“While I support the ACA in general and voted for Obama, Obama clearly did not tell the truth about people being able to keep their policies if they want to.
Are these policies - junk - sure many if not most probably are - but Obama never said that if you had a junk policy you would lose it.
IMHO - Democrats need to STOP trying to defend the statement from Obama - just say, yes, his statement was not completely honest but we are now where we are and we have to work with it.”

“I think your point is reasonable.
The attacks are generally politically motivated; among that opposition which aims to catch an opponent in a weak spot useful in counter attacks during elections.
The rest of the story is seldom told.
I got one of those letters.
It's not exactly as represented. The letter I got included three options:
1 - cancel my existing policy VOLUNTARILY, in order to replace it with an ACA qualifying policy with them.
2 - renew my existing policy by March, 2014, after signing a waiver for non-ACA compliance (I could keep the policy, but I might still be on the hook for the fine).
3 - shop the exchanges
There, the same company offered a similar policy on the exchange at about the same price, but one that was compliant with the ACA.
Interesting point: the price on the exchange was LOWER than the price I was already paying, and LOWER than the renewal price they offered in options 1 and 2.
More importantly, the policy on the exchange covered the ENTIRE family at that price, whereas the policy of options 1 and 2 only covered ONE person.
That might not be the most common, or even an example of the typical case - I have no data on everyone else.
That IS the case for my cancellation notice.
Bottom line, I'm better served and I don't need Obama's "fix" for the cancellation in my case.”

“Don't you get it? This isn't a slip of the tongue... he has been saying it for 4 years.
5 million policies that offered protection for far more people than that are gone. These policies were chosen by the people because they offered benefits they wanted and could afford. Just because Zeke said they were junk doesn't make it the truth. Remember he is a buddy of the guy you voted for.”

“ Broadly, I agree with everything you have said. At the same time I wonder how many people have any control over which insurance company they have? That decision has always been made for me by the HR department of my employer. And when I changed jobs I certainly had no control over who held my policy.”

