“1) If you are stu.pid enough to miss work, stand out in cold weather (with your small children), and wait in line for hours just to have your book signed by an insecure twit, then I can't say that I have much sympathy for you.

2) I'm curious to see how quickly it takes SP to blame this on her "handlers".”

“what's a "family" neighborhood? as opposed to a "non-family" residential neighborhood. I think that by "family" neighborhood you mean middle- to upper-class and probably conservative, etc. Because there are a lot of families that live in other residential neighborhoods that struggle with endemic problems of poverty, homelessness, crime, etc. and I don't see you or anyone else up in arms about THAT phenomenon. You see, when you say "family" neighborhood you are indexing all of those things listed above and conjuring up a space where homeless people seem absurdly out of place (in your mind). But, why shouldn't these families also have to confront the negative human effects of our social and economic system?”

Overdraft Fees Require Customer Consent, Says The Federal Reserve

Overdraft Fees Require Customer Consent, Says The Federal Reserve

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 17:26:29 in Business

“Thanks to all who called HBD out for being a j.erk. You beat me to it. Just to clarify...my point is that they shouldn't be able to change the terms of use on you without telling you. And the fact that they tried to play it off as a benefit to me just added insult to injury. I happened to be very broke and unemployed at the time, so yes it was hard to stretch my money. I had a hard time imagining how charging me an additional $25 for a $1 bagel was a service, when in the past the store just declined my card. I of course had to take responsibility for my negligence by paying the overdraft fees, but those fees should be recognized for what they are...a money-making scheme that offers absolutely no benefit to customers.”

Patriot86 replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 17:36:58

“They can charge you if you try to use your card with no money...even if they give you money so I don't see this as helpful”

Overdraft Fees Require Customer Consent, Says The Federal Reserve

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 16:22:40 in Business

“Thank god! When that first happened to me (because there was a time when stores just didn't accept my card if I had no money), I went to my bank to complain. They told me that it was courtesy for customers. I about lost it. They should have to ask permission before allowing you to overdraft on your check card. The idea of overdraft charges is just asinine, and so clearly a gimmick for banks to make money. courtesy my a$$.”

oliv0128 replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 17:29:22

“Not to mention the banks that hold deposits for ungodly amounts of time, waiting until you make some charges (all while thinking you have sufficient funds) so they can intentionally stick you with overdraft fees. Fortunately, my bank didn't do that, but I had many friends with that problem. I won't name names...I'll just say the bank's initials were W and F.”

HBD replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 16:30:51

“Yeah! It's all their fault that you spent more money than you had. It's their fault that you didn't keep track of how much money was left in your account. Yeah! You tell 'em!”
