Bearing Witness 2.0 -- On Twitter Feed, A Man Tells His Story of Living With HIV (w/ TRANSCRIPT)

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 16:33:19 in Technology

“I, too, have been following @ChrisMacDen for a while, without knowing him or of his HIV status. I was kinda wrapped up in Obama's speech and tweeting about that, but as soon as he started his story, I was riveted. I was on my iPhone, not my computer, so i couldn't screen out the other tweets. I wanted everyone else to go away and let me concentrate on Chris. This was a special, almost transformative moment, and I thank @ChrisMacDen and Twitter for it.”

Why Twitter is the Most Popular Word of 2009

“How can they not count mobile tweeters? I do almost 100% of my twittering from my iPhone. I'm commenting here now from my iPhone. My laptop is feeling very neglected these days.”

“The Twitter site and mobile site are god awful. Just about everyone I know tweets from a separate application.”

Marine Commandant Defies White House on Gay Troops

Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 16:30:56 in Politics

“Nothing, not even war, should ever take precedence over Civil Rights, whether it is for African Americans, gays, whatever. Civil rights in the military cannot be seen as something that can be "put off" for any reason whatsoever. Congress needs to pass the legislation, and the President needs to sign it. Now.”

“I especially like the part about donating directly to people in need. I have been doing this since last spring with a particular young person and his father, and it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. One thing I have discovered is that sometimes the one thing people need most is transportation! If you don't live in a big city with mass transit, and if all the shopping is on the other side of town, it can be pretty tough. The kid plays high school football, and his father is most appreciative of me taking him to the football games to see his kid play. I sometimes buy groceries and stuff, but it is the football that makes him really smile. It makes me smile, too.”

“You can poll all you want, but no one asked me! I approve of Obama' s job performance about 98%. anyone who doesn't either did not vote for him in the first place or expects too much too fast. It is a big, hard job.”

AAKAlan replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 18:36:11

“I don't expect him to fulfill all his promises in the first year.

I do expect him to continue to stand up for them and espouse them passionately.

I do not expect him to compromise every core-belief he has on the altar of the false-god "Bipartisanship" which is exactly what he's doing now.”

lldem1 replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 16:56:50

“I for one voted for change and hope with Obama. But in his first year he tackled health care with a government run program(?) That's not change. That's more of the same. I really thought he was going to come up with some fresh ideas...some change. Government employees hire their family and friends too, just like they do in the Harvard network and the unions and the corporations.

I really thought Obama would separate himself from all corps, all unions, all politicians. Having the AFL-CIO like anything being pitched is a fast way to lose a lot of voters.

I haven't given up on Obama. He still has 3 years left, maybe 7. Let's hope he drops this maniacal approach to "solving" the health care crisis and get some change going. Before he tackles health care, how about bringing some change to the table. How about fixing what the government has already brought to the table? How about fixing taxes, and social security, Medicare, the William D Ford Direct Student Loan Program, Amtrak, the USPS. Change. That's why we voted him change. Progress. Fix something. Adding more of the same is not fixing.”

cable1977 replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 16:06:34

“I haven't yet reached the point where I wouldn't vote for him, but I am sorely missing some leadership on healthcare. I don't even need to see that we win, I just want to see them fight for what is right. You don't have to win the battle to earn respect.

Leadership isn't just about getting everything through compromise, its about standing up for what you believe in and fighting for those who can't fight for themselves. You don't need to win the battle, you just need to fight it.

How charged up would the Democrat's base been if, prior to recess, Obama had come out and really stood up for the public option. Really fought out against the lies and rhetoric. Maybe he wouldn't have won every battle, but he would have energized those people who supported him most, his base. Same with all the Democrats in Congress. Just fight for us. Let the Republicans fillibuster, keep the Senate open all night, don't stop debate. Just stand up for something, its what your base has been asking for for years now.

For all of the bad decisions Bush made over the years, one thing he understood was how to stand up for what he believed, however misguided, and truly fight for it. The Democrats need to take a lesson. Granted Bush and Co. fought with deciept and lies, but the Democrats don't need that since they are supported by good ideas.

Just lead us. Its all we ask.”

“You approve of bank bailouts that are giveaways, of continuing the Bush policies on rendition and torture, of health reform that only helps Big Pharma and the insurance industry, of an expansion of the war in Afghanistan and a continuation of the occupation of Iraq? The you must be very happy. Or are you standing there with your eyes squeezed shut repeating over and over again: Obama's doing a great job, he's doing a heckuva job, he's the greatest...?”

“I have so had it with CNN. They used to be respectable, now they are complicit in the dumbing down and stirring up of America. Lou Dobbs' comment about Dr. Dean was the last straw. Here is a copy of the comment I just left on CNN.com (a site I plan not to visit again if possible):

"I am a long-time viewer of CNN. I have even taken the tour in Atlanta. But I can no longer watch your network as long as Lou Dobbs is on it. He is a delusional and dangerous person who advocates hate, and he has no place on a legitimate news channel. When you finally decide to fire him, I will come back to CNN, but not before."

Everyone else who feels the same should let them know. There is strength in numbers.”

Atlgymguy replied on Aug 11, 2009 at 17:19:01

“Sir, you are a sad and pathetic vestige of an era gone by. Free health care is not part and parcel of America where the most advanced machines and drugs are developed to save the most lives. I suggest you stop writing letters to Dobbs and flee to the UK where you will be denied cancer treatment and die if you are over 55, which may be better than the miserable life you have here.”

countryjoe8 replied on Aug 03, 2009 at 12:09:48

“They didn't block it. What happened is that a new Google Voice app was denied acceptance in the App store. Also, a few older apps like GV Mobile were simultaneously removed from the App store. At&t has denied involvement in the decision, but I think they are lying.

When users are allowed to make long distance VOIP calls, they are bypassing the At&t network and At&t won't be able to charge them long distance. That's how it affects At&t's bottom line.”

I am a straight, middle-aged female who has always been sympathetic to the causes of the gay and lesbian communities, but it was only in the last year or so that I really came around to the belief that this is, at its heart, a civil rights issue. They are not getting equal protection under the law as required by the 14th amendment. Period. End of story.

And to those of you who insist that homosexuality is a choice, I just have one question? Could YOU change if you decided to? I didn't think so.”
