401K Peformance: Average Account Balance Up 13% In 2009

“This article is total nonsense or at best the usual misleading pro mutual funds crap.
if you lose 50 5 and then you gain 50% you are NOT back where you started. The investment of let's say 7ooo dollars between march and october cannot possibly recover the losses due to any form of investment averaged at the same rate in the 15 years before: the big bulk of your money has lost 50% and the pittance of 7000 dollars you invested in 2009 has gained 15% look at the numbers and tell me you are so rich now.
These crooks always make you believe that the average cost of your shares is low but if you dollar averaged in the past 1.5 decades you bought high and higher: instead of seeing your hard earned money grow you lost some of YOUR PRINCIPAL!!.
True choice: one plan of guaranteed returns and another plan like the 401 403 they offer today should BOTH be offered at work: that is true choice not this crap we are forced to send our money to mutual funds companies that have bribed the CFOs one way or another and limit the number of good and cheap funds you can invest, You want change BO? look at this aspect of our lives!”

How bout you do something like say you started putting 10k a year (in a 401k before tax dollars) starting in 1992 and see if you would be ahead or behind in principle if you looked at your account today using the dow as rate of return. That would make more sense. Can you imagine you saying this in early 1998? It would have been a laugh.”

Neither one has a pot to piss in when it comes to righteousness, so try gleaning an opposing opinion once in a while. From browsing this site, it is painfully obvious how few actually do this.”
