“One has to say that Sister Sarah is moving UP in the media world. She started at the bottom, FAUX NEWS, then on to TLC, now Sportsman, only a bit more and she'll achieve her zenith: The Cartoon Network.

“She, Nugent and Harvey could do another remake of the 3 Stooges.”
“You are correct "The Bush administration HAD a robust economy" in early 2001, before he stumbled off into 2 wars and cut taxes to pay (sic) for them. And you're only partly correct about the loans. The Demos DID want anybody who could sign a "X" to get a loan while the Bush administration and their wealthy bank buddies were only too happy to oblige knowing the government would bail them out - even if it wouldn't the hapless homeowners..”
“Restaurants, where tipping is expected, do. They also pay half or less the minimum hourly wage. But you've hit upon a good point. If we start tipping fast food servers, chains like McDonalds will adjust their hourly rates accordingly and make even more to their bottom line while the workers remain poor.”
“People believe MORE of what they witness on TV than in any other media. Not even the printed word - though those reading it are greatly depreciated - is as influencing as watching someone look you in the eye and tell you something. Whether it's Obama's a Muslim Communist or cutting taxes for the very wealthy will help the economy.
Both networks play to an audience, but you cannot "enjoy" either by not watching BOTH. To the article we're discussing, were I not someone who watches O'Reilly and understands the kind of person he is, I would not be able to recognize the pertinence of the author's thoughts.
While corporate greed DOES play a role, I can tell you in certain cases - like that of Olbermann's departure - ratings (money) are sacrificed.”
“I love Senator Warren and plan to vote for her to be our next President in 2016”

“She won't run, and right now I'd prefer she remain in Congress because I think she'll have more sway there. Give her a couple more terms, then when this country starts regaining its senses, it'll be ripe for her presidency.”
“I think a better analogy of FAUX NEWS to MSNBC might be the concern and critiquing parents might have towards their children's 4th grade teacher who explains fallacy and falsehoods as truth.”
Tom Sutpen on Dec 4, 2013 at 19:25:26
“But that's not what's happening. If it's anything, it's a matter of the teacher not devoting the largest measure of class time to correcting fallacies the children already believe.
It's absolutely the case, I'm sure, that Fox News Channel does everything in its power to avoid challenging or contradicting the beliefs/fears/prejudices of its core audience.
It is also the case that this is how all commercial television news not only operates, but is forced, through sheer survival instinct, to operate. Without exception, they make it their business to tell the viewers what the viewers want to hear (why else would they spend millions on Audience Research?); and not because of some shadowy ideological agenda . . . not when these networks share the same core ideology (the rare magnificence of the United States, and the unending glory that is Capitalism). The agenda is no more (or less) sinister than holding an audience through the commercial breaks and, ultimately, maximizing profit for the parent corporation.
And the fact that the majority of posters here would see that agenda as somehow more benign than supporting the fortunes of one political party or another only underscores how severe the problem truly is. ”
“If The Duff is worrying so much about his football team, he's not concentrating on golf so he'll miss the cut and have plenty of time to watch the game this weekend.”
UnkBob on Dec 3, 2013 at 19:15:59
“You of course are kidding that this is even a topic. You of course are kidding that watching a football game would illicit such distress. You of course are kidding that this means anything. So I guess I'm typing here lecturing yewawll. Because you of course think this is important.”
“Florida also lost to a D2 school for the first time in 70 years the week before - people worrying about strength of schedule tend forget those tidbits. I guarantee you Florida St has played NO ONE this year as tough as Michigan St is right now - no one. In my opinion the issue is NOT whether or not an SEC school is in the championship game - the winner of Missouri vs Auburn SHOULD go. It's the fact that an undefeated Florida St from an inferior league would get the nod over an undefeated Big 10 school.”
“There were so many easy ways to have prevented this. A an engine governor to keep speed at or below a certain level, a siren when speed exceeds a safe rate, a "dead man" switch for use at certain dangerous areas, etc.”
“You mean like a 4-7 washed-up Florida!? Or that bastion of college football, DUKE?! If strength of schedule, particularly at the season's end, were a criteria for making the BCS championship, the Seminoles wouldn't get near the stadium.”
rucass on Dec 3, 2013 at 16:31:09
“yes, like Florida. 5 of their seven losses were against top tier teams(SEC). At least they play a real schedule. Put ohio against any of these teams and their record would be vastly different. I get great joy from the gators losing, but respect the schedule they play. Ohio St. is a pretender....”
