Kelly Ayotte Declines To Meet With Gun Violence Victim's Widow During Recess

Kelly Ayotte Declines To Meet With Gun Violence Victim's Widow During Recess

Commented May 3, 2013 at 19:57:08 in Politics

“I have not heard anyone propose the common sense solution to gun control. What would be bad about requiring all prospective gun purchasers to apply for a permit to do so? It would cover the need/want of the 90% who favor background checks and not encumber the gun owners. Why should owners of gun be burdened with more paperwork and regulations when it is the potential gun owner that is a concern? Let the burden fall to the people who desire a weapon to pay for the expense of clearing themselves and if you do not have a permit/clearance to buy one any sale to you would violate the law. Feedback please on this commonsense proposal.”

It is the record profits fat-cats who are the money and the brains behind the Astro-Turf movement and are being rewarded for their efforts with stalled legislation to reign them in and kill the goose that laid the golden egg (Bush).”

“Some very simple math solves the Southern border issue. The drones coming home from the war (4000 or so) could be put to good use monitoring the U.S. Border and providing real-time info to seasoned operators. 160 to 200 drones would cover the 2000 mile length with room to spare and provide around the clock notice if anyone crosses the imaginary line that separates us from Mexico. Once seen to cross in violation of the law, subjects could be tracked and intercepted without fear of ambush and with reduced hazard to Border Patrol agents. Overnight not one single incursion will go undetected, the intercepts are set up in advance at a place of the officers choosing and everyone should be happy. To practical to be of interest to Washington.”

The whole concept of a Divided States of America is so tragic and a logical conclusion to the Tea Party Agenda. Little foresight is in evidence in the petition states and the idea that the Red States (who are most dependent on the Government teat) are ready to stand on their own is unfounded in reality. Come to think of it, very little of Republican and Conservative policy of late has any reality in it either. This is going to be a lot of fun to watch. It would not be a lot of fun to live through.”

“Gov. Romney fears for American when the voting block of Latinos go the way of the Blacks? What has he got to be afraid of in a nation ruled by law and led by the opinions of the majority of its citizens. Just because it will no longer be his white upper-class $50k a plate backers in control should not ruin their apatite. Maybe it is the Golden Rule (booed at a Republican debate when envisioned as practical foreign policy by Ron Paul) worries them because if the majority does to them as they have done to us it will not be pretty. Let's start by valuing my labor as much as Mitt's capital gains. The skewed viewpoint that my manual labor is taxed while his income from investments of his Father's money is not leads to the disparities we see today between the haves and the have-nots. The age old story plays out in America where the owners have to control the labor or all will be lost. America as they know it has never been the American I know it can be.”

“...or even how Adam Smith wanted his reform of "capitalism" to be either. Time for this country to get back to basics...the basics of our founders and their ideals of what was good for "we the people" in order to form a more perfect "union"......and an economy based upon a truly free (not rigged) market. No wonder those fat cats are so desperate. Deep down they know that the only way they do succeed is to keep the markets rigged and people down.”

“The Republicans fear of the "Black Man" in the White House is telling when added to Gov. Romney's revelation that the Latino voting block is lost to his party for the future and he fears for America as a result. I am not sure what horror he envisions but we can rest assured that they are unfounded. When you have a country as dynamic as the United States the changes in social mores and pace of tech demand that you keep pace as a representative. The glacial rate at which the GOP responds to change (still fighting Roe v. Wade, global warming, EPA, civil rights, voting rights, Civil War, etc.) will be their ultimate downfall. Are we seeing the last gasp by a dying breed of American. You must admit the "Old Boy Network" had a good run but even all bad things must come to and end.”

“After several days of waiting, no one has made much of the worst comment in the fund-raising speech Gov. Romney has been blasted for this week. Listen to the end and take careful note of his prediction for the Republican party and America's future. I will not quote but paraphrase him. He said in essence that if the Latino voting block continues to go the way of the African-American voters the Republicans are doomed as a party and the Nation is doomed as well. If you take his words as truth for a change, you see why they are so desperate to win this election. It may be the last time in history that the White Establishment and the Grand Old Patriarchs have their chance to grab the brass ring and control our morals. If they loose this time to this man they will have to rethink the direction of the moral platform or become marginalized as a fringe party. Those who refuse to change with the times are usually involved in politics.”

“Historical attempts to legislate morality have been dismal failures. Even in the Muslim nations that use the death penalty to enforce laws we consider harsh seem to have no shortage of violators. If we continue on the path of an unpopular drug war in countries where we are no longer welcome the decision will come against the will of the majority of the voters. Getting the fiscal house in order in Washington could not have a better beginning than de-funding the War On Drugs and the blanket pardon of prisoners of that war. The release of the small time possession prisoners in federal penal institutions cost billions every year and ruins the lives of users for a victimless crime. All attempts at prohibition fail (gambling, prostitution, drink, drugs, guns) because people are going to do what they want to do and making it illegal only creates a new class of criminals to deal with. Smart government regulates and taxes the immoral acts of citizens of legal age and recognizes that income not expenses is the benchmark of wise leadership. The moral high ground comes with a cost and the money comes out or your pocket. Say something to someone about it please.”

