Jay Rockefeller Tears Into Howard Dean: 'Nonsense ... Irresponsible' (VIDEO)

Commented Dec 16, 2009 at 22:13:40 in Politics

“Here's the problem Senator Rockefeller: What we have after all this month is not an improved bill, but a watered down piece of crap? And now that you know America thinks it's a watered down piece of crap, does that mean you'll try and improve it by putting some of the good stuff people wanted back in it? Or will you kowtow to Obama, Emmanuel, and Lieberman instead of doing the right thing by the American people and busting this bill apart and ramming it through via reconciliation?

Jay - You're in the right on healthcare reform - lash out at Lieberman, not Dean.”

“In what best sense is that? That the freedoms we hold and the laws we pass are arbitrary? That we can no longer hold out or American democracy as an ideal to other nation states? That, on a purely human level, we have succumbed to base instincts? In the sense that instead of getting our country off of the Arab oil crack we developed an Energy Bill that was a giveaway to Big Oil and Big Coal?

We are a SHADOW of the best vision of ourselves due to Dick Cheney and George W. Bush.”

“Exactly. Even though, like John McCain once said, we should make earmark supporters "famous and you will know their names" unless we know what business is being discussed by said lobbyists with the politician, then we can't always construe evil intent when a lobbyist lobbies.

Business deserves a seat at the table - not enough to exert undue influence - but they deserve to make their opinions known to the political establishment. They have just as much right to that freedom of speech and expression as liberal interest groups. Because sometimes when business gets what they want they actualy do create wealth in this country by hiring workers, building plants and offices, etc...

WHERE'S THE STORY?”

NY Times/CBS News Poll: Wide Support For Government-Run Option Competing With Private Insurers

Commented Jun 21, 2009 at 10:54:34 in Politics

“"...77 percent said they were very or somewhat satisfied with the quality of their own care. "

But what does "care" mean in this question? We all seem to like our doctors, it's our INSURANCE PROVIDERS we are not satisfied with. Because we trust that our finely-trained doctors would be delivering even better healthcare without the insurance companies tieing their hands by telling those doctors what tests are"necessary," what treatments are "experimental," and therefore, not covered.

We applaud the medical profession - it's the medical insurance bureaucracy and callousness we loathe.”

FaceReality2 replied on Jun 21, 2009 at 11:03:34

“The right wing continually conflates health care with health insurance because they know people like their doctors. Their phrases "government run health care" and "government takeover of health care" are intentionally misleading, intended to engender fear about losing one's doctor. In every other country besides Britain, health care is provided by the private sector, not by the government, and they know that. Lies and half truths are all they have.”

LeftCoastLarry replied on Jun 21, 2009 at 10:58:43

“And will the insurance company be there for you when you need them most? If you lose your job and find yourself without insurance, can you buy insurance if you have a previously existing condition? Will your new employer's insurance cover that condition?
Why do we need a system in this country, of all places, where so many people end up hurting? Are profits for insurance company executives that important?”

Palin: Obama Wants To "Control The People" With Bailout Money

Commented Jun 04, 2009 at 21:08:35 in Politics

“Yes, and it's not as if money isn't a motivator for people. We go to jobs and work for money and healthcare. Do we believe our companies control us in that way? Well, YES, but the point is we allow our jobs some level of control... as long as we get paid and get benefits.

And it's not like BUSINESS hasn't, through lobbying, tried to control the government, so isn't it just about time we reversed course?”

Ann Taylor To Shutter 163 Stores By 2010

Commented Mar 06, 2009 at 16:14:37 in Business

“That's a COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE HEADLINE. Read the story. It says:

"AnnTaylor said it expects to close 163 stores by fiscal 2010, 46 more than the 117 closings announced in January 2008. The chain shuttered 60 stores last year. "

The key phrase is "announced in January, 2008."

Get the math straight. They added 46 store closings to the 117 store closings announced OVER A YEAR AGO!!! How is that new?”
