The Long Overdue Debate

Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 09:26:26 in Politics

“There most definately is someone running this country and its not the President ,the Senate or the House .Its some very wealthy giants like the Morgans and its that connection that needs to be broken if we are ever going to change the system. I do believe that the Republican party for the most part are all for these wealthy individuals running our country because that is what the Republican party has always stood for A Corporate USA .

Personally I believe our President has to stop catering to the right and use the majority he has to pass a single payer health program that doesn't hold profit as its bottom line as the insurance companies do. The big boys who run these corporations won't like it but their has to be a break from the big insurance industry if we are ever going to have good health care in this country.
Canada has long used a single payer health care plan where its a right for all their citizens to have health care and its worked fine for them. So why is the Republican party acting like Social medicine is such a horrible thing ? Because they get kickbacks from the Insurance companies to promote thier plan. I think if something doesn't change we might see a revolution in this country because if those leaders we vote for can't rid of us these barons then sadly us citizens might have to take matters into our own hands .”

“For all those nay sayers who don't believe there is such a thing as global warming , I would rather take the Henny Penny road and be safe rather than sorry. BTW what do you people have against clean water and air ?
Do you honestly think we could pollute the earth for as long as we have without the earth reacting to our carelessness and stupidity ? I guess some people would rather be part of the problem than they would change their polluting ways and be part of a solution.
Big corporations are making a bundle polluting our earth so you know they will do and say anything they can to stop the truth from being told .”

Famous for Being Famous: The Sarah Palin Show Is On the Air

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 12:25:43 in Politics

“I totally agree with you Bob the news media is rediculous in the way they are making news out of Palin and calling her famous ,,infamous maybe but not famous.
This woman was the Republican parties joke on the Democrates who already had a woman on the ticket ,"Hillary," they knew she was a air-head but figured the public was too stupid to notice. The joke was on the Republican party but now these news ( reality shows ) are once again bringing her into the public view much to the distaste of all of us who voted against McCain and her and only wished she went back to Alaska never to be heard of again. Shame on the New media for putting us through this torture all over again.
The Palin followers think we are scared of her but the truth is we just can't stand to see anyone so foolish to not realise they are making a public specktical of themselves pretending to be something their not . Her lying about saying things that she clearly has said and is documented on video makes her look not only stupid but also pathological .”

Collision: Is Religion Absurd or Good for the World?

Commented Oct 21, 2009 at 09:53:54 in Living

“I think religions past can answer that question as to whether its good or bad for the world.
How many people has it hurt ? Well thinking of just two incidences where religous fever led to genocide I give you #1 .Hitler and the genocide of the Jews .Hitler was a Christian and he believed God was on his side . #2. I give you the mass genocide and persecution of the Native American people .
This last example is the most recent as the early 70's and the closing of the last Christian school to house Native children and whose bodies have been recently unearthed .

Now in these recent days we have these new right wing christians who clearly are hypocrites since they show no empathy for anyone ,"whose not one of them," they don't even follow the bible they claim to believe in . In fact they have twisted the words in their own bible to justify their imoral actions .
To me its these so called christians who are the most dangerous to society because they are involved in politics and law making !

So I would have to conclude that religion will die out because of its followers actions that totally contradict what their bible preaches !
In short nobody likes a hypocrite . How long can Religion fail to answer questions by using the words ,the devil is talking through you to avoid giving an answer ? Not much longer I suspect !”

“Have you ver watched that show because it sure doesn't sound like it ? Have you seen how Jon was the one bathing the children and dressing them and Kate did the cooking .TLC it is learnedeven provided a cook for them and took care of all their needs besides giving them a big fat check for the episodes .
Kate was the one always whining and biching about everything Jon did and ever once did I hear her give him any credit.
iI think you were cheated on and lost your objectivity that must be your problem otherwise you would have seen just how controlling Kate is. I used to cringe every time I heard her berate Jon ,,which btw she seemed to enjoy doing . Have you ever thought that maybe his out of control actions right after the separation was because he was angry at Kate for the way she treated him. Good god he must have watched the reruns and seen how bad she really is.
I had a cheat for a husband but I can be objective ! At least Jon didn't cheat until they wer separated mine cheated while we were together.”

