“I'm kind of thinking that's the message of his visit.

And I'm kind of thinking he's going to go out of the box on a solution - no big escalation or complete withdrawal. I think he'll go for a middle ground approach to descalate the violence immediately to save lives in the short run, and then a multi-faceted approach to extricate us without sending the whole Middle East into a flame out.

The problem isn't whether the Afghanis will go along with this - the problem is the American right-wing military industrial complex, you know, the gang Cheney is a lobbying for - they'll see that as an attack on their bottom line. And I wouldn't put it past them to engage in terrorism just to keep the defense money flowing.....I would love to be wrong about that, but, well, I don't think I am.

The Right has a long and bloody history of conflating war and business, and there certainly is ample precedent of them starting trouble to get the blood and the money flowing.”

“Has it not occured to you that this may be President Obama's way of responding to those on the Right, like Cheney, who accuse him of taking too long to decide.

I see this as a way to remind his critics that throwing 40,000 more troops into Afghanistan will mean more caskets coming back to Dover - so, before we commit to burying more of our children, maybe we should stop and remind ourselves of exactly what that means.

Less than 2% of Americans serve in the military - a little reminder of the price they pay is definitely in order, don't you think?

Take a look at what the families of the fallen are seeing, and then weigh the costs of further action.”

“Thank you for your service and your words.

Thank you for my son, who is a Marine. Thank you for one of his best friends, who I have known since he was 6 and who is a 22 yr old Army Ranger who just returned from Afghanistan with a Purple Heart.

I am hoping from the depths of my heart that this is President Obama's way of telling us all that there are other important considerations in what course of action he decides to take in Afghanistan - and some of them just came home last night, for the last time.

I never want to hear another President say that we must keep sacrificing more of our bravest to honor those who have already sacrificed thier lives. I think the best way to honor them may be to say, "enough".”

How do you show respect without making an issue out of it? I don't know the right answer, but showing up at 4am with the press doesn't bode well for me. I hope I'm wrong.”

The "teabaggers" identified themselves that way. It wasn't until they found out the more common cultural reference that the revisionist history started.

Remember all the teabags they wore? They called themselves teabaggers. Now, rather than acknoweldge the truth and move on, you, as a typical winger, will make up lies and then manufacture indignation when anyone busts you on your dishonesty.

If you can't even tell the truth about that, why should anyone give you ANY credibility about important things?”

“Ummm, I hate to be a downer, but, for the uninsured, any idea what it costs to get any of these tests he refers to?

How much to get tested for heavy metals or celiac disease?

What will a work-up by a functional medicine doctor who can help you address autoimmunity run? Thousands?

It ain't cheap.

In fact, it's so expensive that it is not even a consideration for most people.

Let's keep it real, shall we?”

bigorangefish replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 13:16:35

“I don't think you really need the tests. Eating plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, is what every person should do and that should take care of many illnesses - and it's supposedly how you 'detox' anyways, because it restores the health of your body's natural detoxification system - the kidneys, etc... having your metal fillings isn't a bad idea either. My dentist told me that I didn't have to have my metal fillings replaced several years ago, but now he no longer uses metal fillings......so without saying so, the dental community is changing to non-metal/mercury fillings.”

“65 years is not rushing.

And trying to portray passing health care against total Republican obstructionism is a straw man arguement by the obstructionists, whose words you are now mindlessly mouthing.

If it was so critical to take the time and "get it right", why did the obstructionists do absolutely nothing every time they had a majority? Why did they NEVER try to do anything at all about health care?

Because they don't want to. They have their health care and lots of cash to keep denying it to everyone else, which is all they've done.

They, and you, have absolutely NO credibility now to suggest that this is being "rushed", when in truth those who are screeching the loudest about rushing are those who want nothing at all to be done.”

“Boy, do I agree with you! I believe the vast majority of us are in the middle and want solutions we can live with and get ahead with.

I knew when I voted for Obama that he is not as far to the Left as I know I am. In fact, he is a much more pragmatic middle of the road person than most give him credit for - and that is what really scares the crap out of the powers that be on the Right.

