Harry Reid Should be Asked: WWLBJD With Lieberman?
Commented Dec 19, 2009 at 19:21:14 in Politics
“you're ever-so-ri ght....LBJ would have creamed Lieberman. ....but, first, of course, after Lieberman's losing the Democratic primary, then running as an independent and winning (with many, many republican votes); LBJ would have never allowed him in the Democratic caucus.... ..only two Senators opposed the infamous Tonkin Resolution (Gruener of Alaska and Morse of Oregon) and the LBJ machine ground them both out of politics in their next re-election campaigns. ...It's hard to believe anyone (even the very wimpy Harry Reid) would allow Joe the Weasel to control the fate of a bill as important as health care reform.... .and, of course, the bill has now lost those very elements which would have made it so valuable to tens of millions of Americans. ......a pox on Lieberman and those who enabled him to destroy one of the most needed planks of the progressive movement.. ..”

Sheriff Arpaio Indicts Political Opponents While Feds Investigate Arpaio

“joe arpaio has been the darling of the right-wing "land & order" crowd for years..... ...pink underwear, miminal food, wretched living conditions. abusive treatment, etc and joe's fans love it all. The county has paid millions in settlements to prisoners and families of prisoners, yet Joe is still their hero. We are all frustrated by the high crime rates, high recidivism rates and huge costs associated with "public safety" (whatever that is).....ye t there is nothing to suggest that we can "jail" ourselves out of this mess..the "lock 'um up & then abuse them" approach simply has not worked; not in Miracopa County or anywhere else...... ..we need a national dialogue over public safety and some creative, sensible new ideas to address the problem... ....someho w, I don't think pink underwear is the answer...s orry, Joe”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio claims recidivism in the jails was reduced during his time as sheriff.
Truth: Sheriff Joe Arpaio spent $10,000 in taxpayer money to have Arizona State University study recidivism in the jail system. The result showed that there was no change in the rate at which inmates returned to jail. Sheriff Joe Arpaio immediately declared that ASU was wrong.”

Arianna On Leno: Memo To Men: Don't Have Affairs With Your Employees Unless You're Letterman
Commented Oct 03, 2009 at 12:46:37 in Media
“If you've seen Letterman's "mea culpa" tape.....a ctually a very self-serving attempt to get out in front of the breaking scandal... you know he had a history of sexual involvement with women who worked for him. Virtually every public agency and most businesses have explicit policies prohibiting such involvement. There are dozens of cliche's describing the prohibited behavior.. ."dipping the pen...etc. , etc." ...the point being DON'T DO IT!!!! Letterman's actions, like virtually every other case (including President Clinton's) involve a powerful, arrogant man overwhelming a woman who works for him...such situations are almost sexual harassment by definition.
In the public sector, the supervisor, principal, or whatever, would very likely be dismissed. ..as, in my opinion, they should be. Letterman, on the other hand, played the whole thing very successfully, with laughs from the audience and kudos for his honesty. Balderdash ....he'd never have said a word if the extortion attempt hadn't forced him to do so. If he worked for me, he'd be fired. If he worked for any school district or other public agency, he be fired. If he were a politician, he be skewered by the opposition and likely lose his next re-election bid. It will be interesting to see what happens, or more accurately, doesn't happen to good 'ol David.”

“So you are saying that only those who are "equal" in the workplace may engage in a consensual sexual relationship? Tell me, does that extend to race also?
By your logic, if white people are perceived to have an imbalance of power in society over, say, black people, then the two shouldn't be having sex because clearly the white person is engaging in sexual harrassment by "overpowering" their underprivileged partner.
Hell, by your logic men and women shouldn't even engage in consensual relationships because of the perceived difference in power between the two genders.”

She had a very limited quality of life, but her folks cared for her with an unimaginable love. So yes, we can all relate some real "tear-jerker" stories and we can hope, pray or whatever for a miracle. However, while we're doing it, how about a little compassion for the nearly 50 million americans who have no health insurance and are literally "out of luck" in obtaining health care.
It sickens me (fortunately I have medicare) that wealthy folks like Beck and Limbaugh and well--covered forks like GOP Senators and Representatives can work to deny health care to those 50 million americans. Their position is really very simple: "I've got mine, screw you."”

I think the poor woman got thrown into the fray in '08 for selfish reasons (on the part of the right wing of the GOP who thought McCain "too liberal") and began to believe she really IS presidential timber -- not merely another cynical place holder like Dan Quayle or Spiro Agnew. Yes she draws crowds as any train wreck does, and certainly there's that hard core 23% (of whatever the % John Dean cites in his book) who dig her jingoism and xenophobia. Whatever this was about (resigning as governor) I can believe it was either damage control (and thus we await the second snow shoe to drop), OR some misguided belief she is now unshackeled to assault the country, Limbaugh-style, warning of Obama's naivite and his lurking terrorist "pals". Either way, I think she devolves into a minor player on the landscape -- as would be fitting; we at long last, and by some miracle, got past Bush, deLay, Santorum and most of the rest - and "grew up" to be the country we are supposed to be, i.e., led by a statesman (or at least a politican with some intelligence, and yes, nuance and empathy), and not some tough talkers demagoguing assort fears.”
