Obama: Health Care Bill Moves Us 'Toward The End Of A Nearly Century-Long Struggle'
Commented Dec 25, 2009 at 00:45:02 in Politics
“Please note:
All Life and Health insurance companies employ "death panels" .
In the case of Health Insurance Companies, these folks determine the level of care which they will provide and to whom they will provide it. Insurance companies are not in the business of needlessly spending money and will avoid any expense which they can. This is the "rationed care" that you hear so much about. It happens every day. It's not something which will magically appear if health care reform takes place.
By the way, they don't refer to the people making these decisions as a "death Panel", they refer to them by their real title. These folks are known as Actuaries. All insurance companies employ Actuaries, their job is to access risk and avoid it wherever possible. This has been the case for hundreds of years, we're only hearing so much about it now because of the tragically large number of morons on the other side of the isle.”

“Thanks for that explanation!
Nonetheless, I am somewhat concerned. Because if I've read the ny times article correctly, it sounds as if there will be encouragement to reduce aggressive and expensive care for the elderly. This in part based on the flawed Dartmouth study, whose sample did not include patients who survived and thrived.
It sounded as if new stringent guidelines would mainly apply to elderly patients. To me, this smacks of the worst ageism. I remember how Dr. DeBakey, the famed heart surgeon, had major heart surgery himself at a very late age, and lived for many many more productive years. So, too, do many other elderly patients who have aggressive treatment.”

Madoff Not Beaten Up In Prison, Hospitalized For Dizziness, High Blood Pressure

“Peace on Earth; good will to Men.
But after this week,
Inconsistent; perhaps.
Ashamed ?
Nah, not so's you would notice.
While I probably wouldn't beat the Madoff types myself ; neither would I get in the way of someone with less scruples.
Nor would I be all that upset if some members of Bush & Co (or some AIG/Goldman honcho) were to be convicted of some traitorous act and slipped in the shower.
Foreign nationals harming Americans is one thing.
Americans intentionally harming their countrymen (as in the above examples)?
Inexcusable.”

“Can't understand what all the rush is about. Pass the Public Option in reconciliation, then pass the other reforms in the traditional way.
Why is this so hard to figure out? This is pretty basic. All of Bush's tax cuts were passed this way.”

MoveOn.Org Comes Out Against Senate Health Care Billl
Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 10:38:58 in Politics
“Any bill containing mandated enrollment without containing a Public Option or the opening of Medicare to everyone is a non-starter.
MoveOn should begin a campaign of civil disobedience. Tens of thousands of American Citizens refusing to purchase mandated coverage would be very hard to jail. If we don't have room for former Bush Administration crooks, we certainly can't find room for thousands who refuse to be ripped off by this monstrocity.
I say drop this turkey , elect a slate of pro- single payer congressmen and come back and pass single payer insurance either in the form of opening Medicare, or some other form such as Canada's system.”

“Ratings companies remind me of outfits like Flier and Upper Deck who print their cards and then set prices on how much they are "worth".
This is a big deal if Barney can pull it off.
Now, let's go after some of these banks. They desperately need to be broken up.”

“The ratings agencies are so government regulated that they are de facto government agencies. There is no competition allowed either.
So you get what you deserve, no free market, no accountability. Socialists will never learn though, they just mouth cliches based on superficial observations. If you are serious about this read the history of rating agencies.
One of the reasons the ratings were skewed was because of the implicit backing of Fannie/Freddie loans. I don't expect any statists to understand that thought, it is more popular just to yell at free enterprise.”

It's time to start behaving like we have a majority, or something. Maybe the vote to end debate on the Judge is the beginning of a rudimentary Back Bone among Liberal Legislators.
Now, let's move on to health care reform and see if they can remember how they did it.”
