The Cruel Dilemma Facing the Jews of Israel

Commented Oct 08, 2009 at 21:13:53 in World

“Of course Mr. Zuckerman KNOWS this. Nevertheless, the convoluted pretzel rationalization of disgraceful (and profitable) conduct is Israel's hallmark. Always has been. Always will be...until WE Americans cease funding/supporting this.

Perhaps it is time to put this to a referendum to the entire American population...w/out health insurance and imploding mortgages? Perhaps it is time for non-dual citizens to have a voice in this matter.”

“Thanks! We Americans made mistakes. We also know how to correct them.

I was born during legal Segregation and am a boomer.

The President of the United States is AA..

Israel should LEARN that the American people CAN change course...and the overwhelming majority of us have had it! So, they can remain delusional that THEY dictate terms to us...or adjust immediately. Whether do or not...we will...and are. And all the handwringing and angry (we aren't Palestinians, by the way - dah) outbursts in the world won't change the pendulum swinging taking place right now.

Irrational.”

“Historic bonds between AAs and Jews in America do not imply our having to support this deplorable conduct...nor will we as AAs do so.

This is a new century...and it is time for the State of Israel to STOP manipulating people based upon historical narratives - whether it goes back fifty years...or two thousand.

We too have a history...as do Native Americans, Asians, etc. We are a tapestry - and not a RELIGIOUS STATE...nor should we be propping one up over another.

ENOUGH.

Boycott Israel
An Israeli comes to the painful conclusion that it's the only way to save his country.
By Neve Gordon

August 20, 2009

Israeli newspapers this summer are filled with angry articles about the push for an international boycott of Israel. Films have been withdrawn from Israeli film festivals, Leonard Cohen is under fire around the world for his decision to perform in Tel Aviv, and Oxfam has severed ties with a celebrity spokesperson, a British actress who also endorses cosmetics produced in the occupied territories. Clearly, the campaign to use the kind of tactics that helped put an end to the practice of apartheid in South Africa is gaining many followers around the world....”

lainey replied on Aug 25, 2009 at 09:31:45

“The British actress is American. Facts are a mere formality when expressing hate.”

“How about we ask the citizens of Israel, who enjoy FREE lifetime education/healthcare courtesy of you/me...to carry one American city (NYC?) for a generation...and go without for a change to help someone else???

Now, that would be productive instead of destructive for a change.

How about THEY have to pay for whatever they tear down, for a change?”

“My question exactly. This is exactly the problem. WHO is Israel to impose their mandates on an American President? Thing clearly have gotten out of hand when there is a belief that our President can be mandated...by Israel (dah?) to do or act their way.

Finally, no AA - and I include our President - will ever have the trust/respect of Israelis. Period.

I say this as an AA....and this is a widely shared BELIEF.

So, it is up to Israel to gain the trust of the American President...and show more GRATITUDE and RESPECT to the hard-pressed American people, without whose support and financial sacrifices for multiple generations (when we certainly need to address our OWN needs) - they would not exist.

Ridiculous. Arrogant. Hubris...and, to my mind, a delusional belief that Israel can DICTATE to the American people and our President.

PLEASE...turn the page! We have more important things to deal with. Israel can get on board...or not...and pay the consequences ALONE.”

“The US and its taxpayers should NOT be propping up any religious State....giving preference to a specific religion over others in our foreign policy or any other policies. This is un-American and we never should have been manipulated into do so for two generations.

Enough.

As for the "special relationship" PR - when did the American citizens vote for that???”

knowBuddhaU replied on Jul 26, 2009 at 23:54:23

“Right. So are you saying that our myths constitute an improper, even un-American use of taxpayer funds?

By what myth are you living your life? For example, do you believe in the myth of the cosmos as a a great machine? Or as a great growing being? Etc.

Whether you acknowledge it our not, the power of myth shapes the world in which you enact your life.”

King of Pain

Commented Jul 26, 2009 at 11:01:32 in Entertainment

“I agree. MJ supported two generations of an army of Jacksons - via his mother - including the "expenses" for the Encino compound. That she allowed him to, via her as conduit, is shameful. First, it prevented his brothers from growing into independent roles as supporters of their own wives/children - and, second - it made Michael into the patriarch/breadwinner that Joe Jackson never has and never will be, though (again) Katherine Jackson's refusal to DIVORCE him and protect her children/grandchildren from him, allows him to dysfunctionally and toxically function as if he has been/is.

Michael Jackson should have had counseling and intervention no matter what - years ago. NOBODY cared enough to do it - and since the entire family (except for Janet) is financially dependent upon him in life and now death - nobody could.

Only Katherine Jackson had his ear and trust. She chose to allow her son to be commoditized for the rest of the family to exploit for his entire life. That he was in pain because of this FACT...should be of no surprise to anyone. If your mother burdens you with too much, unfairly...as a condition for holding HER husband/family together...you have been very poorly served in this life.”

CaveatLector replied on Jul 26, 2009 at 15:25:35

'Cause a movie about a young girl being picked on by other kids is really amazing, as well as a movie about a ner-do well ice cream truck driver and his drunky friends who hang out at the bar all the time-they're all amazing, right? PLEASE!

I'd rather watch Bruno than half of those Sundance crapfests.”
