“Modern science indicates that ingesting fluoride does not reduce tooth decay. Furthermore, fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth as it was believed to be when fluoridation began.

Over 2,660 professionals urge the US Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted, citing scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. See http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html.2007.html.

Fluoridation is the addition of unnecessary fluoride chemicals into public water supplies ostensibly to reduce tooth decay in tap water drinkers.

Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people.

Approximately, 80 US communities rejected fluoridation in 2008 & 2009 because fluoride chemicals' alleged benefits do not outweigh the risks.”

“Who put dentists in charge anyway. The American Dental Association is just a union created to protect the best interest of dentists and it has way too much power. Sometimes tthe ADA seems no better than other groups formed to protect corporations such as the American Council on Science and Health. The ADA is heavily funded by corporations that benefit from dentists placing sealants, mercury, fluoride - all scientifically proven to be harmful to health

The millions of dollars derived from corporations gives the ADA the political clout to get laws passed or not passed for the benefit of dentists - not the American public.”

“You're right. More sugar = More cavities. Actually, the only scientifically-valid predictor of future cavities is current cavities and poverty.

Since fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth, a fluoride-deficient diet does not cause tooth decay. So there's no scientifically valid reason for adding fluoride to water supplies and siphoning off millions of dollars that can be used for other critical services.

The dentist income and fluoridation analogy is made because dentists boast that they are the only profession willing to put themselves out of business by promoting this "free" public health program . They also claim to care so deeply for poor people that they want to "give back" by making governments spend our money fluoridating the water.

However, 80% of dentists refuse Medicaid patients and 130 million Americans don't have dental insurance. So unfilled cavities are a national epidemic and disgrace.

In order to stave off inevitable mandates to treat all Americans, organized dentistry has gone on the offensive by convincing legislators that fluoridation will solve the problem.

But that's false.

We need to train dental therapists in this country to do the work that dentists refuse to do. But organized dentistry is way too powerful and lobbies against this perfect solution because they like their lucrative monopoly - even if Americans must suffer.

Without organized dentistry, there would be no fluoridation.”

“Just an F.Y.I. Modern science proves that ingesting fluoride (such as water fluoridation) is ineffective at reducing tooth decay, harmful to health and a waste of millions of dollars annually.

Children’s cavity rates are similar whether water is fluoridated or not, according to data published in the July 2009 Journal of the American Dental Association by dentist J.V. Kumar of the NY State Health Department .

In 2008, New York City spent approximately $24 million on water fluoridation ($5 million on fluoride chemicals). In 2010, NYC’s fluoride chemicals will cost $9 million .

Fluoride in water at “optimal” levels (0.7 – 1.2 mg/L) is supposed to reduce tooth decay without creating excessive fluorosis (fluoride-discolored and/or damaged teeth). Yet cavities are rampant in NY’s fluoridated populations

More fluoride = more money for dentists?

Dentists' Nominal Net Income for 2000 was $533,000 up from $141,000 in 1982, according to the American Dental Assolciation Survey published in the March 2005 Journal of the American Dental Association. During the same time period, the number of Americans living in fluoridated communites went from 116 million to 172 million.

“Dentists lobby successfully for laws that benefit themselves and the campaign coffers of our legislators. In several states, they instigated laws for mandatory dental check ups for school children; but we already know that 6.5 million children on Medicaid have untreated tooth decay because 80% of dentists refuse Medicaid. This new law squeezes even more money out of people who need dental care the least.

130 million Americans lack dental insurance so a dental health crisis persists Many dentists make three times as much as physicians while working fewer hours and days doing less critical work. Now dentists are lobbying to ban those tooth whitening kiosks - dentists want the tooth whitening monopoly, too, and drain more money from wealthier Americans...

Groups willing to fill the dental void include dental therapists, trained for 2 or 3 years to drill, who drill, fill and pull teeth. DTs have worked successfully in other first world countries. But the rich powerful US dental lobby fights hard to make our legislators reject DTs.

Last year the Louisiana Dental Association actually got a law passed forbidding a Medicaid-accepting dentist from bringing dental care into the schools because the LDA says he was taking business away from local dentists - who don't take Medicaid patients anyway.

The New York Times reported how the NYS Dental Society always gets its way in the NYS legislature.”

“Actually, those naturally fluoridated areas of the US had calcium fluoride in their water supply. The areas also housed the wealthier and healthier citizens. That's why dentists flocked there as they do today - abandoning the least healthy with the greatest need. Instead, throwing some fluoride in their water and saying "what a good boy am I."

When researchers in the early 1900's discovered that fluoride was the tooth-discoloring culprit, they assumed it was also the cavity-preventing hero. Soon, researchers reported that teeth need calcium. They do not need fluoride.

