The Trouble with the New Atheists: Part II

Commented Jul 21, 2009 at 09:44:20 in Living

“Yes, it's superstition plain and simple--but if you say it, you're considered offensive. it just amazes me that supposedly sane people can buy into these psychotic visions and ancient, bizarre books to base their lives on.”

“Hi r81801
I think that Daniel Dennet has it right. Most religionists don't know a thing about the religions they say they are part of. Most don't even belong to a specific church. What they have is "faith in faith", or "belief in belief". They have a security blanket that they have been told since infancy will give them immortality. And they don't really bother looking too much into the whole thing, because since everybody else is mumbling the same lines, they don't won't to appear out of sync with their neighbours, because who wants to be singled out as different?”

Muslim Chic

“Fundamentalist religions are about control. In Seattle area there are plenty of women who wear the full coverings so you can't even see their eyes. What kind of human loathing god requires women to completely hide their entire selves? and if men are to be "modest" too, then why aren't they completely covered? the husbands are wearing jeans and tshirts while their wives are totally draped in layers of black.

This isn't about fashion or choice, it's about sad and outdated religious controls that are forced upon people or that people buy into.”

“I had this and regular MD said I'd need surgery as other treatment didn't help. Then I went and had one accupuncture treatment and very soon was completely fine. Was told that accupuncture has a traditional treatment for moms who just had babies and it includes something to help with this common wrist problem. It sure helped me.”

“Children do what they see, not what you tell them to. They're surrounded by adults on cells and computers, so of course that's what they want to do too.

If kids obsess about baseball scores or presidents or dinosaurs, people think it's cute. If it's a computer game, suddenly it's wrong. To me, it's no difference.

If something is causing actual harm to your child, then deal with it; if it's just your fear of technology and change, then deal with yourself.”
Why Do I Feel Sorry For Hillary?

Why Do I Feel Sorry For Hillary?

Commented Feb 14, 2008 at 09:44:15 in Living

“I feel sorry that so many voters will vote for any man over any woman. Obama is fine, but Clinton displays real world, pragmatic strengths that he doesn't. But it doesn't matter, because people want a rock star, a celebrity, a fantasy instead of real life.

I'll vote for Obama if he gets the nomination, but I'm still sad.”

Obama got to the top by earning it himself!
Hillary married Bill.
Think she would be running for office if she married a shoe salesman?”

“And in turn, I feel a bit sorry that so many voters will vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. Check out Obama's speech in Wisconsin and Q&A in TC Williams HS in VA. He is very specific, knowledgeable and convincing, and when you hear his proposals, you think, Wow, I've never in my lifetime seen such a good candidate. That's why people are voting for him.

As for feeling sorry for Hillary, I feel sorry for nearly any losing candidate because they put so much into it and then lost. OK, so sometimes I am kind of gleeful, but that's because I get worked up into thinking that people who oppose my favorite candidate are "enemies". Obama tries to get us to see it differently, and I aspire to someday having that kind of empathy. But really, can anyone feel sorry for Giuliani?”

“God I am so SICK of this line! I would love to vote for a female candidate for President! However, not a Clinton! Why can people not get this through their heads! I don't like her, not because she is a she, but because I do not like the political style she runs on! And frankly I am sick of this country being run by one of two families!”

The Power Of Words

“Words like Reagan are ill advised if you can actually remember what Reagan did. Obama seems to count on using big words like hope which everybody can project some inner fantasy on rather than practical details that pinpoint how he's going to make rabid right wingers who veto everything into rational humans who care about others and the planet. Sorry, I don't believe in presidents with magical powers.”

Kane replied on Jan 21, 2008 at 14:03:01

“From Hillary Clinton's presidential website:

"Her list of favorite presidents - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Truman, George H.W. Bush and Reagan - demonstrates how she thinks."

Bill's Straight Talk On Hill, Bent By The Press

Commented Jan 08, 2008 at 09:16:49 in Media

“Just as African American men got the vote way before women of any race, looks like we get an African American man president before any woman. Sad that sexism is still so strong. I realize Hillary's not progressive enough for many and that she doesn't speak as well as Obama, but if compare actual experience and accomplishments, Obama is far behind.

I like airy fairy speeches that a person can project a new utopia on as well as the next person, but I count actions over words.”

“Anybody who has had a sick family member or friend knows you can't stop living, stop working, stop functioning when someone you love is ill. Who pays the bills, feeds the kids, walks the dog? And his wife isn't bed ridden or in an end stage coma--she's doing her best to get the most out of each day. Couric is a hack trying to get some of Fox's viewers. Her ratings suck.”

Microsoft Under Fire For Trying To Pay Someone To Edit Its Wikipedia Entry...

Commented Jan 24, 2007 at 10:08:47 in Home

“If the info was wrong, then Wiki folks should have corrected it rather than try to blame MS for trying to get it corrected. In the IT world there's lots of BS out there based on emotion rather than fact. I'd think think Wiki would care more about correcting its errors than showing how hard it is to get mistakes fixed on their site.”
