NFL Proposal Piques Fans' Interest
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 22:52:13 in Los Angeles
“This area has some of the worst traffic and accidents in L. A. County over 14 lanes of two merging freeways!! Since this needed no EIR, thanks to the Governator, it will take days to get in and out of this stadium and the retail shopping center planned. Many, many residents of the area won't be able to get home due to the traffic jams. There is plenty of evidence when Honda Center and Anaheim Stadium both have events within several hours of each other. I live in the area of this new stadium and if traffic is a nightmare now - what will it be with an additional 76,000+ cars trying to access this installation!!!!”

Obama Schoolchildren Speech Drives Right-Wingers Batty

“These ignorant jerks are only proving that the program of "dumbing down America" has succeeded! The GOP seems now composed mostly of right wing religious nuts that are only embarrassing to the United States of America. The highly educated, half-black president who won the hearts and minds of a majority of Americans because he wanted to improve the lives of ordinary, middle class Americans, is a source of some kind of perverse jealously among these wacko folks. Luckily, he is smart enough to know the IQ of this vocal minority and will press on with his goals to improve the lives of working class Americans instead of helping to elevate and enrich the already rich. At the bottom of their motives is the same old prejudice called racism. I hope he stays his course and can bring the change that so many ordinary Americans have wanted - a truly compassionate society - he will need the Dems to do it - hopefully, there are enough of good will and intelligence to avoid the lobbyists and do the right thing! Addressing our children to stay in school and put their education first, can only offend the stupid and the ignorant! We ignore education at the peril of working for the Chinese for the rest of our lives!! We can't have an educated population when hearing an address from our President is looked upon as sinister by any segment of it. Canada looks better all the time!”

Chicks Being Ground Up Alive Video
Commented Sep 03, 2009 at 14:45:14 in Green
“This video made me as sick as it was intended to - I do love eggs but see no reason these chicks have to be slaughtered. What would the poor people in Africa do with such chicks? Raise them and then eat them when they are old enough? I would think that a better solution but expensive to transport. My issue is, if they are farming eggs, why the chicks? Eggs are harvested before the chicks mature to this stage. I get more disgusted with man's cruelty to animals and the planet every day. See the pictures of the dolphins and whales being slaughtered in Japan ("The Cove" documentary) and Denmark (circulating on the Net) with the bays and coves totally red with blood. Chicks aren't as smart as the dolphins but most men don't care about animals and continue to slaughter them to extinction taking it to a "sporting" level as they beat baby seals to death and hack the dolphins to death - the almighty dollar - sickening. Becoming a vegan won't change this! Thanks for posting the video, Huffington Post! We need to protest this type of farming.”

Charlie Gibson's Announcement E-Mail: "I Love This News Department...To The Depths Of My Soul"
Commented Sep 02, 2009 at 23:42:18 in Media
“I'm 68 years old and have admired the field reporting of Charlie for many years long before he anchored the evening news. It seems that everyone is judging him on the Obama debate questions alone which, I admit, I did not admire. He handled himself very well for years on GMA and has always been professional, intelligent and displayed a very warm personality. I, for one, will miss him even if I do watch MSNBC and CNN more often than ABC news. If I do watch a network news show, it is ABC. As for Diane, I like her best on GMA as find her delivery of the news too dramatic for my taste. I'll probably continue my current viewing pattern and may catch Brian Williams from time to time. At least the networks seem to reward longevity. Have a wonderful retirement, Charlie, you have had a distinguished career as a journalist and anchor, and can come back from time to time to keep us informed of what is going on in the world. Best of luck from a fan!”

Senate Beats Back Military-Industrial Complex In Historic Vote
Commented Jul 22, 2009 at 00:39:38 in Politics
“Eisenhower was 100% right and his wisdom has been proven in all the "wars" we have had since. The war toy companies have owned Congress for a very long time. This may just be the start of balancing our military spending budget in a much more constructive manner. I certainly agree that we have gotten ourselves into two unwarranted wars, plus Vietnam and our volunteer service people have been let down in the ordinary necessities like body armor, etc. as another poster has mentioned. They have some F-22's in production and now we have retired the stealth planes - at a cost of billions. I recall that those planes were vital to our defense too - how long were they in the air?
Don't tell me we can't afford universal healthcare! The people of this country deserve a universal health care program after the many years of tax money going to the military industrial complex, wars that were expensive and of little value to our national interests. The insurance industry is just like the MIC - DON'T HAVE ANY COMPETITION! It is worth $1.4 Million per day in lobbying Congress - they aren't doing that "for the people"!!! Let's do just one thing for Americans this year - reform healthcare and give the people the same coverage that Congress has! People will still be able to choose their insurance companies. The major companies moved manufacturing out of this country already.”

