“You present a false choice, it isn't government or insurance company control there is the best approach progressives choose to ignore, consumer control through the free market. A freer market, with less government control, less competition blocking regulations and hugely increased competition and the resulting consumer control would greatly improve the health care system.”

“a universal medicare buy-in would cover us all at a reasonable cost - lack of government control has not produced competition - the few big private insurances run a monopoly nation wide - they control smaller units with other names - no one bargains with them - lets them pay physicians less, cover fewer sick people, charge whatever they want, - Repeal of Glass Steagall in the financial world was supposed to invigorate that sector by de-regulating- how's that working out for you? Take a couple of years to study markets and economics before you post”

“So as we approach the final Democrat legislation for health care reform, obamacare, it turns out not to be reform at all. Rather strict regulation and control of health care by the Democrats through a form of corporatist economic planning in which the legal forms of private ownership of industry are nominally preserved but in which both the public and capitalists are obliged to submit their plans and objectives to state regulation and extensive wage and price controls, which are designed to insure the priority of the political leadership's objectives over the private economic interests of the citizens. So under obamacare health care markets are allowed to operate only in a non-competitive, cartelized, and governmentally "rigged" fashion empowering politicians, eliminating competition and guarantying profits for a protected industry.”

“CIA employees should immediately stop flying all drone attack missions. It is time for all these drone pilots to refuse obama's orders to commit any more illegal unlawful executions. If I were a CIA officer involved in Predator drone strikes. I would know obama would not back me up in case of an indictment in a European court. Or that it would not take steps to ensure, once the Obama administration ends, that its officials would be protected from future prosecutions, by sending out an unambiguous message that no American administration, Democratic or Republican, will tolerate such moves against American officials.
The international community regards drone strikes as
* (a) extrajudicial executions and murder by any other name;
* (b) American cowardice in using technological superiority to avoid having to take personal risks to confront its targets;
* (c) a reason why America’s enemies hide out among noncombatant human shields, with the result that the Americans “force” their enemies to violate the laws of war; and
* (d) an invitation for the United States to use violence as a tool of frequent convenience because it does not have its personnel at personal risk (rather than seeing these advances in technology as humanitarian steps forward over a quarter century to increase discrimination in targeting, and rather than seeing that not having its people at risk allows the targeting to proceed on a more methodical basis, rather than in-out with greater, rather than lesser, pressure to act in the moment),”

The only reason why we haven't heard about more innocents being killed by US attacks is some of thsoe attacks were called off because someone didn't like the "bad guys to innocents" ratio. It may be bad PR, but it is legal. (One of the many glaring contradictions of wars!)”

“Under obamacare all Americans will have to pay large and growing premiums to our existing private insurance companies. It then prohibits those companies from charging people differently based on their health, age, and the like, which means they will just charge everyone more. The bill has some subsidies to help people who can't pay their premiums, but that just means that most Americans will be paying the insurance companies more and more for premiums both as individual health insurance customers and as taxpayers. The bill is basically a massive subsidy to the insurers -- it is not a reform of the system.
True reform would make the system freer and more competitive, obamacare does the opposite.”

“"Freer and more competitive"?!?!?! You mean like cable and wireless phone companies? That's a joke. Health insurance companies want nothing to do with competition and will collude to continue their guaranteed money making machine. How many health insurance companies have you heard about going bankrupt during this recession? The only way to try and keep them honest is a government run health insurance plan as an option. And the BS about the government run plan putting private insurance companies out of business is just that...BS! If I am going to be forced to buy a plan then I want the government option. I own a small business and my health insurance premiums have doubled over the past 5 years while at the same time my out of pocket expenses have gone up. Is my Doctor any better? No. Are the prescriptions somehow more effective? No. Do they make my Doctor's job easier? No. Do they still try to weasel out of paying for things? Hell yeah! Then what the hell am I paying more for? Stock holders, bonuses, those retarded commercials and money to pay off congress to shunt health care reform.
The only other option besides a government run plan is to force all Health Insurance companies to become non-profit.”
