Google: Swiss Privacy Watchdog To Sue Google Street View
Commented Nov 13, 2009 at 16:11:48 in Technology
“Oh, so just because there might be some people out there who would like to "see" Switzerland, the laws of Switzerland should be ignored by Google.
There are plenty of Swiss tourism websites, Wikipedia or your local Barnes & Nobles that will provide you with pictures and informative cultural text, so you don't just "see", but maybe also understand the country (any country for that matter) better.
As for Hotels...not up for an adventure? Got to make sure Mac Donald's is half a block away?”

“Switzerland has it own laws and Google needs to abide by them. If you go to a foreign country and do something that they deem illegal, but e.g. the US does not, do you seriously expect that country to let you off the hook just because it's legal in the US (or your country of origin)? No of coarse not. The reverse is true too. Is that so hard to comprehend? It's not rocket science, just common sense.”

Did you ever stop and think that maybe there are people that would like to see that place ( not me) and can't get there for some reason. or would like to look at a hotel and the surrounding neighborhood before plunking down hard earned dollars to stay there. this is a non issue”

“I'm also one of those HSBC Master Card customers who never ever carries a balance, but received the rate hike notice.
What gets me the most is that the banks have the audacity to raise the rates for people who pay their balance every month. I find it completely insulting that they don't have the decency to give me a rate that is in line with my credit score. These rate hikes seem pre-emptive. Like vultures they are waiting for someone to fall into debt. All I can say is, I'm closing my account and they can go to h.e.l.l. I will not put up with these kinds of threats from my bank. If take-it or leave-it is their attitude towards a good customer then I won't put up with it.”

Summers: Banks Must Agree To New Regulation
Commented Oct 18, 2009 at 12:56:44 in Business
“You've hit the nail on the head.
The latest set of credit card regulations also seems to be nothing but an attempt to pacify the public. As is indicative of the notice I just received from my bank, there is no meat behind the regulation. They say they are complying, but then comes the whopper. If you don't accept the rate hikes and other "gotcha" line items, then they close your credit card account. It doesn't matter that you've never carried a balance, hardly use the card and have a great credit score. They will punish you no matter what. So, how are those who have already been dupped have any hope of getting out of this mess, when those who are still above water can seen what tactics are being employed to drag us under as well.
This is not regulation, it's a complete sell-out. Like with the insurance industry and their recission practices - the moto being we'll take your money, but you get sick or protest the terms and conditions and we'll kick you to the curb.”

“There will be no meaningful reform of anything until we elect politicians who do not accept the corporate money. How do we do that? We must build grass roots Internet based permanent organizations which can collect relatively small amounts of money from American citizens and distribute it only to those who do not accept the corporate money. We can also hire lobbyists who can lobby for us. This seems the only way we can start; use the same methods corporations use. $100 from 1,000,000 Americans equal $100,000,000 which can be a good beginning for targeting congressional districts for politicians who will not accept corporate money. If they do accept corporate money we threaten them as does AIPAC! They must fear us more than they do corporations. Once we have a critical mass of representatives who are representing us as opposed to corporations we can start passing meaningful reforms. Before that we are stuck with politicians representing corporate interests.”

“Nice try. Michael Moore is at least using his money to make films for the common good, like highlighting corruption of the so-called capitalist system.
Your comment is a poor deflection tactic that Maria Bartiromo tried on Morning Joe today. How does the money MM makes, in any way compare to what the WS guys make in bonuses. These WS types have continuously shown that it's not for the common good, but instead pure self-interest, greed and power.
When are people going to stop swallowing the junk-news that tax-payers are going to profit from their investments via TARP. The only way the taxpayer is going to profit in the long-term is if there are serious domestic and global regulations put in place.”

“Agreed and let me add....
By being invested IRA's and 401Ks it also ties us to the system. So those who still own shares in various entities hold on for dear life, but how much say do we have? None really! Collectively, maybe a lot, but getting together collectively to tackle this is difficult, and the banks count on our inability to do that.
We all cling to the little remenants of investments that we have in the system and let the banks manipulate us into thinking that if we speak out against them, we'll have nothing left. But if this continues, less and less people will have a vested interest - even an imaginary one - in the system, the more difficult it's going to be for the manipulators.”

Even their own nuns (experienced them in Africa) live these lives that I can look up to, but not when that life is displayed up against the image of the vatican. It just scream hipocracy.
To them all life is precious, hence their abstinence-only message. Yet it seems like they really only want a bigger and bigger population as a following to continue to pay for their maintenance bills. I really wonder what it takes to run that city, vs. how many people actually live there.”

Has she travelled to other countries and met with people to discuss healthcare, tax structures and regulations, to better understand the driving forces and how they got from A-B? I'm not saying this country needs to adopt the exact same healthcare structures as other countries (with the exception of the understanding that healthcare is a right and all should have access without going broke). But I just don't get the sense that she's informed and educated beyond the GOPs talking points.”