“What is wrong with a political party that has a national stage, with all eyes on them, and proceeds to lie about everything? We wanted President Obama to succeed? No one can believe that. The stated goal of your own leadership was to make Obama a one term president. The only honest presentation of the entire event was Eastwood's. The disconnect between the events I lived and his perspective (Obama started the conflict in Afghanistan?) is telling because he represents an entire segment of the voters in America who only remember what Fox News tells them today. If you cannot remember history (Bush 43 and his failed economic and foreign policy agenda) you are doomed to repeat it. I have repeatedly advocated that we talk to our youth and inform them of the danger of another Republican administration, but Clint has led me to believe that we also must be alert to saving our parents and the other seniors near and dear to us from themselves. I wish we could trust voters not to elect him without a better idea of what he stands for. Isn't it unfortunate that what he stands for day to day is whatever was whispered in his ear last. I do not trust this man and am afraid for the future of my Nation if he gets to play with the U.S. economy like he did with his daddy's money. Romney as fluid in his beliefs. Most recognize a tax dodger when they see one. His elite birth and continuing assertions that he owes his sterling history in the world of high finance due to his own hard work are recognized as bullsh?t self-promotion. His plan for the return of a 1950's approach to women's health care and abortion are recognized as the agenda of the Grand Old Patriarchs and contrasts sharply with majority views in 2012. One can only hope that a majority of voters in November turn this outstanding level of name recognition into knowledge of his position(s) and pull the lever for the other guy. What is his name again? Only then can legislation move forward and be blocked in the Senate. Sounds like the same thing that is happening now. My approach would be different in that I would hope to switch my bums for the GOP bums and get the country moving forward. Everyone seems to think that the other party's ideas are bad for the nation but the stagnation is worse. I challenge the Republicans to take a chance and pass something and if it is bad let the Democrats fail. Doing nothing is not what they were sent to Congress for and a very good reason for voters to do an Etch-A-Sketch on the 2010 class of clowns. Obama and all Democrats in 2012.”

“Since the polls are rigged it is of no use to me as information. When 80% of registered voters 30 and younger have never owned a land line (and some may not even know what a land line is), the simple fact that the next political poll call I get on my cell will also be my first. With this entire segment of the largely Democratic voting bloc not being polled ("the lucky ones" we will call them) the fact that President Obama leads tells me how badly even the 30+ largely more Conservative bloc finds Gov. Romney distasteful.”

Mary Mclocke on Aug 8, 2012 at 18:52:57

“As an Independent voter who thinks that robocalls during the dinner hour are a pain, I can give you two ways that the polls are at least not correct.

First, I got six calls one day last week between 5:30 and 7:00 Pm. Being annoyed, I told those who called for Romney that I was voting for Obama, and those who called for Obama that I was voting for Romney. I was a bit cranky that they all had the nerve to call at the time of the day when we're preparing & serving dinner. In reality, I'm still an undecided Independent as is my husband.

Secondly, we have 7 adult children who are registered voters. Of the 7, only 2 have landline phones: one an Independent, one a Democrat. The others all use their cell phones as their primary phones. So on that count, you're absolutely right. All of us but two (and a daughter in law) are Independents with those two being registered Democrats. One without a landline is my middle son and his wife who I believe are two of Obama's biggest 'fans." I have a picture of them both dressed head to toe in 'Obama gear.' My son is 28, his wife is 23. They're all in that very "30 and younger block" or close, as my Democrat daughter is 32.

So I have to agree, not that the polls are "rigged" nesscessarily, but I'm pretty certain that they're far from accurate.”

BGDiNLV on Aug 8, 2012 at 18:09:37

“This is very simple to understand. The younger demographic 4 years ago, could not vote i.e 14-17 year olds. Well in their young eyes and I have spoken to alot of them. Mittens is grandpa, and they have essentially grown up with Barack being their president. Now I do not know the numbers, but that age group can now VOTE! That is millions and millions of new voters! They do not want grandpa in the white house, plus unless you can TEXT a POLL! I would not trust them as far as I could throw them, especially for that demographic.”

kfmagee on Aug 8, 2012 at 17:53:21

“Plausible points, but I have a land line... and no one has ever called me either. The key point is that Conservatives and the Challenger party (this term the Republicans) are almost a solid 55% traditional voter group.... while the Liberal and Incumbant parties are more historically a 33-35% turnout voter group. I do think it will be close, but while I thought Obama had an insurmountable hold on the presidency a year ago, I think there is so much negative news about his administration that he is in REAL trouble. I am thinking Romney will win a close election. The majority of undecided/uncommitteds voters that were really a swing in FAVOR of Obama are now showing a far more Romney preference in the manority of polls (Reuters, Neilssen, USA Today, etc.).”
