Investors: Beware the Quackery of Economic Goats, Whitewashers and Charlatans

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 13:25:11 in Business

“Simply put banks have no money but huge debts : all of them;
they are deleveraging using our money to survive and our money, again, for daily business dealings when we use them;
the spread of the interest rates (what they pay to get money from each other and central bank vs what they give clients) is just created by our gvnmt so the banks accumualte bucks to pay their debts.
Of course when they make money is their money, when they lose money is our money
This is capitalism for you: if you do not protect the capital you have no society. Is another form of dictatorship in which human lives are sold out for the good of the capital.
In socialism they are sold out for the social architecture.
Wonderful, we need a third and fourth way of organizing societies: these 2 systems are abject failures.”

“10 people in each corporations ( CEOs CFOs vice this and vice that) made money out of free trade NAFTA and all the other incredibly stupid things that were passed so hurriedly by a clapping bunch of representaitves of the GOP and several of the dem party.
For The rest of us? they tyell us -in a few chosen words -:Just buy our goods made in China at wall mart and die of poisoning like a good slave would do since you do not make anything any more or if you do not like it go find a job in vietnam korea prChina.
ANd they vote GOP and blue dogs still.
Who cares what happens I say no more free trade and start having kids learn how to do things in a factory here int he good old USA. WHat is the difference form what is happening now anyway?: the dollar is in the toilet, gold is astronomically high, unemployement the highest in generations and 2 wars keep going. The difference is that China is making big bucks and getting better every day at our expenses. Great.
Keep free trade yup, such a great thing to buy soap made in China with antifreeze!”

Am I Angrier at Bart Stupak or Barack Obama?

Commented Nov 10, 2009 at 22:18:01 in Politics

“So when do we start a valid alternative to these 2 useless parties? When will the people realize that democracy cannot be served by a far right and a right of center party that live by the religion that corporation lobbying is the core of our "democracy"?
When?”

EbonBear replied on Nov 11, 2009 at 02:14:47

“When your media is reformed. The right-of-centre Democrats and Obama are already being painted as left of Mao. Your media tilts so far right, it makes even public conversation about anything on the left impossible.”

Democratic Party Out of Bounds

Commented Nov 09, 2009 at 21:43:57 in Politics

“where are two or three new parties?
We need to exsanguinate the cash out of lobbying corporaitons into more rivulets, we need to keep these parties in check: more parties on the right and on the left. If they want fascism let's at least call it as such and good night, but to see Obama coattail to fascists is not only irresponsible is dishonest.
Kucinich should create his own party and I do not care how small it is, I vote for him, Limbaugh should create his own party and let's see how many fascists are out there once and for all.
Enough of these fringes hiding under these two who0r3$%ish parties.”

Why It's Wrong When Wrongdoers Are Allowed to Admit No Wrongdoing

Commented Nov 09, 2009 at 14:26:39 in Business

“come on folks!
what do you expect from a country capable of voting for Bush enough to elect him twice?
E.G of inefficiency and stranglehold of corporaiton in our nation but not in others: Lisbon Moskow on high speed train is almost finished -crossing so many nations and two poltical blocks and how many different train systems? -while we can't even have a light rail in Scottsdale AZ (flat like a board with acreage to spare and no ruins to displace) because two or three merchants will feel dysrupted....pathetic they win we all lost.
It is us the enemy, us: we allowed fascism to flourish and strangle the legal system our schools education and gvnmt, look at your fellow americans: we all allowed this to happen.
Even Castro got it right: a nation gets the gvnmt it deserves.
France has had so many republics always in an attempt to get it better we have had a constituion, one only one, and we shredded it.”

“If the GOPs thinks the disillusionement with BO is pro GOP, they are even more nuts than I thought. It means only we will never vote for anybody that isn't a true + true progressive, never EVER for far right demagogues. We want change, id Obama does not deliver will find someone else, and is not Boehner for God's Sake!”

Commented Nov 04, 2009 at 08:54:06 in Politics

“My goodness: we voted for change and we got somebody that wants to be like " them neanderthals" for political gain! how is that for a dousing of idealism of hope of change?
This should be written in the future as "how to screw up an election victory in the USA".
What do they think in the WH? that we americans are all thinking power, next election etc? We wanted a blow to the establishment to the way of doing business for business, not a "I can do help the money better than the GOP" bunch in power.
We voted BO we elected Gephard,
While a delay of reforms due to a Bush is understandable and is recoverable from, we will never recover form the failure to "progress" by a democratic president that campaigned as a progressive and failed to deliver, never.”

Is This as Good as It Gets From Obama?

Commented Nov 03, 2009 at 15:30:42 in Politics

“To the dear friends that think is a matter of patience, I say no! is a matter of choices made:
it has been by choice that single payer was off the table, that nationalization of the banks to which we give billions did not occur so that goldman sachs can make billions by cashing in short bets. it is by choice that there is talk of weakening consumer protection, it is by choice that every progressive argument or topic has been watered down to look like Gorge Herber bush is in the WH.
It is by choice that we have Geither -the guy that should have stopped this madness of SWAPS securitization of mortgags lack of supervision of the sharks of WS long ago when he was the fed reserve bank chief in NYC, it is by BO choice that he is in the cabinet.
Is not matter of patience! What do you think is going to happen if we wait? That Obama will reverse all the ricotta-cheese woobly legs mini reforms he has done so far?
It is a shame and there is no other way of putting it, and the shame is more of the democratic party operatives than of an unexperienced president. It is a shame nonetheless: the far right will destroy our lives in the near future. There will never be a true health care or finance reform in this country and if you see it otherwise I want to drink what you are drinking.”

“when Arianna and all the bloggers saw Geithner sommers rahm delahunt appointed why didn't they raise hell then?
2 things were obvious:
or 1) the old coattailing to Wall street was a priority for BO
or 2) he had no friends or knew was he was doing
Sorry but is the logicla conclusion of all of htis.
In the meantime keep paying CIT and goldman sachs and God forbid we will never ever nationalize them or have single payer!
Bye Bye democrats enough is enough, will never vote for any of these two parties again
Is better to fall off the radars and maek them guess what people will do : more effective than receiving letters from Nancy or Harry at home.”

Tackling the Threat to U.S. Scientific Competitiveness

“I went to several graduations at a state university. May be Americans like to see disheveled students covering their t-shirts and flip flops with the togas assemble in a football field in the thousands to celebrate the diploma.
It is not a pretty sight and the sense of ceremony and the real meaning of what studying is for the individual the family and society is lost with the help of the usual speech by somebody that is almost always a military past hero or that devised something good for the military and therefore can tell the kids how good is to be in the military for the greatness of the American Empire.
Well, when you graduate in other countries (not with a PhD mind you am talking regular university degrees) you defend your doctoral thesis no matter what "U of " you are in. We have dumbed down so much we look like stalinist diploma farms.
Just a thought.”
