“Mr. Rove is an example of a 'phantom expert.' He gained recognition by fear mongering during the Bush administration, but this does not translate into any other realm in political science. Politics is really about human behavior, and he lacks any insight in this area.”
“There is a difference in meaning of the word depending on where the accent is stressed on pronunciation. Retard' is not the same as Re'tard. The manner is which Ann Coulter used the word was a clearly insulting and demeaning reference to the second term.”
“Mr Kuttner, a relevant question to be asked is, how damaged was the economy at the beginning of President Obama's term? An apt analogy is, if you are stricken with a life-threatening illness, is it fair to as a physician to 'make you totally healed' in a specified period of time? No it isn't. Until someone can assess exactly how damaged the economy was at the end of Bush's term, it is irrational to say that the economy should be better off than it is now. Relatively speaking, and considering global effects, albeit slowly, we may be progressing at an appropriate pace.”

“I think you are missing the point.
what is our president doing to shore up his support by reassuring voters that things will pick up in the next four years? More public investment, more jobs, more overhaul of the financial system, more relief for the mortgage mess, right?
Well, not exactly. While he gives lip service to these goals, Obama is preparing to do a major deal for deficit reduction, which will only add to the drag on the recovery. His administration has bought into the argument that the business elite and the money markets expect deficit reduction, and that it will also play well with the voters.
I mean, you were a voter, and saw that Obama hadn't put a single banker on trial, and was talking about cutting social security, what would you think ?
To a certain extent, it is about Obama's attitude: instead of defending soc sec, he is talking about cutting it. Instead of putting bankers in jail, he goes on TV and praises Jamie Dimon's salary.
Maybe he couldn't have done more with the GOP congress, but when Obama talks like a republican - cut soc sec - what am i to think ?
to put it again clearly: Obama, when he talks about the "grand bargain" is promoting a republican talking point that is tax cuts for the rich and cuts in soc sec.
How is this evidence of a better second term ?”

“More federal deficit spending, and less concern about federal debt would have grown the economy far more.

“It was well said just two days ago by Oliver Stone: "Obama took a bad situation and made it worse." "Nuff said."”

“Exactly.... funny how they always leave out that part...
Or how about projecting where we'd be if we stayed on the trajectory left by Bush....
Obama ended the Great Recession.... how about some credit for that?”
