women. There is no effective way to address this situation.”

mommamia526 replied on Dec 20, 2009 at 21:44:46

“Also mentioned. People who are immigrants and became citizens in the U.S. may have prenups made up in foreign courts. Example, a woman may own real estate and have capital, because she worked and earned it herself before marriage. When she gets married the man may want that in his name, and sometimes, in some countries, the woman may not be able keep her possessions in her own name, and a prenup will be made up to get at that real estate and capital to make up for it in case of a divorce. Good luck enforcing that prenup. Is not going to happen. It may also be the case that that same woman put her husband through a professional education (remember Betty Broderick's case + add the immigrant angle to that). We need some really sharp women lawyers to look at all those angles. Things are very complicated in today's world. It is not only important to the women, it is important to society, as it may prevent her and her offspring from becoming destitute and dependent on transfer payments and aid.”

mommamia526 replied on Dec 20, 2009 at 21:35:28

“Exactly! And as I mentioned, if the ex spouse (temporarily) moves to another country, and he and his new paramour make little trips and charge up old creditcards, you WILL be made to pay up. Also, if you have children they will have his name, and you may still have that name as well. If he does not pay, and you do not pay, YOU will get a bad creditrating, as he is nowhere in sight, or is out of the jurisdiction of the courts. There are other angles as well, as with unpaid taxes, amounts owed on mortgages by third parties you have never met or heard of, etc.”

“Not on "whatever they wanted"!!!! Women most often use the money to cover family expenses and medical costs in the face of ridiculously low child support awards which often don't get paid at all.”

“We do have countless public buildings raised in imitation of Greek and Roman temples across the country instead. But as kings and such go, there is a gigantic statue of George Washington in Greek or Roman robes at the Smithsonian, so there. Generally, it was monarchs and princes who mythologized themselves in commissioned art, and MJ was, after all, the King of Pop. Rock and Soul. Perfectly appropriate to have his own painter, though he started out as our Mozart, a uniquely American progression!”