“I agree with you. And frankly a lot of them aren't "junk". Our hospital is swamped with people trying to get procedures (that their junk insurance covers just fine) before they're cancelled. And now they "may" be uncancelled? What a mess.”
“"In Sundance Channel’s Dream School, premiering Oct. 7 at 10 p.m., celebrity teachers (Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Swizz Beatz, Jeff Corwin, Oliver Stone, and more) will play host to a class of dropouts with the hope of giving the disadvantaged youth the tools and inspiration they need to succeed in changing the course of their lives."
IMHO - "Celebrity Teachers" are worse then useful - they need to have people who grew up in the same circumstances, graduated from high school, and either went to college or went to work and "made it".
The kids need to see some REAL role models for what is possible in the real world - not from "stars" who won the lottery in their fields - as that give an unrealistic view and more of a lottery approach...”
“I suppose one way to look at this is a lot of future innocent people will be spared from this one man crime wave.”
carlsoncolorado on Oct 4, 2013 at 21:47:34
“One man's crime, are you talking about SUV driver, Christopher Cruz or Ed Mieses? Cruz intentionally slowed hitting SUV, then the subsequent events fell like a domino effect with SUV and family fearing for their life (2 year old in the vehicle), then unfortunately hit motorcycles and obviously hitting Mieses causing serious physical harm. Then, motorcycle vigilantes chase stop at one point while one of the motorcyclists tries opening back door where a 2 year old was sitting, then get SUV to stop a minute later (only because of traffic), one motorcyclists dropping bike, then breaking vehicle's driver side window with his helmet, grabbing SUV driver, dragging him out of vehicle, beating and slashing him enough for him to seek emergency medical care. Which innocent people will be spared by "one man's crime [spree]? Please identify which person you believe blame squarely sits on for being responsible for such a horrendous series of events before the motorcycle rally in New York?”
“I would agree IF Republicans worked on repealing the ER act of 1986 that requires Emergency Rooms to treat anyone who shows up regardless of ability to pay for if they have insurance - ER's should not be in the charity business mandated by Government - if Gov't wants the ER's to work for free they should reimburse the ER's.
And I want a law that states if an ER does want to give their services away they can't pass their losses along to me and everyone else in the form of higher prices.
If we wont' want people to get health insurance - those same people can't then expect to be saved for free just because they have a bad bit of luck - after all - that's one of the reasons people have insurance.”
“Just disgusting. The driver should have called police asap and let them know what was happening and stayed on the freeway until a cop could catch up to them and situation.
Falling that too bad they didn't have some guns in the SUV to start shooting the thugs attacking them - I bet if a few of them had been dropped the rest would have thought twice about continuing the attack.”
Blufftonian on Sep 30, 2013 at 16:55:54
“Exactly. He should have stayed on the freeway until police could catch up. Did you notice that as long as he was moving NONE of them wanted to get in front of him? They'd seen what the RR was capable of doing to other bikes! lol”
“Cruz is doing this to solidify his support among the Tea Party and Right Wing Radicals - he doesn't care what happens with Obamacare, nor if he "changes anyone's mind" - he is this to get get air time, print space and for his name to come up as much as possible...
IMHO - the best and "cruelest" way to deal with Cruz would be to stop interviewing him, stop writing articles about him, et al - the thing he would hate the most is being ignored.”
“Do you mean that people now have to go to a Private Health Insurance Company and purchase a health insurance policy so if they get into a serious health issue they will have insurance so when they show up at the ER for help - the rest of us don't have to pay their way when they can't afford to pay the bill?
“The only reason we don't have Single Payer is because employers have offered health care insurance and the people who got it made up a large enough block of the population to be "satisfied" with the system.
While some companies use health care options, among other factors, that lure employees that really is only for companies that have to compete for employees and even then how many companies REALLY want to spend the money on resources to deal with health insurance?
The more companies that stop providing health care options the sooner we'll get to Single Payer.”

I'm old (with a pre-existing condition) and Medicare is the BEST health care coverage I have EVER had - in my 40 plus years working in this country.
“This type of issue is well known in the video game circles, odd that the Apple folks didn't think about it.
But no worries - Apple is certainly provide an update to resolve the issue at some point - only an idiot corporation would live with bad press if they have the ability to solve the problem.”

“Yes! I had to skip out on many early PlayStation titles because the "warbling" effect certain pieces of geometry would have gave me nausea. Usually walls. For those not initiated, sometimes the walls in a game, while appearing solid just fine, seemed to move unnaturally a bit when walking. Think of a wall that has a super slight ripple when you move past it.”

Did you know that even being a part time teacher entails a lot of time outside of the classroom? You do realize that she may have been teaching for quite a bit. Teaching three classes would have her in class a large part of the work week.”

After all, despite the offshoring of millions of American jobs and insourcing of thousands of foreign professionals, the adjunct professor of American Literature should simply take a job on Wall Street. “Honestly before anyone runs out based on this "checklist" - first - throw out everything in house that was not directly picked out of the ground and left in its natural form - or for meat - you just want the meat as it came from the animal.
Start eating natural foods, limit the fats to a moderate amount as they do contain a lot of calories - don't eat a ton of fruits - just eat veggies, lean protein, and some fats - start there and come back in 6 months to see if you really need to worry about out over gut bacteria...”

“Basically, what you're saying, to make it easier, is to stop eating processed/junk foods. By processed, that is stuff in packages like hamburger helper or things like spaghettios.
Meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and so on. Stuff like that. Avoid sugary things, other than fruit.
That's about it. Gut bacteria may be interesting, but to lose weight, stop making excuses about bacteria, and start taking responsibility for eating Toblerones, drinking milk shakes and never getting up off the couch. It's not your gut bacteria, it's the amount of food you are eating and the lack of exercise you are getting.”