These two have skills to fall back on that isn't the proble the problem is Kate loves the fame and the money and doesn't want to give it up.
Jon had a good pointwhen he asked where the millions went that they were paid from TLC when TLC pays for all their needs and as he said heknows what the mortgage is ? Kate has been squirreling that money ay bets ?”

The husband on this show is a cop. He has a sense of humor that keeps him out of the doghouse. He and his wife are older and actually seem to like each other. One of their brood is handicapped and I think the whole family sees life a lot differently than the family of J&K+8. The wife's mother lives close by and helps out whenever she can.”

“Maybe if Kate would have listened to Jon long ago when he said he wanted to quit the show she could have saved her marriage ,,,or not .
Many times the children looked sad when they were on the show and frankly I think this is the best thing that ever happened to these children although it will take therapy to help them throug it. The quintuplets have spent their entire life on TV so learning the difference between real life and acting might take some help.

You know what I don't understand . How Jon went from the victim to the villian?
I can only imagine that Jon felt like a prisoner who was finally free and went a little crazy with the freedom ,but that doesn't change the fact that Kates controlling ways and not wanting to compromise in her marriage was the cause of the split .
TLC should have pulled the plug as soon as they saw Kate getting out of control with the attention she got from doing the show .
It didn't surprise me that both Kate and TLC wanted to do a show without Jon since these two don't really have the best interests of those children in mind . Its all about the money !
BTW Jon had a point ,what did Kate do with the million + she got for the show ?
I don't believe a word that woman says and her crying with dry eyes doesn't cut it either”

“When Obama took office and started to pick his staff he said he didn't want yes men beside him he wanted people who would question his decisions ,people who were free thinkers.
So now here we have Joe Biden against a build up of the war in Afganistan and you are saying because his views might differ from President Obama 's he should resign . What kind of logic is that ?
First of all let me say I agree with Joe Biden we should get out of both Iraq and Afganistan .
Its draining our economy for one and its not even a war that we could win !
Before Obama took office the word was out that the war in Afganistan was not a war we could win for several reasons , because there will always be terrorists ,if not in Afganistan then in Africa and other countries also as Biden said the terrorists cross the boarder into Pakistan where they are hiden and protected and a war with Pakistan could turn out to be a nuclear war and something none of us want .
Now as far as Bin Laden goes he died long ago and since Bush is no-longer president and putting out those videoss of Bin Laden to scare the American people well we haven't heard from or seen Ben Laden . Someone must have put out the wrong video of him because instead of him aging in the video he looked younger,,oops .

“That's also because there is a world of difference between what the Nazis did and what happened with European immigrants coming to America. I don't buy the sleight of hand that turned America from the good guys to the sole force of evil in the world. Likewise, I don't buy the recent attempts by pre-literate societies to say 'uh, we were like peaceful and loving and never did bad things until evil white evil Europeans (who were evil) came and started killing everyone. Truth be told it was a clash of cultures with each having its good and bad parts (unless you believe a person living on a plot of land has a right to keep anyone else from coming to that land to find liberty and happiness). It was unfortunate, sure. And many bad things were done to the American Indians by the US government. But don't equate it with the Holocaust, or we'll have to start equating the atrocities committed by American Indians with our own favorite historical reigns of terror.”

“Excuse me ?????????????????? Who gave who syphillus ? It was the Europeans who not only raped the Native woman and gave them syphillus but also Tuberculosis with those tainted blankets .
The Natives never had such deseases until the Europeans brought them into this country .

Yes some Native tribes were not pleasant, but the Aztec were only one tribe amoung many . I don't think any people can be judged by one person as all tribes can't be judged by one .

Funny though how this article brought out those who are on both sides of the issue ,those whose ancestors were persecuted by the coming of Columbus and who feel Columbus Day is an insult to their people and those who defend Columbus because they refuse to look at reality .”

Seems like your saying that generalizations are good for Europeans but not for "native" peoples. Europeans raped women and spread disease (which Europeans?) but one tribe, the Aztec (what about Toltec and Maya?) was unpleasant (human sacrifice = unpleasant?) This is the kind stuff that gets us nowhere.

