“Great comment, and I would add that it's time to stop putting issues such as same-sex marriage to a popular vote. In Europe, marriages must be done as civil unions, and then, if the couple desires, they are married in a religious ceremony. Marriage as a civil union between two consenting adults is a civil right, and believe me, if civil rights for minorities such as African-Americans or Native Americans had been put to a popular vote in the not-so-distant past, that would have been voted down, just as same-sex marriage has been. The concept is called "tyranny of the majority" and it's not right!”

“Every time Frank Schaeffer is on Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, I wonder why he doesn't have a show of his own. He presents his arguments so well, and when he talks about the evangelical right-wingers and their effects on politics, he is certainly knowledgeable from his first-hand experiences.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those evangelical preachers to come out against the kind of activities that Frank Schaeffer so eloquently described--they (the preachers) might lose their primary source of funding.
