Lieberman: Obama Never Pressed Me On Public Option

“So the president is just a liar now. I guess it's fine to be strident when one is filled with perfection. I have chosen to work with what is...not what I wish it to be. Otherwise, I would get nothing done at all.”

“Because he has been so reliable in the past. Why does our president not get the benefit of the doubt? Because he's made some choices we don't like? Lieberman does that for sport. But hey, turning on the president will really help us with other big issues coming down the pike....an d we all know that the other democrats who ran for president would have been completely honest about everything ...say...J ohn Edwards for example?”
huffponewbie replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 22:22:06
“Not because he has made some choices that I don't, but because I cannot think of a major choice he has made that I do like. How much would it have helped the country to have those that voted for W. turn on him. I have not and will not put faith in any Pres. What bigger issues are coming down the pike? We've been had on health care, Gitmo, Iraq, and climate-change. For cryin' out loud he sold us out on climate-change. Is there a bigger issue? I am not going to say that I would rather have McCain in office, but this is not what I thought I was voting for.”

Henk replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 21:57:49
“Maybe he's not telling the truth, but what evidence do you have that Obama WAS out there twisting arms for the public option? His greatest strength is his ability to deliver a speech. HIs greatest source of power is the bully pulpit. How many times did he use these things to push for the public option? His last speech on heath care in general was in Sept. Did he even mention a public option? As I said Joe is a liar, I have no doubt, but there isn't much evidence that Obama fought for the public option.”
huffponewbie replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 21:51:25
“Granted the source is suspect, however I have seen nothing from the Pres. that tells me that he is more interested in fighting for those that fought for him than he is in placating the Repubs. So, in this instance I'll believe Joe.”

“Thanks for choosing the "opt out" approach. We work hard to replace them....bu t you know that, and that's why you are blasting me. Stop stirring the pot...sorr y, you can't. The industry has the dollars and resources to flood sites and the so called "media."”
anjouwu replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 15:05:08
“Actually I don't work for the "media" machine. I'm just another ordinary discouraged American. I'm not sure who the "we" are in your sentence "we work hard to replace them" - democrats? progressives? The system is simply broken. You can work your tail off to try and replace the elite, but when even relatively simple campaigns cost tens of millions of dollars who will you get? Just another group of America's elite. Good luck.”
Feingold: Obama Responsible For Loss Of Public Option
Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 19:14:19 in Politics
“Excuse me Russ...you had the opportunity to run for president and YOU opted out. Look to your peers in the senate. You were more of a "moderate" until the Iraq war, so check your own history... remember McCain-Feingold? One of your best buds is John McCain. Don't blame the prez because he used what he had in real time to start the process. You know what is sorely missing in this discussion? The fact that republicans have systematically dismantled education that would provide children, teens and young adults the ability to understand civics and government. You think that was a coincidence? Think again. Those lessons have been replaced by organized right wing religious fever.
It's great to sit on the sidelines and preach about peace, war, healthcare and involvement by this president. I think Rahm should be gone and some other house cleaning issues solved, but this circular firing squad we insist on conducting, is ridiculous. Ask yourself.. .are there any people "planted" to stir this up in our progressive base? Just sayin'....”
