Too Fat To Graduate? Lincoln University's BMI Requirement Causes Uproar
Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 10:44:11 in Living
“One would hope that university policy makers would be better informed, but I'm routinely reminded that higher ed administrations tend to be the last to make use of the knowledge being generated by students and faculty in their institutions. Requiring a phys ed course based solely on BMI can't be based on anything other than rank prejudice. I'm also wondering--why don't they require phys ed courses of all students (except those with medical exceptions)? That was the requirement when I was an undergrad.”

Scientologists Blame Psychiatry For 9/11 (VIDEO)
Commented Feb 18, 2009 at 10:31:56 in Home
“All, or at least almost all Scientologists know, deep down, they've let themselves be brainwashed. Their accusation that psychiatry is responsible for brainwashing people to become terrorists is psychological projection on their part.”

Ashcroft: Bush Is "Most Respectful Ever" Of Civil Liberties
Commented Feb 10, 2008 at 13:48:22 in Politics
“Wow--to equate WWI and WWII with Bush's preemptive war based on fabricated "intelligence" is bizarre. I have huge respect for the way Ashcroft stood up to Gonzalez when he was so ill, but on this one (as on so many others in his career) he clearly has his head where the sun doesn't shine.”

Parsing 'Surge' Commentary, Schieffer Gets To The Heart Of The Matter

“Presumably because Mr. Schieffer is too good a journalist of the old school, while CBS News seems intent on descending to Fox's level.”

“horsemanure...liposucked and botoxed blondes are better eye-candy than a middleaged male journalist. CBS simply looked at demographics and decided a non-news news format would allow them to increase their dollars per second ad rates.”

“This kind of dehumanizing and demonizing "humor" is part of the problem. Anything that dehumanizes ANYONE is part of the problem. As a therapist who spent 20 years working with victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse, the victims' feeling the perpetrator isn't human is a normal part of their healing process. Third parties, and especially media, jumping on the dehumanizing/demonizing bandwagon is way out of line.
Dehumanizing is the first step in making victims of others. You align yourselves with perpetrators when you do as they do.”
