“Not to sound like complete dummy here. Let me get this straight, Utah now has same sex marriage ?? Somebody please clear this up for me”
ddmaul on Jan 4, 2014 at 21:49:14
“Not that you couldn't spend two seconds looking this up for yourself:
Utah passed a Constitutional Amendment restricting marriage to one man, one woman.
That was challenged, and ruled unconstitutional but the 10th Circuit. With that law struck down, same-sex marriages began taking place.
Utah appealed to the 10th District for a stay - to stop the marriages until the constitutionality of the amendment has been decided (conveniently ignoring that it's ALREADY been found unconstitutional). The stay was denied. Utah appealed again (please?) and again (pretty please?), but the stay was still denied. Now they're asking the Supreme Court for a stay, so yeah, unless and until a stay is granted, same-sex marriages keep taking place - with full legality - in Utah.”
gentryt9 on Jan 4, 2014 at 21:31:20
“A federal judge ruled the ban unconstitutional and the decision was immediate. They have so far lost a stay request from the 10th district and awaiting the supremes to issue a decision on a stay. This was around the 20th of December and so far about 1000 couples have wed legally.”
Juke Riffhammer on Jan 4, 2014 at 21:20:50
“A yup. It currently exists due to a righteous judicial ruling in combination with an inept Attorney General's office which bungled a request for a stay of the judge's order pending appeal.
Like what happened in California a few years back, Utah will now have a few months in which gay marriage is legal. Then, when and if a higher court pulls the rug out from under it, there will be thousands of gay couples with actual standing to put forth equal protection claims which will end with a judicial decision making it permanently legal. The Supreme Court has already made it clear that you can't have a state in which some of the gay couples are married and other ones are not allowed to be so.
Seeing as how the Mormon Church was a major and unwelcomed backer of Prop 8 in California, one can't help but to feel some special glee from the current turn of events.”

“For those on this post that say that "cant stand him" You need to examine yourselves. All he is trying to do is give healthcare to those who need it. It never ceases to amaze me the hatred and the vitriol that comes out of some of your posts. The world is changing and I think that is what you can't stand. You can't stand progress. You can't run from it either. Universal health is here to stay deal with.”

“I disagree, Republicans know it's their fault. They just didn't think Obama would really not compromise. He's given in so much in the past five years. I wish he did this from the get go. Stand pat Mr. President.”
“"The idea that Susan Collins can dictate what happens in the Senate is kind of silly," Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas) said.
Somehow you house republicans thought that Cruz could dictate what happens in the Senate. What make this any different?”

“Let's see....First it was defunding AHCA, which was illegal anyway; Then it was suddenly this "concern" that Americans weren't getting a fair shake on the individual mandate and congress being "exempt" from AHCA; Then it was a laundry list that included approving the Keystone pipeline and allowing oil drilling on federally protected lands; Then it was a six week measure to raise the debt ceiling only, (Saving their Wall Street and Banker backers from taking a hit from a default, but telling the 350,000 furloughed federal workers to go take out a personal loan to pay their bills); Now it's cuts in entitlements including Social Security and Medicare. So, how many times has it changed? Don't these idjits think the American people see them changing and changing and changing every two hours to something different and can figure out that it's not about any of these things, but just some ridiculous attempt to keep playing a game that already ended until they can win something?”

Obama does have a history of caving, and it is recorded. He's really not a tough leader. He is from Hawaii, and I'm sorry, while they might be Polynesian, they sure are not the warring type of state or people. Obama has the aloha spirit. And that is what we see and refer to as his softer side.
He doesn't act like anyone from the mainland, becasue most of us wouldn't put up with 1/8th the BS he's had to put up with. The Clintons would have destroyed these guys or at least attempt to. Obama has always put out a welcoming hand, always ready with a compromise first, then deals later.
I mean it's backward, but it's how he views compromise and moving things along. and he's done some doozies. He went along with the sequester, which hurt and slowed the economy. While it lowered our debt and deficit, which is also very true, it did so at the cost of people. Unemployment is still abnormally high. The sequester hasn't helped that at all.
All some of us are saying is this, we're getting ready for this guy to completely cave. HE usually does, even when he has the upper hand.
If he doesn't, suffice it to say I'll be very pleasantly surprised.”

“You're either new to this planet or not paying attention. Just this past February, Democrats threatened to shut down the government to prevent the sequestration. They were convinced not to do so when they learned the worst effect of the sequester seemed to be canceling White House tours. You also said, "Make no mistake [sic] he is deep in the pockets of the rich." Could you please provide some support for that assertion? (Note: I don't actually expect to hear from you again. It's okay, I understand you got nothing.)”
