Walmart To Put 1 Million-Plus People To Work On Thanksgiving

“Last year I did all my holiday shopping at local stores and stores that remained closed on Thanksgiving. It was easy to do, and I will be doing it again this year. Everyone should be able to spend Thanksgiving with their family.”

“It doesn't have to take a long time to make a decent healthy meal. My husband and I both work long hours, have to drive the kids around, help with homework etc., but we ALWAYS cook dinner. Some dinners are more elaborate than others, but we never ever resort to fast food. Haven't touched the stuff since 2007. I can always find something really good and healthy to have on the table in less than 30 minutes if need be. People just need to make this a priority, and it really is not difficult to do. I used to think I didn't have time to cook, but now I have made it a part of my routine and I have lots of tried-and-true recipes handy that I know I can make quickly when time is short.”

“It may seem like a nice comment in this case, but how does she respond when she sees a mother formula feeding? My cousin and her husband have adopted 10 special needs children and given them the most unbelievably loving home and life. If they were in the restaurant would this waitress then feel it appropriate to make comments about how she "should" be breastfeeding? Even in the case of the woman in the original story, she could have been struggling with breastfeeding and been giving formula most of the time, and then felt guilty for not being more successful at it. No one knows what it going on in people's lives. I think people should be able to do what is right for them without some random stranger injecting their own personal beliefs into it. You may feel her actions were fine, but I don't. I think it was inappropriate. And we are each entitled to our own opinion.”

“And what does she say to people whose actions she does not support? I just don't think it was necessary. People should be able to breastfeed (or not) without commentary from others.”

Saint Cynicism on Jul 19, 2013 at 20:12:16

“"And what does she say to people whose actions she does not support?"

Probably nothing.

Which is a lot better than the approach taken by some of the people in this comments section who've taken it upon themselves to besmirch the moral integrity of any woman who breast feeds in public and anyone who doesn't launch into conniptions at the sight of it.”

Lunara on Jul 19, 2013 at 19:27:33

“. . yes, in a perfect world, but until it IS, most people struggling with issues such as this, appreciate the support as did this mother. . .and she said so. .. the waitress empathized with her and performed an act of kindness meant to show her she understood what she faced by nursing her child in public. . .. . . why so defensive?  ”

“I support breastfeeding 100%, but something about that note just seems a bit preachy and annoying to me. I wouldn't really need a waitress telling me that she approves of my actions.”

Lunara on Jul 19, 2013 at 18:15:12

“How fortunate then the note was not meant for you. . .as the waitress said it was a statement of support. . . no more non less.”

dwes09 on Jul 19, 2013 at 17:48:32

“It was a reaction to recent incidents where women were asked to leave places, or told to go into the bathroom to breastfeed. I thought it was kind of sweet. In a world where people think nothing of sneering at others based on their personal morality, aprobation for something that is often criticized is nice.”
