“The idea of a god is a hoax. The idea of the rapture, heaven, these things are hoaxes. They also have made a lot of people a lot of money and kept a lot of folks ignorant and poor. The evidence for global warming is overwhelming--there's good science and not science. You've been reading too much not science. Ihnofe believes that the Bible is literal truth but that all the science behind global warming is a hoax. And you agree. Proving that there will always be people who'll believe anytthing--hell 30% of Americans believe the sun goes round the Earth. Are you one of those folks?”

Poll: Republicans Prefer Ideological Purity Over Electoral Success

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 19:07:04 in Politics

“I respect the Republicans' commitment to holding to their values and beliefs even though I think their values and beliefs are entirely wrong on almost every score. If the Democrats were a lot more fierce in holding to their professed values (the ones they tout when they come asking me for money) I would have a lot more respect for them as well. So at this point I am thinking the political system is utterly broken and the country will see itself sinking into a second rate power with an increasingly ignorant, fearful and dangerous populous. Pretty cynical, ain't I?”

HHarvey replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 22:26:30

“I already think we are a second rate power, but I'd much rather live with a bunch of democrats with ideology that runs the gambit than a republican with a robot mentality. You could look at their ideology another way too and that is "those who are easily led" and that is a scary bunch of people. Remember Germany and WW1 and WW2?”

“The right who oppose putting these folks in prison in the US really make a case for viewing America as a over militarized, nuclear weighted, coward that lives in fear 24/7. I grew up in an America ready to give up its precious liberties because of the "Red Menace" and now we act like frightened cowards and bullies because of "the treat of international terrorism." There's a lot of money and political power to be made keeping Americans scared to death.”

“Dobbs had many cogent and intelligent things to say. The trouble is he also had several inflammatory bees in his bonnet that allowed him to be a lightening rod for a lot of fearful ignorant Americans who followed him in looking in the wrong places for what was doing harm to the American Way of Life many of us used to enjoy. The problem is not the people who were not enjoying that way of life but the greedy folks who have take way more than a fair share of the pie.”

“And I have news for the Democrats, if this old guy doesn't see some progressive changes he isn't going to give money, work for Democrats or even vote for any of them in the next election. I delivered with millions of others to put the Democrats in a position to really make some changes. It turns out the changes I believed in aren't going to happen with this bunch in office. And so lots of folks stayed home and the Repos won. And that's going to happen again because folks like me, young and old, figure we were hyped.”

rzan1 replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 18:50:16

“Continue sitting in that armchair waiting for a miracle to happen, and you will end up with something much worse than we have now. We have a President who said Yes we can, but the "we" thought it was just him who would be doing all the work. Get involved, and maybe something truly will change.”

LiberalFromDenver replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 18:36:55

“Wow. So you wanted an instant wand-waving miracle of change? Who's being unrealistic, then? This tired notion that Obama has been a failure and will be a failure is pretty depressing. First off, democrats are not a uniform voting party. We have a lot of different people with a wide range of views and we do not vote in lock-step with each other. So even if there is a democratic majority in numbers, we rarely build forceful voting blocks. We tend to do best when we can win a few republicans to vote alongside us, but the GOP has been committed to holding their ranks in check and not contributing to the debate or the votes. Not much can be done, there. Before you get so sour on the president, have a little patience. It takes awhile to make these changes.”

goldnchyl replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 22:41:24

“extremes on either side are never good. if progressives are truly more evolved than their rightwing counterparts, shouldn't they be more capable of resisting emotional responses? Shouldn't you be more capable than those on the extreme right of containing what you feel and considering more thoughtful responses? Like the president? Those who feel that they worked so hard to elect President Obama and now because everything hasn't been fixed in a year, I feel, are short-sighted and naive if they ever thought that it could happen like that. The president hasn't changed but you sure have. What have YOU done for the country lately? Besides bi*tch

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America -- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you -- we as a people will get there."

"Smart Choices" Food Labeling Program Halts Over FDA Concern

Commented Oct 24, 2009 at 11:24:36 in Business

“Want to make smart choices--switch to a plant-based diet and don't buy things produced by the mega-corps in the food industry. They think that you are too stupid to make smart choices. Show them they are wrong. The business of America is business not our health. We have to figure this out for ourselves. Read the China Study to see what really good scientific research tells us about the relationship between what we eat and heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, hypertension, and other diet related avoidable killer diseases.”

VoteOnPaper replied on Oct 24, 2009 at 14:35:38
