Besides, if the Times Magazine wants Silverstein that bad it might be willing to buy out his contract. By suing Texas Monthly might be putting itself in a win-win position. I do not see anything wrong with this strategy.”

No civil complaint can be taken against her as the contract violation is more than 3 years old, but they can still claim it is theft. SHiouldn't this have been a matter for civil court not criminal? Using the criminal justice system to enforce civil contracts and debt collection sure smacks of the old debtor's prison thing. What's next indentured servants?”

Feds Move To Fix Pot Shops' Banking Problems

“The new Treasury Dept. guidelines and DOJ memo will not ease bankers’ concerns about servicing legal marijuana businesses. The new guidelines and memo are poorly drawn and do not resolve conflicts with existing laws. Regardless of the Obama administration’s support for states that have legalized the drug, marijuana is still, under most circumstances, illegal under federal law. What the banks are demanding is that the applicable federal laws be specifically amended to permit them to legally service these emerging industries. The proposed solution seems to be another example of the Obama administration’s belief that politics trumps the law. This president has no political capital to expend on trying to convince Congress or the American public that legalizing marijuana is in the country’s national interest. The new guidelines and memo are nothing more than a political slight-of-hand.”

“Ryan’s explanation and arguments are compelling, even though they miss the point. In general one would be compelled to agree with her. Yet, the “people” that she refers to need not know every (or many) details about a covert governmental operation. National security interests require that some information not be made public. Besides this American has openly joined forces with al-Qaeda. Sources believe that he is instrumental in plotting attacks against American oversea interests. In my opinion his being American is of no consequence. Perhaps Ryan’s real motive for leaking the location of the strike has more to do with increasing readership than ideologies. It seems to me that Obama’s stricter guidelines on the use of drones over Pakistan has tied his hands in this matter. In January there were no reported US drone strikes in Pakistan.”

“From reading this post it is not clear what in general are people complaining about the Instagram pictures. Are most of the offensive comments directed toward the couple being Black or the fact that they are Gay men taking care of kids? Maybe it is a combination of the two attributes. Regardless, maybe Kordale and Kaleb should have more fully considered involving their children in their social media escapades. I wonder if the kids are aware of all the discussion surrounding the postings and how are they reacting to the controversy.”

“It's a challenge to all kinds of stereotypes and probably the most threatening thing of all is that they look a lot happier and more well adjusted than the families of those who are criticizing them.

The people obsessing over this are unhappy in their own lives might have passed over this in silence if the family looked unhappy and impoverished but the idea that this family might be better than them gets them in a panic.”

“These are the same types who are quick to call black fathers "absent deadbeats" in one breath, and criticize Gays for being promiscuous in the next, but when Faced with a committed black, gay couple who embrace fatherhood, they seem equally angered, if not more.

Perhaps they are angry at the loss of their chosen stereotype? It's hard to continue blind hatred of a culture once they are humanized in your eyes, and lose their "Otherness".

These are the people you know and like, who've adapted to P.C. culture..

Trust me, when you leave the room they assume That because I'm white and hetero, I'm in their "Club" and these seemingly civilized people turn back into their inner, internet troll. I've made quite a few enemies by being outspoken in my disgust.”

Homeless Trans Woman Andrea Quintero's Funeral Held By Jesuits at 'Church Of Francis' In Rome

Commented Dec 30, 2013 at 12:11:13 in Religion

“Quintero was a Colombian transgendered. This fact cannot be disputed but it might not have been the primary motivating factor that pushed the Jesuits to organize the funeral. I think the religious order was moved to action based upon a general belief in aiding the poor, the homeless and those who deserve the compassion of the church. I do not believe that the Jesuits intended to make a political statement on LGBT rights. Many of the posted comments attempt to attach a more profound political significance to the Jesuits’ act of generosity than is warranted. It is possible that there has been no arrests because there are no suspects to detain and question.”

Nat Tuck on Dec 30, 2013 at 13:58:47

“Perhaps. As a former cradle Catholic who went all the way through Confirmation, I can tell you that one of the primary schisms existing in the church body lies between Jesuits and your more traditional types. Some Jesuits maintain more traditional beliefs but there are no shortage of blogs that ponder if the Church should simply excommunicate and declare Jesuits anathema too. Who can know for sure, I suppose? Makes for an interesting story.”

Thankfully, common sense accompanied compassion here. I wonder if those who were trying to do the right thing had any awareness at the moment they were making practical decisions that Andrea's life, death, and burial would be the topic of discourse in international press?”

Rabbi Mordechai Rosenberg's Circumcision Failure Leads To Lawsuit: Botched Bris Caused 'Catastrophic' Injuruy

Commented Dec 30, 2013 at 11:52:39 in Religion

“The case presents another vivid example of the constitutional struggle between the state and a religious institution. The parents knew the Rabbi was not a medical doctor. He is religious official who performs circumcisions as a religious procedure or rite. The Rabbi cannot be judge in comparison to a medical doctor who performs the same procedures. Maybe the Rabbi had the good sense to have the parents sign a waiver of their rights prior to undertaking the procedure. For many reasons this is a case worth following.”

“There seems to be some question as to the photograph being authentic. I have taken a good look at the picture. Doesn’t it seem like the shark is swimming parallel to the shore, perfectly located in a wave? Something is strange about this picture. I just cannot put my finger on it.”

Chef Geo on Dec 30, 2013 at 12:59:56

“Sharks often swim parallel to shore in waves looking for meals of opportunity struggling in the wave breaks. Several surfers have been attacked on their boards close to shore in these circumstances. This happens (sharks in the surf, not attacks) on a daily basis though the normal inshore species run smaller and are not interested in larger prey.”
