“You call me ignorant. Well I think it's the ultimate ignorance to use landmines that kill innocent human beings. And it takes no research to understand that.”

Berettasskeeter replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 12:02:01

“Landmines have a definite, positive, use: to protect our troops and to deny areas to enemy forces. Cars kill innocent human beings. Shall we ban them?

“All it proves to me is the United States as never really cared about killing innocent people. Therefore, it will kill them again if they simply WANT to!”

“What nonsense!! Their use is to protect our forces, and nothing more or less. The US has been transitioning to smart mines for 20 years, and has rid itself of most of its dumb mines. Please do your research before revealing your ignorance.

“I've NEVER cared a hoot what goes on with adults, but when I learn that they have young children I hope that one of Dante's levels in hell awaits them . As a retired teacher, who was also an advisor for troubled kids, up to 50%of their problems were broken homes, dysfunctional families, and divorce. Obama's money won't patch up the children's pain, and society often pays the bill later.”

Finally leading to massive corruption as the Military Industial Complex formed a cabal with certain corperations and took over the entire banking and money systems. “Forget the situation here; it's simply maddness when grown men "can't" subdue a 10yr old boy. I have taught for 20yrs, some of it with boys ages 9-14 , When dealing with them when they were out of control, I NEVER once would have needed a stun gun! These kinds of actions by cops is why they lose respect.

No wonder foreigners visiting our shores are scared to death of our police. I had an English Professor from England relay that exact sentiment to me. Yet another example of the militarization of our police forces...a shame on our nation.”

Police put their lives on the line in order to ensure an ordered society, and they should not have to increase their odds of getting hurt or kiIIed. Blame the parents who raised a kid out of control enough to physically attack police officers.”

“Free market capitalism has always and will always tend toward oligopolies and monopolies, which are in turn intrinsically anti-competitive. What's more, since the 1950's we have known that free economic systems COMMONLY GENERATE NON-OPTIMAL OUTCOMES - the study of this is called "game theory." Anyone who pretends that unrestrained free-market capitalism can be relied upon to generate optimal or efficient outcomes ignores both history and theory.

Unrestrained capitalism would be both an economic and social disaster. Not even Sachs calls for that.”

“If a country is reduced to finding out if a policy will work requires an increase in body-bags, and the killing of innocent AFGHAN children and women, then that county is diaboolical and deserves the condemnation of humanity. America's leaders have lost all sense of morality and intelligence if their primary sucess in the world is measured by the fact that stopping a war is a sign of weakness, and that the American people would rather they went down in a bloodbath. Any pundit and politician who supports such a view should be handed a gun and a one way ticket to the most violent fighting place in Afghanistan.”

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 10:38:22 in Politics

“Mr. Brenner, for years I have clearly understood the nature of an EMPIRE'S need for war--as a quote says," War is the health of the state." Also several readings of and term papers on 1984, leave me in full intellectual understanding of the final results. My question is---Why is it that so few of the MEDIA's top Journalists see the obvious? My reading of today's columns finds only you and Bob Herbert who see the intellectual and ethical failing in Obama's decison"? It may sound arrogant , but the vast majority of the PUBLIC remain in the grasp of Orwellian Newspeak, and ACADEMIA is impotent. So, while it lasts, the country's survival and freedom is in the hands and minds of a free press who will courageously speak the TRUTH to POWER!----The power of the pen can only be stopped if you refuse to pick it up.”

“All the Obamatrons against the senseless war of Bush's are gung ho when a Dem President wastes their tax dollars on a war that will cripple the recovery here at home.

Perhaps Afghanistan would have made sense after 9/11 but that time, a million lives and a trillion dollars wasted in Iraq has gone.In addition our horrendous economic collapse another non defensive war a burden we can't bear. You want war ,Obama? - march to Wall St!

The Karzai regime is corrupt and there will be no government to hand the reins over to, which means unless we want to occupy Afghanistan forever ,this so called limited engagement is nothing more throwing away lives and dollars for political posturing.”

Afghanistan: Obama Drops The Other Shoe

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 09:30:58 in Politics

“Why is it so hard (maybe it's fear) for the media to call Obama a LIAR and a HYPOCRITE when it's a public record, since he chose to run, that he would END the war?”

onenation replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 09:50:50

“He did not say he would simply END the Afghanistan action. He did say he would end Iraq, and that is in process. He said the Afghanistan action was "necessary", not as defined and ignorantly botched by Cheney/Rumey. Cheney is still protecting HIS 1990's decision to CUT AND RUN after the Soviets got out. Then they were convinced it was easy to "win" an Afghanistan action. That set up the Afghanistan as a failed state for history to write leading up till a regime change and an adult taking charge this year.”
