“Us seniors are not going to give up our government run health plan: Medicare. And I doubt that the vets will want to give up their government run plan: the VA.

Those who don't support government health care plans must own stock in these insurance d.e.a.th companies. There is no other way to understand why they would support the misery that these companies inflict on their members.”

“Thank you Senator Nelson! As a senior, that is one reason why I refuse to sign up for Medicare Part D. The requirement is that I buy insurance with a private insurer to get my drug coverage. So, I have to pay them each month to get drugs that I may or may not need. No way will I be part of that sleazy deal to prop up these insurance companies and big pharma.

Stick with it Senator Nelson. It's not just seniors who are behind you on this!”

He must think we are complete idiots to buy his PR BS now.”

“Vitter said t he public option would force insurers to drop coverage. Doesn't he read the news? Aetna dropped 600,000 in the news today to maintain their profits. They don't need a public option to allow them to continue what they're already doing. We need to get rid of ALL private insurers to whom health care insurance is all about profit and not about care. Then, give the American people what many other countries have; single payer.”

“Neither this President or Congress is going to support Main Street. Their pockets are stuffed with the legalized bribes known as campaign contributions. The best hope is to elect an Independent as POTUS in 2012. In June, 1992, Ross Perot led in the polls, ahead of both major parties. He was the wrong messenger, though. The system needed to be shaken to its core. You may ask what a President with no members of his party in Congress can do...PLENTY. Consider the impact one U.S. Senator can make. A President has great powers with their bully pulpit & ability to make executive decisions(Think war, as Congress no longer acts). We now have the Executive & The Hill all under one party control. What do we have but stale mate, with the status quo winning because the Senate has the anti-democratic self-created 60-vote rule. Rep. Alan Grayson has suggested lowering it to 55. That's a good start. Who could be a new & different Perot? The time is ripe for a populist Independent to run.”

Milex replied on Dec 04, 2009 at 15:09:26

“I'm with you on that one. Although I will never be able to vote for a Republican, I will certainly do what I can to get rid of the dead weight in 2010 and 2012. However, I really don't blame Obama. I don't blame him because contrary to public opinion, Barack Obama DOES NOT run this country. Barack Obama is a figurehead. So, that's why we haven't heard anything from him on the public option. He can't do anything. The Congress and Senate tell HIM what to do - not the other way around. The government doesn't care any more about him than they do us. I think our president would be better served if he were just a plain old diplomat. He certainly is diplomatic - with very little backbone - and before you get upset, I voted for him and am speaking as an African American. Just think about it for a second. I know Obama is highly disrespected in this country. So much so, that some of it HAS to be illegal. Don't you think? But at any rate, Obama runs NOTHING. Give the man a break. He's like us - trying to make it through.”

“Why do you assume that there are not liberals in the armed forces? There are many, including many of my relatives. My father, also a liberal, was active for most of his life. The military is not a left/right issue. These young people of all political stripes join the military for various reasons but when it comes to putting their lives on the line, they are there.

Now if you want to look at those who verbalize support of the military but whose actions only cause them harm, look no further than the past administration. How many died for this unnecessary war in Iraq? How many will never lead normal lives because of it? They were sent without adequate armor or equipment. You call that supporting the military? Those chicken-hawks such as Bush and Cheney who led us there should be behind bars.”

“I live in Marin County too and although I'm not wealthy by any means, I love this area. Truly beautiful.

The sad thing is that there is a national minimum wage which does nothing to help those who work here in retail, etc.

Most salaries are higher though as the cost of living for housing is through the roof. Even with the housing market crash, it is difficult to purchase a home in this area for anything under $500,000. That said, my children were raised here and this is where I'm staying.”