Without a doubt there are bad components to all human civilizations. This doesn't mean everyone gets a free pass. It just means that hiding the bad stuff on one's own side of an argument does a disservice to all who are attempting to gain a better understanding of the world – including yourself.”

“Actually your version of what makes you a native American has flaws also because this land was never called America to begin with until the Europeans named it as such . So going back to the origin of America before it was called America native people were those who were here before Columbus ,,not the children born from the Europeans who raped and stole the land.”

daffey replied on Oct 13, 2009 at 14:37:12

“You know what? I'm not over 200 years old. It was called America when I was born in it. By the way, my ancestors neither raped nor stole the land. The government, in a grueling and one-sided set of treaties deprived them of it. But as we hear with the modern immigration movement, the people themselves were simply looking for a better life. Certainly we know from what we are told about immigrants we should respect that, no? Oh, and because my wife is descended both from American Indians and Americans who were slaughtered by American Indians, she is less sympathetic to the 'all Europeans evil/all American Indians perfect' paradigm of the last few decades. Unfortunately, it was a clash of cultures where someone had to go, and it ended up being the Indians shoved off their lands, browbeat with false treaties, and abused by the growing power of the US government. But never think that translates to ‘anyone with white skin was a murderer.’”

Dispelling the Myths Behind Columbus

Commented Oct 13, 2009 at 10:55:35 in Books

“I heard both views in school as to why Columbus set out to find America .
In Catholic school I was taught it was to prove the world was round and later I heard it was to escape religious persecution in Europe and to find a new trade route .

But I am disappointed that noting here was said about the true meaning of Columbus day ?
To the Native people who inhabited this country ,"America ," it was the worse day in history when Columbus landed bringing along with him a wave of Christian settlers who were set on converting the natives who they thought were savages. Those who wouldn't convert weren't trusted and therefore killed . It was the begining of the genocide of the Native people !
It was also the end of our clean air and water to make way for industry.
This is what Columbus Day means to the native people and all those people whose eyes are not shut .
So if you want the truth then seek it from those whose ancestors lived here and really know why Columbus came to this land and what it has meant to their people ever since that horrible day .
Does the German goverrnment celebrate the day the first Jews were killed in those death camp ovens ?
No they don't !
So why does this country make a holiday out of the day that began the genocide of the Native people and the take over”

Obama the Impotent

Commented Sep 26, 2009 at 10:02:06 in Politics

“I think Obama has to stand up against those Big Corporations pulling the strings in Washington . He needs to say no more and get down to the business of passing a Single Payer Health Care Bill , paassing a Clean Energy Bill, cleaning up our water , Making sure the FDA works for us and not against us and ending wars for profit .

If he does not make a stand soon then I am sad to say many of the people who voted for him will fall by the wayside discouraged with the whole voting process and what is suppose to be a government by the people anf for the people .
I know the Republican's want to see Obama fail but he won't fail if he fights back against those industries that have been running the show far too long now .If he makes the secrets public then those industries lose their power over him and Congress .
Our elected officials who have enjoyed all the extra perks these industries have given them for their vote need to take a good look in the mirror because they have sold their souls for pieces of silver ,its time they fessed up and started doing the job they were elected to do .
Have all government officials been bought off and lost all their morals ?

The Republican's want smaller government ,"so they say,"but do they really or do they want government to step aside so those big Corporations can”

SShaw490 replied on Sep 26, 2009 at 10:10:00

“He can't force Congress to do what they seem incapable of doing - which is to act in a responsible, leadership role on tough questions. They can't do health care legislation because there are 40 Senators whose sole agenda is to stop it at any cost and preserve a status quo that kills 45,000 Americans a year due to lack of health care. They can't do climate change legislation because they can't craft a bill that the public will support.

If Obama has a weakness, it's his dogged determination to work within the system even if the system no longer works at all. I'd love to see him write his own health care legislation and ram it through Congress, but that's just not his style. That's contrary to the Constitutional separation of powers and he's not going to do it. So we'll likely get nothing.”
