“No there wasnt your correct. But its a matter of him making it public knowledge that he doesnt like a specific group which is creating a hostile or uncomfortable environment. And quite honestly the comment he made for his employer to fire him could be labeled as misconduct and a terminable offence. It not what he says that bothers me as much because I know you will always have people who dont share the same views. From a legal stand point he could be terminated for making his views public which do not comply with his employers policys.”

“Im not aguring the fact that he has the right to his opinion. Let me explain universities that accept federal funds must follow guidelines and certain laws. If this man worked for a private university they may or may not have rules pertaining to sexual orentation. So it may be acceptable for him to protest or speak his view. another example the boys scouts of america forbids lgbt communtity to participate. They have ever right to do so because they are not federally funded. If the recieved govenment funds they would be required to follow the law and it would require them to allow Lgbt to participate. Why well because they are taxpayers and the a guranteed equal and fair acess to government funded programs. As for your comment of a lgbt memeber protesting if they were at a christian college or private and they didnt have sexual orientation policy or laws yes they could be terminated and have been. In fact the majortity of employers can terminate anyone who is lgbt unless there is a state or local law providing protection. On another not unless you fall under one of any of the protected clauses an employer may terminate you. For example if they dont like your personalitity, maybe your a smoker, or you just dont fit their image they can terminate you. This is the term employee at will. If you read a application you will see you may terminate your employment at any time and your employer”

“I read a study on that as well and one on psyc of how perception affects people reaction. Some of its instinct. when someones exposed to something negative its instinct to avoid it and your get a negative reaction. Its a matter breaking that cycle. Its just like for example when a person is cheated on. They begin to have a trust issue and puts everyone in the same box. The mind is amazing good and bad. Its a matter of how you manage life.”

“Sexual orientation is a protected class at all federally funded universitys. And religion actually stops at your employers door. And the same works in his favor if someone makes unwarranted sexual advances at him they can be fired or removed from the school. Truly if all people followed the schools rules this would not even be an issue.”

“Actually his contract with his employer prohibits him to voice his religious views while at work. Also I might mention they have a policy that he cannot publicly speak against any school policy. While he may in church he cannot voice his religious or personal beliefs at any school related event. Also for example he cannot post it on facebook because its considered public. Being employed by the school his is considered a school representitive. He knew this when employed if he choses not to follow it he should apply elsewhere. He could apply at a private school. As this is a public school and recieves public funds this policy applys. They have no problem with him being a christian he's just not allowed to apply them at work or publicly. Privately he may do what he wishes”

The Great Intellectual on Apr 27, 2012 at 18:22:33

“Oh so School Officials can protest and speak publicly for things they belief in as long at it is not religious based or I guess Right Wing based correct? So I take it is OK for a teacher to attend a LGBT rally and speak out for the LGBT cause but it is wrong for a teacher to express their Religious beliefs publicly? That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. He has the Right to protest laws he doesn't agree with just like pro LGBT teachers have the right to push for laws. It is his right as a American citizen. Who gets to determine which topics Teachers can advocate for or not in their public life?”

“Im not so sure while I see your point nobody can hide the color of their skin. In either given situation would the person be comfortable to be around a person whom they know clearly doesnt like them for who they are. We cant change the color of our skin anymore than a gay person can change whom they love. No matter how we look at it when we cut someone we all bleed red. If he doesnt like a gay person he doesnt have to date one. At the same time he shouldnt flatter himself thinking gays are checking him out. My point is his employer has policy's which he knew about when he was employed. This also states he may not make public statements against his employers policy. He agreed to this when he was employed. Now if he so choses to associate with gays in private life that's his bussiness.”

Around the time of Moses (well we know what happens when your inbreed). Also, the tradition of brother/sister or father/daughter marriages was mostly confined to the royalty of Egypt, at least until the Greek period. But lets not forget they got Lot intoxicated and basically raped him so I think lots wife turned into salt after the daughters fornicated with him. I know most mothers would or would want to after that scene.”

“If you look up Nebraska's employment policy he's in voilation of employment policys. And as such it clearly states he could be terminated. And yes this can extend to publicly stating his personal views on his time as it is represetitive of his employer. While he may have his own opinion it is a violation of policy if he makes his opinions public. He is completely aware of this policy as when he was employed he had to sign the contract he would follow policy or be terminated.”

Aloha and Roll Tide on Apr 27, 2012 at 06:56:41

“I read through the policy and did not note any provision that the coach is violating. While his comments may not be agreeable to everyone, they do not constitute discrimination (the original assertion of this thread). The criteria of discrimination isn't based on the spoken word; it's based on actions/behaviors/ treatment from an individual(s) toward another individual or group, none of which was evident in the video or in the article. Again, exercising free (or institution prohibited) speech doesn't constitute discrimination.”
