As usual, the GOP overplayed their hand and things have swung back the opposite way.

So, you are going to equate one incident where a union member placed his hand on the shoulder of an incoherent, ranting disruptor, and, vague, unproven accusations levelled against ACORN (an organization btw, which John McCain supported, spoke in front of, and as recently as 2006 described as being "what makes America special") with the actions of an entire political party?

The GOP is quite simply a party that has found itself to be morally, philosophically, and intellectually bankrupt (of which you are a textbook example). Instead, they, and you, have chosen to use racism, fearmongering, falsehoods, mob threats, specious accusations, and an unwillingness (or, more likely, an inability) to offer any solutions or ideas of its own, having chosen instead to merely be the party of "No".

Your invoking of "God" pretty much signifies your desperatio­n...melodr­ama and hyperbole are about all you have left at this point.

I'll give you some credit, though. You were half right on one point:

The real beauty is that your post fully illustrates, klieg lighting and all, the real state of conservative politics and the mindset that informs (if one can be so bold as to use such a term) it.

Sarah Palin is without doubt the single most self-centered political figure of either gender in the U.S. today. Women on the left such as Barbara Boxer, Hillary Clinton, actually stay in office, draft legislation, and work hard for what they feel is the betterment of the nation and its citizens. Palin quits, lies, dissembles, preens, and thinks of nothing but ego gratification and indiviudal financial remuneration.

Her moral beliefs don't seem to encompass except craven polemics, used to divide and lecture people, while she runs roughshold over any concept of personal responsibility in her own life. It's always someone else's fault in Palin's universe..­.the "gotcha" media, the left, Levi Johnston, anyone or anything but herself, as she tirelessly casts the nation's most dysfuctional poltical family as bit players in her ongoing drama.

And then there are the fools like you that prop her up. The true spittle flecked voices and faces of impotent rage, the town hall thugs and dupes, shelling out for a ghost written book that is as empty and vacuous as the minds of its purported author.

But please, continue of the path that you are on....the GOP/RW has never been so marginalized or discredited as it is now.”

“You fail to mention that during the Republican administrations, the Democrats did reach across the aisle and tried to work with the administration. As disastrous as the Reagan and Bush (I & II) tax cuts were, some Democrats (unwisely) supported them. When it comes to Clinton and Obama, there is no cooperation. It's all been obstruction, obfuscation, scare tactics and outright falsehoods.

Spending bills don't originate with the President, but the President, along with his party, sets the agenda and makes their "wish list" of sorts. Reagan and both Bushes (especially W) got basically everything they wanted in their spending bills.

As I pointed out above, it is a simple truth that deficits balloon under the GOP, and are reduced, eliminated, and are sometimes turned into surpluses during Democratic ones. Yes, the deficit has grown under Obama's administration thus far, some of which is his fault, some of which is not. There is a need to spend and stimulate the economy at the present time. Have all of the decisions been the right ones? No. But many of the steps taken were necessary. But anything is better than the asleep at the switch approach of the previous administration. We'll see how things pan out a year or two from now.”

I don't think that you can really say that your current white friends "let you live next door". No, they don't deserve awards, they aren't in a position to permit or deny where you live.

While the road there is difficult, not all racial progress is the result of people being grudgingly forced to accept a changed circumstance. There are plenty of cases of people of all races working to forge a commitment to equality.

And at some point, people have to let go of past hurt, when appropriate. I realize that it isn't always possisble, or even the right thing to do. Some things shouldn't be "understood" or forgiven, because of the heinous nature of the act.
But, when appropriate, forgiveness and mercy is every bit as powerful an agent for change as is anger.

No, I haven't suffered racism, at least not that I am aware of, and if it occurred, it must not have been anything very severe (yes, I am white).
And I don't discount what you said in your reply. To me, racism is horror and terror.

I saw Elwin Wilson interviewed on television, and, just as people who have suffered racism probably relive it every day to some extent, it appeared that he was been (rightly) haunted and tortured by the memory of what he did every day, for quite some time.
