Sting, 58, Preparing For The Winter Of His Life

Sting, 58, Preparing For The Winter Of His Life

Commented Nov 26, 2009 at 14:55:31 in Entertainment

“Like it or not, 35 or 40 is middle age. Calling 58 middle age is denial.”

persimmon8 replied on Nov 26, 2009 at 17:11:37

“The article didn't say at 58 he was middle-aged. Sting just said he was not yet in the winter of his life. I would interpret the winter of my life as when I would really start winding everything down and do lots more contemplation and begin to prepare for death. for Sting this will likely be in his seventies and eighties.”

“Yes, I know how ridiculous, dumb and ignorant I sound. Once again, I have written something intended to be so completely over the top, cynical and sarcastic yet apparently not so outrageous as to be unbelievable. I did not say that is how I think things ought to be. I was stating how things are. Banks and Wall Street got a big bail out. Do you wonder why? It wasn't even as if their exec's were losing their McMansions yet they got more then the folks losing their homes. Too big to fail, indeed. For the record, I have been running a homeless shelter and related programs for nearly 25 years.”

“If they had "asked" him, they would not have arrested him. They commanded him and when he failed to obey their command, they took him into custody. Except it reads like he obeyed their command yet he didn't have complete and total control over the crowd and that is what they arrested him for.”

“We live in a participatory democracy and by the sheer numbers of their lobbyists and size of their campaign contributions people who are homeless aren't participating. People who are homeless need to step up to the plate. Our government works for those who pay for it. If the people who are homeless want something, they aren't going to get it for nothing. Money is access and it doesn't much matter which party is in power. It's the American way. Any notions of some kind of altruistic Parson Weems nobility are pure vanity at best and more likely some phony front office window dressing to make the Babbits feel good about themselves.
It's Monday. This is how I feel about the world today.”

“Why anyone would want to be part of such a hurtful organization is beyond me. Considering the sins of the church, that they would make judgements on anyone's fitness to 'practice' is simply bizarre. They need to get the log out of their own eye. I know, today, they usually remove their priests who have sex with children from ministry. Do they preclude them from communion? When I was growing up in Catholic schools, children were routinely beaten and abused in ways that would send anyone, even a nun, to prison today. I know it was standard practice but do they deny them communion or even ask for penitence? In their own histories, the church has behaved like a mafia organization. Do they ever try to atone for any of that? Their obsession with celibacy has led to a continuous history of perversion and abuse. It hardly began in America in the twentieth century. They have even sainted some of these monsters. They really need to stop acting holier then thou. They are not, by a long shot.”

“Those are just liberal spoilers, who can't stand Sarah, trying to make a scene wherever she appears. Real fans would be happy to crawl through moose manure for a mile just to see her bus pass. We don't care if she doesn't always speak in complete sentences. It doesn't matter if what she says today in contradicted by old notes and emails. She said it, we believe it and that settles it. Go back to your lattes, intellectual obsessions and other liberal elitest stuff.”

“Spanish was the first language to displace the native tongues for centuries before English entered the southern states from Florida to California. However much it drives the descendants of northern eurocentric anglo saxons crazy, Spanish was and is the first language of millions of people who have lived here long before east coast agression conquered the south. Not all Spanish speakers are immigrants by a long shot.”

“Had Dobbs ratings, he would not have "quit". Had Dobbs ratings the network would not have let him out of his contract. Dobbs shift from being a news reader to being the news was problematic for a network that wants to be taken seriously as a news source. Bottom line, Dobbs was hurting their 'brand image'. Lots of people are allowed to resign just short of being fired. It allows both to save face. Nothing will ever convince me anything else took place.”

Agent420 replied on Nov 15, 2009 at 12:50:14

“People do not seem to understand the influence TV and advertising has on the public. Here is a glaring example of what I mean. "Brand image" is commercial public relations nomenclature. Now people are using the term because of their lack of understanding as to how persuasive advertising is. Every person should have to take a course in advertising. I did in high school and it was one of the best classes I have taken. It has armed me against advertising. I don't eat their crap dressed up in fools gold.”

(For the unsure; this is intended to be dripping with sarcasm. I hope a lot of the idiotocracy choose her brand of leadership and quit. The crackpot coalition, by the degree of their preposterous lunacy, make it hard to be over the top with satire. No matter how ridiculous you write it, there are those who find it plausable from either extreme.)”

“So Goldman kbows where the bottom line is. Goldman prefers the status quo for their bottom line. Goldman and others of that corporate strata call the shots. In times of difficulty it is Americans who must sacrifice. Corporations must work for the bottom line. The business of America really is business. That is what all those MBA"s are about. That is what the business schools teach. America has become more about protecting corporate property rightsthen giving a rats derrierre about an individual's 'rights'. The Cheney administration's "Patriot Act" should have made that clear but only if you had your eyes open. Be good consumers and send your children off to die for the Ramjac corporation. We are blind wage slaves in bondage to the top one percent.”

“To be sure, their profit margins are set so that any fines fall under the cost of doing business and their lackeys in congress work to make it so. Republican cries to end government regulation, get out of the way of business and let the market place do what it does best are just that. "These companies are too big to fail is simply bullet proofing rackets that make Al Capone look like a chump. How many times will our congress go, hat in hand, to kiss their ring. We should hold the CEO's of these companies criminally laible for the deaths and disabilities they have caused. Only then will they really work to ensure these crimes don't take place. Make no mistake, their congressional puppets are using these fines to argue for malpratice reform and against universal healthcare. Thei malpractice reform is nothing more then elevating the self proclaimed "Healthcare" industry above the law.”
