“They see it. It's why they do it. They just make their usual show of refusing to take responsibility and playing professional victims when they get caught doing it. That gives them the airtime distraction from important things while they think up the next crap to throw.

They're the monkeys here. Ever see the poo flinging monkeys at a zoo? They're always flinging that poo. That's all the Right has to fight with - flinging poo. So they fling it and fling it, and just wait for some poo to stick somewhere so they can make monkey screeches about it. And then, they fling more poo.”

“You must be young. They did it to Eleanor Roosevelt, and they did it to Hilary.

Hey, Hilary was an ugly, lesbian, murderer. They're just warming up on Michelle - so far, they're still on her looks, and how she dresses, and how she spends. Wait. Pretty soon they'll get into attacking her sexuality and her children.

The Right attacks women based on their prejudices against all women; looks, sex, family. They can't attack her beliefs, they don't know them - and finding out would be too much like work - so they'll go for the easy sexist stuff.”

You know, the one where she had just paredoned a Thankisgiving turkey and then gave an interview in front of turkeys being decpitated and deblooded while Palin obliviously blathers on with her fake gee-golly-gosh country girl act.”

“Yeah, I also remember the Photoshopped pictures of Bush with a halo and a cross in the background that the WH released. And I remember people wearing tshirts or having bumberstickers that were critical of Bush and getting arrested and strip searched for it.

I remember the national crusade by the Right to destroy some singers who were critical of Bush - and they didn't even threaten violence. Now the Right is arming themselves, and talking secession and revolution - and you want to claim some kind of parity? That's rich.

What I don't remember is people showing up at Bush rallies armed with loaded semis and carrying threatening signs next to the pictures that display Obama as a monkey, or a witch doctor. Hell, Bush was afraid of bumberstickers.

What;s your point?”

Our current president has already been displayed in far more offensive ways - and he hasn't even let the country be caught with it's guard down and attacked by terrorists yet, or started an illegal war, or ignored the people who attacked us, or sucked up to the theocratic dictatorships behind the attack against us, or let an American city be destroyed while he partied.

This is the best you can do, say Liberals did it first? Did your mom let you get away with that kind of lame rationalization? Do you losers ever take responsibility for your own actions?”

“People of low consciousness cannot see anything better than what they believe of themselves. When they sense someone is more accomplished in any way than they are, they do whatever they can to tear that person down to their level, or below.

If their target is a woman, that means attacking her looks, her sexuality, or her children.

To consider that someone they are predisposed to hate may be a better person than they are makes them so viscerally uncomfortable that they become angry and lash out.

You right-wing losers are so predictable in your lame hatred.”

“Ahh, yes, "white guilt", the canard of the racist.

"White guilt" is a phrase used by racists to display hostility and refuse to acknowledge their own racism. Because real Whites should never feel guilty, should they? Winning means never having to say you're sorry, right? Conquerers don't apologize.

That's why you racists are so freaked out about losing the majority - you're deathly afraid that you'll be treated the same way the minorities were treated. It was fine when whites were on the oppressing end, wasn't it?

Fortunately for you racists, the hate-based world you live in is fading away. When whites are no longer the majority, you'll still be safe, you won't be put in chains. You won't be treated the way minorities were traditionally treated. The rest of us have moved past that paradigm because it stinks of hatred, fear and desperation. We don't want anything to do with your racism. And, a lot of us, like me, are white.

This isn't about white guilt - it's about human feelings; empathy, consideration, respect.”

“Unless you are less than a few days old, these things did not happen before you existed. The poster did not say slavery, only racism and brutality. Are you living in some alternate reality where those no longer exist? Because they are very real, and they are happening all over the country - today.

If you're one of those who thinks that you have nothing to do with racism because you don't see it, then you are an accomplice to that racism. Just cause you decide not to acknowledge something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Silence is complicity.”

“What nonsense.

She just as easily could be tough as nails and never get sick. When I was a kid in Michigan - shortly before the Civil War started - we went barefoot from the first thaw to the first freeze. We never wore coats unless it was freezing or we were forced to.

This kid looks healthy, she never has a runny nose, or red eyes, or any other sign of sickness. She's a kid, not a hothouse flower.”

“Seriously, everyone's acting like the kid's going to suddenly drop from pneumonia. If she's cold, her mom's going to see her shivering. It's an involuntary reflex. Also, she's in New York, not hiking in Vermont! For all we know, this is the five-minute walk to the heated restaurant down the road from their apartment!

