“Let's see. Arabs and Jews in the Middle East. Hindus and Moslems in South Asia. Catholics and Protestants in N. Ireland. Sunnis and Shites in Iraq. Christians and Moslems in the Baltics.

Just to name a few.”

“not a bad list, but if you stop and think about it - the middle east, bosnia and india - those conflicts are as much the result of the vacum left when the brittish empire and the soviet empires collapsed and as far as n. ireland, that's true.
but (again) these pale in comparision with the attrocities comitted by twentieth century, atheist regimes.”

“Let's get something straight. Health care reform is not about how healthcare is provided it is about how it is paid for. Doctor's, Hospitals and Nurses that are not employed by the government will still not be employed by the government.

The change is the organizations they work for will be reimbursed by the government for those that do not have private insurance. And this reimbursement will be without any restrictions on pre-existing conditions and without regard to the profitability motive.”

Newsmonger replied on Dec 23, 2009 at 13:12:45

“It is also about how the Health Care is provided....

e.g. no denial of care based on pre-existing condition, no lifetime care limit, etc...”

The Dems would love nothing more than to completely nationalize the healthcare industry and as a result doctors, hospitals, and nurses would all become UNIONIZED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES.”

“The government did not bail any of those aforementioned individuals out. Moore, Gates, and Hollywood do not get direct federal money and the politicians you mentioned collected a salary as President and Senators.

A windfall tax is not a tax on hard earned income it is a tax on windfall income. If you want a 50% tax on lottery earnings over 1 million I would agree that is a windfall. Or a tax on profits from a 700 billion government bailout which is certainly a windfall.”

“As we are in the Holiday season we must all recollect the movie "It's a wonderful life". Jimmy Stewart the hero works for the savings and loan. All the people are saved and supported by the kind hearted Stewart who helps people in their darkest hours.

Skip forward 50 years and I wonder how that role would be portrayed today. Now it is the banks that are creating the darkest hours and the Stewarts of the world have been replaced by the people who run Goldman and AIG and people like Madoff.”

“I find it interesting that after all this debate, no matter what bill and amendments come up for a vote no minds will really be changed. They could approve every Republican amendment and the Republicans will still vote no on the final bill. They do not want to give Obama and the Democrats any opportunity to claim victory even with a watered down useless bill.

The progressive Democrats should know this and realize that if they do not want to look like total incompetents they will have to stick to their principals and push it through via reconciliation which only requires 50 votes. 50 they have 60 they do not thanks to the Blue Dogs who when it comes to standing up to the insurance industry are more yellow then blue.”

Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 20:11:44 in Politics

“If the Republicans are all concerned about protecting life they should also introduce an amendment that every fetus that is not aborted will be entitled to receive all prenatal care as well as healthcare coverage until age 18. This should be 100% free and paid for by public or private insurance, no questions, no exclusions. After all how good is life when you don't have health?

In reality the fact that republicans support war, the death penalty and totally unrestricted access to firearms indicates that they are pro-fetus and anti-woman and anti-healthcare and pro-life has nothing to do with it.”

ZoeyMO replied on Dec 08, 2009 at 21:20:39

“Now THAT'S the logical extension of their arguments. It astounds me that so few people seem to understand that abortions SAVE a health plan a great deal of money. Abortions are much cheaper than prenatal/maternity care and don't even get me started on the health costs of even a healthy child! Of course, unwanted children don't tend to be among the healthiest so that adds an additional cost.”

“Electronic copies of documents are all that many governments have now. They have either microfilmed or scanned millions of documents. When I applied for a passport I need a birth certificate from the city of New York. I got a reproduction that the state stamped with a seal. It was not the original. I am old enough so that the original paper has probably long since decayed. This was sufficient for me to get a passport.

This is the same type of document Obama has produced and that should be sufficient. Now if we just had proof the Sarah was born on this planet.

“I only found my original birth certificate in my parent's personal papers, after they died a month apart in 1994. There's nothing creepier, than going though your parent's stuff. I can think of many reasons why a person would not have a original birth certificate, since it's something that would being to your parents.

The birther and tea bagger thing isn't about grass roots movement, it's more about trying to marginalize a president, who is hard to attack on a personal level. The right wing through mud at Clinton for 8 years in the hopes to pave the way for the 2000 campaign. This is all a political party that marginalized it's self can do, Clinton keeps on rising from the dead. The Constitutional legality of impeaching a popular president with high approval ratings, for personal issues, was highly suspect, so that why the GOP used the lying under oath. At the end of the day the Clinton impeachment blow up in there face and they lost seats in 2000. The GOP want's Obama to fail period, by any means possible, the only problem is if our president fails, we fail, if he succeeds the GOP will marginalized for a very long time, this is why they never got over FDR.”

“15 years ago my business began doing business with a medium size NJ bank, They were bought by a bigger bank, which was bought by an even bigger bank which was bought by Bank of America.

Now, thanks to the recession and a 30% reduction of sales, this bank, which has received billions in government bailouts with the intent to ease credit is actually tightening our credit and squeezing us with higher asset requirements and higher interest rates. This despite the fact that we have never missed a single loan payment.

Since we have shown a loss for the last year due to the recession it is almost impossible to now go to another bank and try to get a new credit line or capital financing.

To me this treatment is outrageous and if anyone thinks this bailout has helped main street or small business in general they are seriously mistaken.”

Now you may argue that driving is optional but for many people that do not have access to public transportation it is a necessity. So if they can do it with auto insurance I am not sure how it would be unconstitutional to do it for health insurance.”

“My insurance company just hit my business with a $75,000 dollar tax in the form of a premium increase. This while increasing deductibles and copays.

Why is that better then being hit by a government tax? If the government does not do a better job, considering they are not required to make a profit, then I can continue my private plan with one of the two private companies I can chose from. I would like the option to make a choice. By the way, the CEO of the US government makes I believe about $400K. The CEO of AETNA makes about $20 Million. If there is a public option no Republican will vote for it and if there is no public option the most Republicans you can possibly get is 2 or 3 and you will lose several democrats.

The dems are going to have to go this alone if they want a bill with or without the public option. Bipartisanship left Washington a long time ago when the republicans unilaterally decided to impeach Clinton and Newt's Contract with America.”
