“Actually Lindon Johnson succumbed to some serious arm twisting. Bobby Kennedy, who was in congress did alot of that arm twisting . This is documented on very interesting public audiotapes from those years. they are infact in the public record if anyone wants to study up. Let's try not to distort history.
Quite frankly I find it hard to believe that Clinton supporters should be so irate. Characterizing her statement as merely a nod to Johnson instead of the diminishment of MLK is total Clinton spin . The consistent message and tact that they have been working is that charisma and rhetoric is not enough, a strong leader with connections is needed to get anything done. The Obama campaign is rightfully keeping track of this message where it interacts with race especially with primary races where there is a large AA population involved. They need to respond to these attacks like any campaign would. It is just his luck that she made these comments right before the MLK holiday when people will be remembering how powerful charisma and rhetoric can be and realize that a strong leader with connections and bipartisan support such as Obama can really do alot more for the country than the tired old negative "poor me", "everyone is against me" Clinton trap.”

“You are so wrong.
JFK didn't succeed in getting anti-racism legislation passed because he didn't have the political clout that LBJ had with the Congress - and he didn't have the fire in his belly that Johnson did. LBJ didn't need pushing to get him to act. He was an ardent New Dealer and he was very sensitive to discrimination because he started out as a teacher of very poor Latino children in South Texas.
I lived through the era we're talking about, and I remember if well. MLK was a great prophet and LBJ was his political arm. It was LBJ who persuaded Everett Dirksen (Senate Minority Leader) to get enough Republicans to vote for the legislation. He told Dirksen that he needed the votes to prevail, and that the enactment of Civil Rights legislation was an idea whose time had come. LBJ and the Democrats enacted MLK's great dreams into law at great personal and political cost. Hillary Clinton's remarks should not offend anyone, unless they choose to be offended.
Obama and his campaign are the ones playing the race card, which not only hurts the party - it hurts the country, too. It's Obama who has thrust this race into dangerous waters with possible long-term consequences.

We supported him and Hillary through their crisis but enough is enough already. They are questionable rolemodels because of that whole fiasco as anyone with children can tell you. Loyalty will only be advanced so far . " Fool me once" etc.”

“Your ignorance is showing. I believe even the repugs wouldn't dare say the "War on Islam". Even they call it the "War on Terror"even though most of the terror has come from them. By the way Edwards is "against" attacks on Muslim countries too. If you are looking to attack Muslims you will probably have to join some neonazi party. Take your fight to some other planet please!!!”

“Okiemon, go post your troll pictures on some other site. I can tell you I've been losing money from my funds for months. This "stock market is down" strategy may work for the intellectually and financially challenged but most of us recognize that the repugs told us their tax cuts would improve the economy and invasion of Iraq would secure oil prices. The stock market has been Bear since 9/11 and will be that way until we do something about the myriad domestic problems that have piled up since the debacle of Iraq and Bush/ Cheney tanking of the federal government which the Clinton's ie: Mainstream Democrat/Corporate alliance have done nothing to quell.”

“Actually the country has been in a recession since before 9/11. If obama is the dem nominee he will be destroyed by the neocons. I'll vote for him though even though most of the obama fanatics on this site would not vote for hillary and therein lies the problem.”

“Unfortunately, Hillary has slowly become part of the machine. This machine is not a republican only club. If you are really interested in what Obama " stands for" perhaps you should research his backround, read his books listen to his speeches. Try to keep an open mind and you might be able to see. I once had high hopes for Hillary and she has had her chance to deliver. she hasn't. It is time for her to step aside.”

As a life long Democrat I am sick of negative cynicism and long for the youth of this country to rise up and take over the reigns of freedom, restore sound judgement in foreign policy, bring back respect for the constitution and turn their back on our recent devisive past.”

“I think the issue is that someone was able to get those young and first time Iowans out to caucus. If they came out to caucus which requires some dedication , they will surely be back to vote in the general election. The superior organizing and mostly enthusiasm of the Obama campaign goes along way to motivate supporters. It's negative, cynical people who advance "little secrets " that turn these new enthusiastic voters off.”

Yeah. because they are all college students whom Obama bussed in to fix the caucus.
It's easy to get them out to vote when you only have to slip them a $20. won't work in the general though.”

“Obama scores on this by pointing out that only 6% of the population makes over $90,000. We all know that even salaries up to $200,000 are not alot in today's economy . Only the very rich maybe 1% of the population is immune from the total bankruptcy that could happen with a sudden illness or job loss. It is in the upper class best interest for the rest of us to think we are so much better off than those "poor people" say people with income less than $40,000 and for the "poor people" to think that someone with a $80,000 is doing great. It keeps us divided just like fighting about gender or race or immigration status does. That way we won't pay attention to where the billions of dollars we sent to Iraq went. The sad news here is that 94% of the people in this country make less than $90,000 and congress just passed a bill a couple of days ago to give Bush 50 billion more dollars for the disasterous effort in Iraq.”

“You are all too sensitive about this gender issue. This election should be about the issues. Whether you are supporting
Clinton because you agree with her on the issues or because she is a woman that is your perogative. However accusing people who don't support her of being sexist is ludricrous and counterproductive. If you want to promote gender equality I would avoid sexist comments about keeping men around to open jars etc. You are just sinking to a lower level of discourse. You are just pissing people off which doesn't help Hillary's image anymore than her own playing of the gender card.”

I like what Biden has to say but I'll never forget how he folded at the Clarence Thomas hearings and refused to call the women who would have backed Anita Hill. Result? A dreadful, bitter, partisan Supreme Court Justice Thomas.”

“I have never been so invested either. For Barack Obama, who had the foresight and good judgement to foresee the disaster that is Iraq. Because Hillary was unable to predict what most experts on the subject foresaw ,I don't think she is the best candidate for President. She also has tremendous amounts of baggage which makes her the best target for Republicans. She is a divisive figure who is an excellent Senator. I hope she stays that way.”

“And I see it as Hillary's vote to authorize our POTUS to do what is necessary to protect our country. We inherently count on our President to make those high level security decisions for us. That is their job.
That Bush abused his powers, lied and took us to war KNOWING the facts were a farce, does not mean every POTUS in our future will do the same.
We will have to trust again. And we will want our President to have all tools necessary.
And THAT is the argument we will have with the Republicans in 2008. Hillary is well poised to argue Democrats are not weak on defense.
You all have to get your wide lenses on. See the bigger picture.”

“This was also reflected in the type of questions , the lack of balanced time to each candidate and the poorly screened audience. I think they are trying to set us up for a sickening Hillary vs. Rudy show/ campaign where they let them argue about who is more of a corrupt egomaniac and totally avoid any real issues. It makes their job easier if they stay away from policy talk which is boring and requires them to do some actual research in order to provide commentary. Besides real government policy is probably not good for ratings. Better for them if either Hillary or Rudy wins then they can spend the next 4 years reporting on all their unethically behavior from the past.”