I'll bet these worrywarts are the same people who keep the thermostat hiked up to 80 all through the winter. Get another blanket, you wimps! Invest in slippers! Talk to an English father like I have, and you'll quickly realize children can survive a Dickensian approach to home heating.”

“And how many people are they willing to see die while they deliberately dither?

You gotta be impressed by their sociopathic narcissism: To them, Obama is dithering because he won't hurry and dump more American bodies down the black holes of Bush's catestrophic "wars", (if by "wars" you mean one for-profit invasion of a country which was no threat to us, and another which has been used as a half-hearted attempt to make a show of trying to catch Osama and Al Queda while, in reality, giving them cover to hide in Pakistan and regroup so that there can be both permanent war and a diversion for the guilty parties who started the first unnecessar war), but the Republicans have no problem "dithering" as long as possible to kill any hope for millions of Americans to be able to see a doctor when they are sick.

Either way, death from war or death from lack of health care, Republicans do not care about the Americans who die because of the Republican agenda of eternal war for eternal profit.

They are showing who they are and how they are prepared to dither all the way to our funerals. But, hey, they've got theirs.”

“OK, if your tax dollars don't prop up the housing market, what do you think they'll be paying for? Food lines or pauper's cemetaries? Exactly what are you thinking a burst economic bubble means? Life without dining out? What do you think a Depression would do to your life?

Besides, so far, your taxes are just going to make the uber-rich richer, not prop up the housing market. If it was going to the housing market, we wouldn't be here now.

And if you can't buy in this market, there's something else going on - like your credit isn't all that great. I'm putting lower middle class people in affordable houses that are ridiculously good deals - with the tax credit and down payment assistance to help them with affordibility.

Are you assuming you can't buy right now? Have you talked to anyone about what it would take for you to qualify?”

bbrecht replied on Nov 21, 2009 at 13:18:30

“I dont mind my taxes being used as a safety net to help the down and out. I do mind my taxes being used to bail out the rich and richer.

We are propping up the housing market -- prices are overly inflated, regulators should have never let things get this out of control and now instead of letting prices deflate they are pumping more money in--

We need to get away from bubble mentality. No bubble can stay inflated indefinitely.

We are just prolonging the inevitable.”

“One thing I am seeing that truly disturbs me is a new requirement that is cropping up in increasing numbers. This requirement is that anyone wanting to simply offer a contract to purchase a home - not to get financing, mind you, just to make an offer - must first supply all their personal information to the seller's bank or mortgage co.

Including W-2s, paystubs, SSN's, address, phone, permission to pull credit - all the personal info you should never hand out to a stranger is now being required to be handed over to one real estate agent to hand over to another real estate agent to hand over to another person you don't know. And this is just to submit a contract.

There is no accountability, no one is taking responsibility if your identity ends up stolen. The banks have declared that they want the power to demand that anyone qualify for a mortgage from them before they will even consider an offer.
The banks are demanding what they want - again - and demanding that there be no oversight or accountibility.

Now, when people's identities get hacked or stolen - will we blame the person trying to offer a contract to buy a house and let the banks off again?

Sure. Why not. Easier to blame the little guy.”

“Don't you love the "blame the victim" mentality. Never mind the lies told to consumers. Never mind the looting and pillaging the banks are doing. Never mind the fact that the banks set this failure up as if it were a giant row of dominos.

Never mind all that - it's the homeowners' fault.

Anyone who wants to blame the homeowners really ought to take the time and follow the money.

Several years back, the banks wanted deregulation so they could get into the real estate business, but it was not allowed. Now, the banks own the real estate market. I am a real estate agent in Florida. Virtually every property I have dealt with in the last two years is either a short sale or a foreclosure - normal sales are almost non-existent.

That means the banks are in charge of every transaction - and, believe me, they are making up their own rules as they go along.”

“Congratulations. Sensibly acquiring properties is still one of the best ways to acquire wealth. And if you're doing that on an income of 80K, you're doing something right.

Are you really with banks instead of credit unions? If so, consider switching to a credit union. You should have an industry related credit union.

Take your info on your properties to a few credit unions and see who will give you the best deal. Shop around. Show them that you are up to date and solvent but want a better deal.

Banks are owned by someone else who profits off of your money. Credit unions are owned by you and the other members. Members share the profitability by receiving better rates and deals.”