So today people line up when "mission of mercy" dental clinics pop up in their neighborhoods and display teeth that are seen in third world countries. Tooth decay is growing in our most fluoridated generation - toddlers. And fluoride discolored teeth (dental fluorosis) has grown to afflict up to 50% of the school children, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Modern science shows that ingesting fluoride does not reduce tooth decay. Fluoride does harden the outer enamel by topical means alone.

There is no scientific reason to fluoridate the water or to ingest fluoride either from the water supply, food or supplements

“Few people know that fluoride supplements also were NOT safety tested by the FDA. They were "grandfathered in" because sodium fluoride was being sold before 1938 when laws were enacted requiring the testing of new drugs. However, the only use for sodium fluoride in 1938 was as a rat poison.

When fluoridation began in the 1940's, dentists assumed that ingested fluoride via a pill would equate the cavity preventing effects they thought fluoridation would deliver.

However, modern science indicates that ingesting fluoride does not reduce tooth decay.

A recent review of studies published in the Journal of the American Dental Associations reports that fluoride supplements deliver no benefits to primary teeth; but put toddlers at increase risk of dental fluorosis - white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted teeth.

“Also a problem is that even if every American is covered, will that mean we are guaranteed to be cared for. For example, Medicaid now pays for dental care among low-income Americans. But 80% of dentists refuse to treat medicaid patients because of its low reimbursement. So many people are forced to get dental care in hospital emergency rooms when their dental pain becomes unbearable. This often costs the taxpayers ten times the cost of a simple filling.

In recent years, two children died from the consequences of untreated tooth decay.

And sometimes prevention is a smoke screen - such as water fluoridation which cost the city of New York $24 million in 2008. But to save money, the Mayor is cutting dental clinics as a saving of one tenth of water fluoridation.

Modern science indicates that fluoridation is ineffective at reducing tooth decay, harmful to health and a waste of money. Only politics keeps it alive. I wonder what other boondoggles we pay for because our legislators want to keep special interest groups happy.”

“There is absolutely no evidence linking non-fluoridated bottled water with more tooth decay. When this information first hit the air ways, the American Dental Association had no clue who started this misinformation campaign. Now, all of a sudden, there are many bottlers selling fluoridated bottled water and dentists seem to have jumped on the bandwagon

They should know better because their dental journals are screaming with evidence that American children are fluoride overdosed and it's ruining their teeth and their self esteem

The Centers for Disease Control reports that up to 48% of US school children sport dental fluorosis - white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted enamel from ingesting too much fluoride.

As a result the American Dental Association and the CDC both advise that infant formula NOT be mixed with fluoridated water.

No American child is or ever was fluoride deficient as fluoride is not a nutrient nor required for healthy teeth. So consuming a fluoride-free diet or from a fluoride-free water supply does NOT cause tooth decay.

“Fluoride, neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth, should definitely be suspected of contributing to the large increase in Autism cases - both alone and synergistically with other chemicals.

"It is not clear that the benefits of
adding fluoride to drinking water outweigh risks of neurodevelopment
or other effects such as dental fluorosis," according to an Institute
for Children's Environmental Health report. (Feb 2008)

Fluoride chemicals are purposely added to 2/3 of U.S. public water supplies
ostensibly to reduce tooth decay but not to treat the water. Fluoride is found in dental
products, supplements and virtually all foods and beverages made with fluoridated water.

"Excessive fluoride ingestion is known to lower thyroid hormone
levels, which is particularly critical for women with subclinical
hypothyroidism; decreased maternal thyroid levels adversely affect
fetal neurodevelopment," reports a prestigious committee of
scientists and health professionals in a "Scientific Consensus

“Achieving cavity-free status has little to do with fluoride intake, reports a study in the Fall 2008 Journal of Public Health Dentistry.

IFS researchers report, "The benefits of fluoride are mostly topical…
while fluorosis is clearly more dependent on fluoride intake."

They explain that when fluoridation began in the 1940’s, “it was
believed that fluoride needed to be ingested early in life to provide
[cavity] prevention…Today, evidence suggests that…the benefits of
fluoride are mostly topical.”

The IFS researchers find that “firmly recommending an ‘optimal’
fluoride intake is problematic.” They agree with fluoride researchers
Burt and Eklund that the term “optimal fluoride intake” be dropped
from common usage.