Isn't the world and our problems big enough for Obama, Biden and Clinton to work on?? We need all their expertise to gain the respect of the other countries of the world - after it has been trashed for the past 8 years and the 4 years of Bush Sr.. Obama Administration Approves First Roadless Logging Contract In Alaska's Tongass National Forest
Commented Jul 16, 2009 at 22:23:50 in Green
“I also agree with your comment! As a former Oregonian and current Californian, all you need to do is to fly over the logged areas and see the clear cuts made in the middle of forests with uncut fringes along the roads to fool the population of what the logging companies have done. The trees they plant will take too many years to regrow the forests. This is the first decision by the administration that I am in total disagreement with. These rain forests of old growth need to be protected along with those in the Olympic rain forest in Washington and the red woods in California, etc. It is the ultimate waste to ship our timber to Asia only to be returned as trinkets in WalMart. Isn't it cheaper now to use the synthetic wood for building purposes? I have shutters from this kind of wood and real wood - you can't tell them apart except maybe the synthetic wood is better looking and certainly lasts longer with a surface easily cleaned. Think about this again President Obama!”

Judge Sotomayor's Suits: Which Did She Wear Best? (PHOTOS, POLL)
Commented Jul 16, 2009 at 22:09:56 in Style
“This subject doesn't do her justice - pardon the pun - but the suits are appropriate for any woman in business, particularly for a woman in the legal field. Personally, I like her and her answers to the questions posed - further, I like her best in red - compliments her coloring. Her face seems swollen which could result from her medical condition or perhaps too much salt, not enough water flushing her system during the hearings. Regardless, she is qualified and I hope she is confirmed. She will look just fine in black robe.”

Conrad Moves Closer To Public Health Care After Negotiations
Commented Jun 22, 2009 at 20:18:03 in Politics
“If this were healthcare for Congress - would we even be talking about this issue???
I thought they might want the American people to have at least as good a healthcare plan as the members of Congress have - oh no! Guess they don't!!! They are still in the elite healthcare plan that we all pay for.
I would be happy to pay more taxes for something I benefit from (I don't count our wars in that category) including universal healthcare. Medicare is surely better than no plan at all!! Sure it can be improved but if we were are under a universal healthcare plan - plus the insurance plans that people want to choose to keep - the incentive to make improvements and cut costs would work. As long as the insurance companies can make money from denying care, there is no hope for the containment of costs nor of improvement of healthcare for the uninsured. I've talked to many from other countries that love their government health care. Michael Moore spotlighted the problem quite well in "Sicko".
WE NEED THE HEALTHCARE SAFETY NET AND WE NEED IT NOW! If Congress doesn't believe people want it or are unwilling to pay for it, have the people vote on it in a special election.
The biggest problem is cutting out the illegal aliens from the plan. In Los Angeles, 13 emergency rooms have been closed due to this problem, which, in California is huge!”

Commented May 19, 2009 at 18:38:43 in Style
“The performing arts of ballet and opera have been my passion since I was 4 years old and I know how important the arts are to a person who is exposed to them. I recently saw "Small Wonders", the Oscar nominated documentary of the East Harlem teacher who fought so hard to bring a violin program to the schools and how important it was in enriching the lives of her students. This was the inspiration of the Oscar nominated "Music from the Heart" 4 years later.
Not all children can perform in sports; and music, art, dance, and drama can give these children discipline and immense satisfaction of achievement. If exposed to the arts, children usually embrace them as quickly as they do a puppy.
I'm so glad we finally have a couple in the white house that appreciate and support the arts again. Thanks to Michelle and the President for their participation and support. I'm sure their girls will also benefit from their appreciation - - as will, hopefully, other children from the National Endowment of the Arts - - an important part of education for all our children who have been denied it for so many years in our public schools. Beauty is a civilizing force for those who learn to see and appreciate it.”

“This is one of the most important tax reforms Obama can possibly attain during his first term! Want to know how to pay for universal health care? These firms using their tax doges could pay for it just by paying their fair share of US taxes! This is tax evasion, plain and simple - it was just written into the tax code by politicians. The companies shifting their business and labor offshore are a big component of what is wrong with our economy now. I'm tired of talking to Indians every time I need to talk to customer service for a start. Almost 19,000 companies are using the same building in the Caymens as their "HQ". I hope everyone emails their representatives and senators as well as Obama and encourages reformation of this terrible problem. It needs correction or erosion of the American economy will continue until we are too a third world country.”
