“Y'know, when I was a kid, I saw the old Loony Tunes cartoon where Porky went to Wackyland to find the last of the dodos and Wackyland was this absolutely crazy place where nothing made sense. At the time, I use to think if that was me - if I were suddenly dropped into some kind of weird Alice-in-Wonderland world like that - I'd probably be okay. I thought I could get use to a place like that in a relatively short amount of time and soon I'd fit right in. The more I see stuff like this video, however, the more I realize, I already kinda live in that world and I actually CAN'T get use to it. In a lot of ways, the world in general - and America in particular - could hardly BE more insane. Yet, despite having grown up surrounded by this insanity, it continues to surprise me. I continue to expect things to make sense. The only thing keeping me sane is wondering what fresh absurdity people will come up with next and TRYING to be prepared for it. You cant help but stand back in AWE of the kind of straight-jacket inasnity that could come up with this. You have to laugh at it, or YOU'LL go crazy, too.”

Joe Lieberman's Anti-Public Option Rationale Keeps Shifting

“That's because when one looks at how well public health care works for most countries that have it, the only logical conclusion is that it has to be the lobbyists paying him to object. Only lobbyist money can convince a politician that a public system is a bad idea when this is statistically untrue.”

“Their power is fading on this issue. The old lies about being addictive and a major health hazard are working less and less. They don't have a body count to point to and even if they did, it would never be as high as the body count for tobacco and alcohol. I don't know how they could demonize it again. They've tried, but the science that vindicates pot is winning. The garbage about potency isn't working. The fact that it's now being used as medicine is particularly damning to prohibition. How can they call it dangerous when it helps people and has zero fatalities? What can they say about pot that doesn't go double for tobacco and alcohol? They can't make it a moral issue as long as both of those are legal.”

“I'd like to reject the notion that people smoke pot to feel better. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are many who do smoke for that reason, but I would guess the majority smoke not to feel better, but for the sensations and state of mind that only being high can bring. It's the same reason people drink alcohol. Marijuana enhances many things. It makes the food taste better, it makes the music sound better, and it makes you think in new and different ways. To believe that most tokers do so to escape from their miserable reality is ignorant and self-righteous, so I hope that's not what you were suggesting.”

“Having majority public support in 4 or 5 years won't mean much. As with the Senate, we need at LEAST a super-majority long before the federal government will get on board. That won't be for another 15 years. I'm confident I'll be able to smoke freely in my lifetime, but we're still a long way off. Again, legalization will happen at the state and local level long way before Capitol Hill will even dream of moving to end prohibition. We need ballot measures in every city, town, and state. That's where we start.”

But alcohol and tobacco must be paying you also, to be against it. Perhaps it would interest you to know they are connected to insurers also, knowing they are extremely toxic and poisonous to the body and cells.

Pot is NOT.”

“You have mistakenly believed that Obama&Democrats want public health care.

If the Bush years taught us nothing else, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that Bush&R0ve were geniu$es & knew something that nobody else knew; Bush&R0ve were just more ruthle$$ (clum$y & careless many political graybeards would say) in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine & the oldest, most experienced politicians in our nation's history (including the R0ve machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep the impe@chment of Bush&Cheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?

Obama&Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but that they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them in spite of their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objectives.”

“There's really only one Senator he needs to talk to: Lieberman. If he can convince Lieberman to block the filibuster, we can get this thing done. The question is, is Joe Lieberman crazier than Kim Jong Il?”

knightoftheroundtable replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 22:06:06

MuchMadness replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 21:51:48

“No. Senator Reid must be compelled to change the cloture rules so that filibusters become a thing of the past. Progressives must work to guarantee Senator Reid's defeat in 2010 if he does not allow the rules to be changed. The constitution says that the senate can set its own rules, and that means that at any time the rules can be changed by simple majority vote even if some previous senate set a different rule. A past senate cannot bind the current senate or deprive it of its right to set the rules by simple majority vote.”

He could've dressed as Bush. He could've gone as a zombie and said he was the Republican health care plan.
