Decade Roundup: 7 Signs We Are Becoming More Spiritually Focused

“Agreed! Maybe in his little circle he sees more spiritualism. Where I stand, I see more ignorance and religious-based bigotry and hatred towards fellow man/woman. I know being "spiritual" doesn't necessitate being religious. But in American, it does.”

“"I have no real interest in entities where (mostly white) men, driven by arrogance and ignorance, created some fiction in their own image that presumes we are somehow special in the grander scheme of things. I believe nature has a very different view of our place among living things, and it is certainly not at the top."

“Agreed! But don't stop with just U.S. causalities, how about the innocent people killed in Iraq and Afghanistan because of his two illegal wars? It's devastating. Bush wanted to play King of the Hill, play with all the war toys available to him and he did. Blowing up the Middle East was so much fun for him, Cheney and Rumsfield.”

The Virtuous Man Named Jesus Christ

Commented Dec 24, 2009 at 08:56:05 in Living

“Considering the only info we have of a man named Jesus Christ are the writings (that were based on oral stories) of anonymous Greek speaking Christians who were not there to witness his life, who wrote the gospels at least 40 years after his alleged death , I hardly think you can say with definite certainty that you know what Jesus' mission truly was.

If a real man named Jesus actually lived, he was probably nothing more than a hysterical apocalyptic preacher be like our modern day Wayne Bent a/k/a Michael Travesser, whose prophesies failed, like all prophesies have done. There were several such men traveling around in that time. We have writings about them too. All performed miracles. It was common.

It only takes a little research to figure out that Christianity is built on a figure that is more a legend/myth.”

JQ replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 11:17:16

“The truth of the matter is that we probably have as much, if not more, information on Jesus as a historical figure than we have of numerous other figures in ancient history. Maybe "a little research" should be in order to figure them out as well.”

IrishMale replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 11:01:27

“Honestly, does it matter? The story of Jesus is enough to remind us of the value of compassion, courage, self-sacrifice and forgiveness. We have so precious few of these examples that the Jesus story is worth holding on to even if it's fiction.

Was Jesus even a real person? It's an academic question of little value. The more important question is why do so many of his followers live in direct opposition to his teachings every day? How did the message of Jesus get so perverted by money and politics that compassion and forgiveness are almost extinct?”

The Religious Decade: 2000 To 2010

Commented Dec 23, 2009 at 11:24:39 in Living

“I am hoping that we can put this "religious decade" behind us. What a nightmare it was. We are coming out of the imposed dark ages into the light once again. A new enlightenment is upon us. We need to keep it going. Speaking out against religion and the promotion of science and rational thinking should be done by every nonbeliever. Voting out religious nut jobs who are holding office in every level of government including school boards is a must. Supporting secular charities and organizations should be encouraged as well. Richard Dawkins' foundation is a great place to start as well as the Freedom From Religion Foundation and the Secular Coalition of America.

There are wars going on in YouTube (Atheists vs. Christians; Evolutionists vs. Creationists). It's a place where people go to share their views in an attempt to educate those who have been shielded from information by their families and church. And it's working. Numerous atheist blogs have popped up all over the net. Numerous books have been written.

In March of 2010, The Atheist Alliance International is holding their annual convention in Melborne Australia. It's going to be HUGE! There are several annual atheist conventions in the U.S. every year. The attendance keeps growing Secular Student clubs on college and university campuses are on the rise.

If the 20% who consider themselves nonreligious in this country could organize, consider the amount of power we could wield in politics and in our communities.”

'Oh god, thank you for the successful procreation session husband and I had last night. Without your love and power, it wouldn't have been possible. My husband's sperm would not have found it's way to my egg. Your guiding force was essential in this incredible and rare event (miracle) to happen. We all know having babies IS a miracle given by you only, even though there are over 6 BILLION people on this planet. That is 6 BILLION miracles!!! You are such a wondrous god!!"

Can I throw up now?”

“First of all, it's insulting and arrogant to thank a god for a touchdown or for a win. It takes away from all the hard work people actually DID in order to make the touchdown and/or win happen. I mean, do you really think a god is sitting up in the sky watching the football game giving certain players extra power in order to score a touchdown? What about the long hours of practicing, weightlifting, coaching, planning, scheming, etc. that goes into preparing for a game? Why thank a god for the work that was actually done by a human being? It's the height of insanity to do this. It's no different then giving credit to a god for making it through a surgery. What about the surgeons, nurses and medicine and the body's immune system and ability to heal itself? Here, watch this:

“Jesus' biological father is the holy spirit/god, not Joseph. Therefore, Jesus' lineage does not trace back to King David. Therefore the prophecy that god would send his son, a descendant of David, hasn't been fulfilled. I guess the writers of the NT didn't take that into account when they created their accounts of Jesus' life when they put the lineage of Joseph, which does trace back to King David. But here's the kicker: there are two lineages in the NT and each are different. Joseph has two different fathers and grandfathers....lol.”

“Fact: amino acids are found in meteorites that have landed on earth. Amino acids are the building blocks of life. We don't need to continue to believe that a god started life on this earth. We have sufficient evidence that life came from space and started on it's own. Let's put the whole "concept" of god on the shelf besides all the other failed hypothesis.”

Adam Bomb replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 07:22:31

“Just because it's plausible that God didn't create life like ZAP! (my belief as well), it doesn't mean God doesn't exist. People are more and more coming to realize that God and Science can be perfectly in harmony with each other, we just have to change our view of what God could be.”

I couldn't agree more. America is indeed the land of hypocrites and people in this country love to judge and throw stones. Yet if we take a microscope to every one's lives, we will find many skeletons and a lot of immoral behavior from the very people who are doing the harshest judging.”