They know that Obama could actually get things done that might pull this country away from being a profit-driven corporatist state, and that would affect their bottom lines. So they will do anything, ANYthing, including fomenting violence, to stop him.

I'm just disappointed in the number of idiots willing to parrot anything they hear Limbaugh or Beck or Hannity say. It would be different if these men actually had a philosophy they espoused, but they don't. It's all hyperbolic drivel.

Ask one of the teabaggers to define communism, or socialism, or facism, or any of the isms they claim to be so frightened of - and they can't. They're only mindlessly repeating what they're told. That's really disappointing.

Thank you for your thoughtful post.”

“See there is hope for us yet. But you will be disappointed to learn that I did not vote for our President due to his associations with Rev. Wright, William Ayers, Acorn and others. I also felt that he lacked in the necessary expieriance for the position.
I also agree with much of what the teabaggers stand for. And I can tell you that I feel that the isms that we dread mean lack of opportunity, loss of our freedom to speak freely, we will not be allowed to live we we want any longer as we will be sent to where the state needs us. There will be more state driven thought. I believe the isms will bring wealth redistribution and allow for even more government corruption than we already have. That what progressives term "class warfare" will become a reality. We only need to look at isms of the past to realize what the isms of the future hold.
That being said, we need to make the government much more people oriented and much less corporate driven. We need to make the politicians understand that it is thier constituents that they work for and not the lobbyists.
We may not agree on the the way to solve the problems, but we must stop the infighting and work towards a remedy within the framework of the constitution.
Thank you for taking the time to hear me out.”

“Being a paid corporate spokesperson is not the same as a citizen using their right to Free Speech. How is it you don't get that? Fox is a foreign owned corporation spending millions to influence our government, Color of Change is a non-profit Amerian organization. Are you so blind or so ignorant you don't understand that?

I don't care if Glenn Beck get to speak his mind, but, let's face it, without a wealthy foreigner supporting him, he'd be yelling on a street corner.

By the way, it takes either a lot of balls or a lot of ignorance to say, "His, (Jones), radical racist views are extremely disturbing" and not mention the truly hateful, racist, inflammatory, unpatriotic drivel that Beck spews every day at the behest of his foreign boss.

“Freedom of speech! Freedom of speech!!

Listen, Brainiac, Freedom of Speech is an INDIVIDUAL right, not a corporate one. Beck is speaking as a corporate employee, not an individual. If he ever said anything his corporate boss did not like, he'd find out exactly how limited his freedom is if he wants to bloviate in front of the corporate owned cameras.

Of course he'll find sponsors - it's profit-driven corporations which are paying for the town hall howlers and the rest of the traveling fringe festival that's making all the noise across the country. They'll keep supporting Beck as long as their bottom lines warrant it. The minute it looks like their profits are taking a hit, Beck will have the same Freedom of Speech you and I have - he'll be able to post on blogs as much as his preening ego wants.”

“"Neither side can ignore the other half"

Agreed, but that isn't what's happening. Well over half want health care, including a single payer option. Well under half, a very well-funded, very small minority, are using every deceitful lie and bullying technique they can to get their way. It isn't "a large portion of this country", that "is vehemently opposed to those ideas", it is the antithesis of democracy; a small, over-vocal, intimidating, threatening group of bullies, funded by the profiteers, who are trying to force minority rule on all of us.

Unfortunately, the other side has already declared war on us. They have already murdered, they will not stop until they are stopped. They are willing to do anything to get their way, they have no respect for this country and no understanding or concern for the Constitution.

The first thing we have to do is really understand what we are up against. This worries me too, because I understand how very little respect the Right has for anything other than themselves. There is no love of country, only greed, prejudice and hatred.

It will be our downfall if we underestimate the evil they are willing to do to get their way. These are not just sore losers, unwilling to get over the lost election. These are fanatics, and everything but their profit and comfort is expendable, including you, if it will get them their way.

Better come to terms with that, because they have already armed themselves.”

Not a mistake, not shades of grey - and outright lie. That is why you people on the left are pathetic pieces of s**t and will lose in the end - because you think the end justifies the means which makes you morally and ethically bankrupt and completely undeserving of any respect or consideration for your views.”
