“What? I wish people would make up their minds. Either we were attacked by 19 Saudis on 9/11 or we weren't. That is why we need the trials to be conducted here in this country and in New York. Truth can finally start coming out. The right is playing CYA time on an uber scale. Left up to them, we would never know anything. Period.”

“Thank you. We have sat on our collective butts and bitched since Obama got sworn in. I am ready, willing and able to protest, march, rally or do anything else. We were as strong as hell during the campaign and on the day the Prez was sworn in. After that, we have pretended that he is Aladdin and sat back and complained. About everything! Do I agree with all that he has done, no. I write, call and say so. But, I am one voice ready for those with the resources to tell us what actions we can take besides calling and sitting at the computer and posting. This is getting old Jane. You have the ability to pull people together along with your other leading bloggers and radio talkers. What are you waiting for? Right now it looks like stealth-Stupak and his C-Street boys have more power than the netroot gang! Show up like you did on inauguration day, and I bet Rahm will be hiding under his desk!”

“Fanned/faved for the sentiment, now for facts. Stupak's bill's based on 33 year old Hyde Amendment of 1976, which denied fed funds for abortion, but only poor women relied on fed funds (Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, Indian Health Service). Now the once-middle-class can't afford health care, so if we want any subsidies plus choice, Hyde must go or Stupak stands. It'll take at least a year, probably longer. In 1980, the Hyde was revised to forbid fed funds for rape/incest abortions. It took 13 years, until 1993, to turn it back so at least it now covers that.
We gave them an inch and let them discriminate against the poor. They took a mile and now discriminate against the middle class when it's been decimated, indebted, and needs subsidies. It took years of organized activism to get the right to choice. It'll take at least a year probably more to get it back.”

“Your not being a fan...is that based on his works or because you don't like his politics? I didn't like Jimmy Stewarts politics, but one of my favorite films is "It's A Wonderful Life." I don't think I can afford to dismiss people's creative work based on their politics. That would leave a lot of great artists out of the mix. Just seems a little short sided to me.”

Roy Blunt (R-MO) Tells Racism-Tinged Monkey Joke at DC Conference
Commented Sep 21, 2009 at 18:56:01 in Politics
“That's one of the many reasons I left St. Louis years ago. I knew racism would still be present, but I wanted my family to experience a level of culture and diversity that Missouri could not provide. Blunt and his audience know exactly what they are doing. Funny though, they still think that plays well to a broader audience. I hope Blunt and those like him live for a very long time. I have a feeling they will be hysterically freaked out in a few years. I hope I live to see it!”

“People of color know when they are being targeted with racism. There is a well documented history of those kind of jokes. I want them to go all out, hog wild racist in every meeting, public setting, and cable channel op they can. The rest of the country and the world should see the republicans for who they are without their sheets. I think the audience who supports them should be exposed as well. At that point, the rest of us have the option of deciding how we want to treat them. They aren't always grouped together.Sometimes they have to face the music alone. A little public shunning goes a long, long way. Overt racists shouldn't have their businesses patronized. I know its "old school" but the civil rights movement had it right. Hit them in the wallet. I think most of them think we are still in the 50's. Think again folks. Maybe you can get away with foolishness in the South, but I bet you got a taste of how well that stuff plays now while you were in D.C. I know you got rid of some of your mouth before you got on the Metro....”

“I've been thinking about what Hillary would have done in this situation with Bill's triangulation. Been thinking about what McCain would have done, or any of the other major candidates in the past election cycle. Think I'll stick with President Obama for the time being. He's the one who can change courses if need be ( Hillary backed her war vote till the bitter end). McCain is covering for Palin's lies even as late as today on This Week. Amazingly, people are still casting Obama as Aladdin instead of a man who has had overwhelming challenges to face after republican rule for 8 years. Not kicking Obama to the curb after 8 months. Let us know when you find the perfect person to clean this all up with a wave of their hand.”
susanlno replied on Aug 24, 2009 at 10:59:45
“The mere fact that it could be worse, even a lot worse, doesn't mean that criticism of Obama is never valid. Nobody is expecting him to be perfect, but many of us out here think he could be doing better.”