In 2003, IFS researchers wrote, "There is no specific nutritional
requirement for fluoride.” They described the fluoride content of some
foods. For example:

-- Processed chicken: 4.4 ppm and 10.0 ppm fluoride
-- Cereals: 3.8 to 6.3 ppm
-- Creamed spinach: 2 ppm
-- Soft drinks: up to 1.55 ppm
-- Decaffeinated tea: 3.19 ppm
-- White grape juice: 4 ppm
-- Ready-to-feed infant formula: from 0.15 to 0.30 ppm

This well-done, long-term study by respected fluoride researchers,
and published piecemeal in several scientific journals, tells us that
fluoride ingestion, such as fluoridated water and supplements, is
causing dental defects with little, if any, benefit”

“6.5 million children on Medicaid suffer with unfilled cavities because 80% of dentists won't accept Medicaid - too little money for their rich blood. Dentists accept welfare for the rich in the form of tuition and dental school government subsidies. Dentists must be required to give back. Instead they force legislators to throw fluoride chemicals into the public water supplies - as if that were a solution.

The current Journal of Public Health Dentistry reveals that African American children are ingesting too much fluoride and are more likely to suffer from fluoride-induced discolored teeth (dental fluorosis). Yet tooth decay is highest among this population. At least two children have died as a result of untreated cavities. Thousands seek emergency room care at taxpayer expense.

New York City spent $24 million on fluoridation in 2008, alone. Yet they want to save $2.5 million by cutting dental clinics. I'd say they have that arse backwards.

There is clear evidence that fluoridation does not reduce tooth decay but does expose the whole population to fluoride's adverse health effects while wasting our tax dollars.

All those people your father listed in favor of fluoridation were misled. Endorsements don't mean anything. You have to look at the substance of the issue - not the people who are for or against it.

there is no dispute that too much fluoride discolors children's teeth and damages bones. The American Dental Association tells parents to tally their children's daily fluoride intake and avoid excessive exposure. But how?

Sulfuryl fluoride has been approved as a post-harvest fumigant on produce, nuts and grains. The FDA is allowing very high fluoride residues to remain on the the food.

Water fluoridation also allows an unregulated amount of fluoride to flow into our bodies eitiher directly or from foods made in fluoridated cities.

“The sad reality is that, in this economy, more people can't afford bottled water. The least healthy Americans are usually the lowest incomed and will be exposed to toxins in the tap water supply such as fluoride which is adversely affect their health even more. See FluorideAction.Net/health.

The recent report of a Florida Mom who caused her child's near-death experience when she watered down formula to make it stretch, shows that parents as well as the media doesn't know that infant formula must NOT be mixed with fluoridated water and that infants fluoride intake shouldn't exceed an extremely low 0.01 mg of fluoride a day, according to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Dental Association.

Some parents add tap water to milk and other liquid beverages to make it stretch between pay-checks or food stamps.

Excess fluoride risks dental fluorosis - yellow discolored teeth which is the body's outward warning that too much fluoride was ingested. Unseen is the damage fluoride ingestion causes to bones, thyroid and kidney function. Also, over 20 studies done in other countries link low level fluoride ingestion to lowered IQ
Since fluoride is neither a nutrient nor required for healthy teeth, there is no harm from avoiding it.

Many people go to doctors only to be misdiagnosed because the doctor doesn't recognize the symptoms. Giving placebos will give patients the false impression their ill health is going to improve by a doctor who really doesn't even know what the problem is and prevent them from seeking care from a physician who could really help

Common ailments often misdiagnosed are: thryoid dysfunction, ovarian cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, endometriosus, skeletal fluorosis. In fact, google "often misdiagnosed" and see all the illnesses that pop up.

If docs would just say "I don't know," the patient could continue their search for help.

“The fluoride in toothpaste can be tooth damaging also

Fluoride exposure is rising and causing children’s tooth imperfections, ranging from white spots to brownish discolorations and pitting (fluorosis), dentist Elivir Dincer reports in the New York State Dental Journal.

“Such changes in the tooth’s appearance can affect the child’s self-esteem which makes early prevention that much more critical,” writes Dincer.

Children, aged 2 to 7 years, can swallow about one-quarter milligram of fluoride with every brushing because their swallowing reflexes are not fully developed, reports Dincer.

“Children from the age of 6-months to 3-years should not have more than one-quarter milligram of fluoride per day. Brushing the teeth of a 2-year-old twice a day will expose the child to about one-half milligram, exceeding the allowable [daily] limits” [from toothpaste alone], writes Dincer.

Intentionally swallowing the toothpaste which is likely, given the pleasant flavor of children’s toothpaste, increases children’s fluorosis risk, Dincer reports.

Fluoridated water, supplements, mouth rinses and/or foods add to daily fluoride intake.

Up to 48% of children have fluorosis, with 4% moderate/severe (yellow/brown teeth), reports the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)

“Water and processed beverages (e.g., soft drinks ) can provide approximately 75% of a person's fluoride intake,” according to the CDC.
