“Moir ended up saying response was 'orchestrated'. It wasn't, it was viral and my take is that it was when advertisers starting pulling out from that page that made them make an unprecedented defence.

That advertiser response was probably helped by negative Mail reader response but more likely, i think, because on Twitter and Facebook people were being directed at them so they would themselves have been receiving complaints.

What this was not about was Daily Mail vs The Guardian. A few minutes Googling shows anti-Moir articles in Telegraph, Times etc.

It also wasn't happening just because Stephen Fry tweeted. This idea that nothing happens unless a celebrity is involved is ridiculous. I was watching the Twitter stream and very few tweets were Fry retweets. Media reports have played up Fry's so-called power but this isn't born out by what actually happened with #janmoir.”
