“I very much doubt that debeers is either old enough, or up on congressional history enough to know why Medicare even came about. It was because people who retired at 65 were UNABLE to get health insurance at ANY price. Thje insurance companies would not even talk to them about coverage.

“Why load MORE of the people who require the most medical attention and care onto Medicare? The answer to both the health care problem and the Medicare problem is so SIMPLE. Put everyone on Medicare. The young and healthy will pay lower premiums, and their premiums will fix the shortfall in Medicare. This works all over the rest of the world. Why is it so hard to understand?”

“Here's one reason, bigtex. My son ,who is insured by a NOT FOR PROFIT company just got a notice of a 75% increase in his premium. This is for a healthy 45 yr old. So how hard do you think it is going to be to "maintain" his insurance? He DID NOT get a 75% increase in his income.”

“Have you been keeping up at all with the obstructionist tactics that the Repubs have been pulling in the health care debate? Did you read Jed Gregg's manifesto for stalling and obstruction? The Senate does not have a supermajority, and that is the problem. When the Republicans held the majority, there were some Dems who would vote for legislation if they believed in it.
