The civillians on both sides, especially the Palestinians, have been horribly abused. Let me be clear, i dont think its Israel that has caused 100% of the pain to palistian civilians directly. The Palestinian civilians have been used as pawns and turned into targets as part of a larger assault on Israel from Hamas, Hezbollah and other powers in the region who do not wish to see a Jewish state.
I also think that turning the other cheek is hard for people in a country that grew up out of the ashes of european jewery, this is simply an extension of "Never Again" in the mind of alot of Isrealis. The contued conflict only pushes people to the extremes, on both sides, and the extreamist are just fine with that scinario.”

On the other hand, you are only partly correct. Granted, Hamas is using them as human shields, but think about how they got to where they are right now. They were elected, in a landslide that makes Obama's victory last November look tiny. And then the USA and Israel, both countries which had been pushing for Democracy, suddenly decided that they didn't like the outcome of it.
The other thing to look at is that Hamas is more than just a terrorist organization. They are the ones providing schools. They are the ones providing the medical care. They are the ones providing police and fire protections. To the average Joe Palestinian on the street, they are the good guys, not because they are extremists, but because they are helping him feed his family, and keep his kids alive, and giving his kids an education. Whereas Israel is the one trying to take all of that away without any replacement.”

“Your argument is that Israel has no right ot defend itself, because it has no right to exist? I'm not defending Isreal's actions in Gaza, however any move to peace has to begin with Israel's right to exist and specifically, its right to exist as a Jewish state.”
