Canadian Federal Lobbying: Oil, Banking Dominate

Canadian Federal Lobbying: Oil, Banking Dominate

Commented Dec 9, 2013 at 09:55:44 in Canada Business

“Canadians should not have to put up with lobbiests interfering with government. The oil companies not only lobby, but they also fund ads for the continued riight to mine the tar sands though it actually hurts Canada and the profits are theirs and not canada's. A short letter from the oil companies resulted in the reversal of at least two hundred environmental laws. The muzzling of scientists so Canadians are kept in the dark is profitable for oil companies and mining companies but has destroyed our right to demand action. Ignorance is not bliss. It is the job of the oil companies to maximize profits and it is the job of our government to protect us. The government gets an F and the companies get an A. Harper will certainly get to sit on the boards of oil and banks. And this is right for although Canadians pay him he is destroying our future and has run us into debt doing it. The story of Ford and his lies and associates and the death of Mandela have taken our eye off the lies of Harper and his lackeys while allowing companies to walk away with our country. No eleted member of a council or of parliament or a bureaucrat should be allowed to see or hear from a private company. We pay elected people and the bureacrats to represent us not a private, for profit company. Our children will curse us for allowing their heritage to be destroyed for nothing.”

“"Canadians should not have to put up with lobbiests interfering with government"

I want to agree with your statement there but I must disagree. While there are lobby groups that are well...rather detrimental to the population there are some lobby groups that have done some real good. For example...MAD (mothers against drunk driving) helped lobby the government for our drunk driving laws. Oil...well aside from slicking political pockets I don't see them contributing much.”

“Harper has steadfastly maintained that he was kept in the dark about the scheme until learning May 15 that Wright had repaid Duffy's expenses, and has been laying the blame squarely at their feet.

Somebody wasn't paying the hydro bill and so Harper was in the dark and has been in the dark for years and years. He can't seem to find the three billion. He seemed unaware of Clement getting fifty million dollars chanelled to his riding office so he could build gazebos. He seemed unaware of Wallin or Duffy doing funny stuff or the CPC (aka the Reform or Con part) being asked to cough up for Duffy and the need for the long form census or for scientists to speak freely re their findings or of the need to support our veterans. Bev Oda's orange juice was nothing compared to Harper and his sitting members. He just managed to get the Jews in Toronto to cough up a lot of money to support him by saying he will go to Israel shorty (taxpayers will pay) and of course he continues to get money from the oil companies mining the tar sands for money regardless of the costs all of us pay. Harper is a first class con man.”

“Just so you keep up to date - there was a forensic audit on the 3.1b and they did find it all. The question then becomes how they could be so lax and incompetent as to lose track of that level of spending and allocations in the first place.

Remember this is the party (falsely) claiming the high ground on economic management and accountability.”

But at least they were able to line the pockets of their rich friends, so in that sense, they fulfilled their primary mandate.”

“The Perry pre school program proves an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Yet the GOP in general and the Tea Baggers in particular are opposed to either prevention or mercy. It is incredibly expensive to maintain the largest prison population the world has ever known. Americans would do well to have preschool for four year olds and reduce the number of inmates and the cost of the police force, the judicial system. the parole system and prisons. It pays seven dollars for every one dollar invested and that is not counting the added taxes paid by those children who are in prekindergarten and grow up to earn fifty percent more than those who just go to kindergarten.”
