“When China was accepted into the World Trade Organization, they agreed that if we experienced import surges of Chinese goods that caused “market disruption,” we would be allowed to limit the import of those goods. The particular section of the agreement is called “Section 421.”

When the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) determines that the level of imports from China cause or threaten to cause market disruption to American producers of competitive products, it proposes a remedy that can include quotas or other relief. The President of the United States then makes a decision whether to enforce that recommendation.

President Bush repeatedly (seven times) refused to enforce Section 421 even when our own ITC found that American companies, factories and jobs were being lost. Bush claimed at the time that the destructive effects of dramatic, sudden increases in Chinese imports that Section 421 was meant to mitigate were actually good for the U.S. economy. Bush’s policy was the opposite of “protectionism” — it actually favored China’s companies over our own! (I think we’ve seen how that has worked out.)

If that's true then that means that conservatives watch Fox News and liberals are split between CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS.

Fox likes to constantly tell you they have the most popular shows. However, Bill O'Reilly's numbers aren't even in the same league as those Brian Williams gets on NBC. His show can't even come close to the numbers on 60 Minutes or Dateline.

What Fox has is a successful network. They get a huge percentage of one demographic. That's it. The rest of us choose between networks not telling us all what we want to hear just to draw us to them. Thus, this apples to oranges comparison has never made any impact on me.”

“It's the other way around. McCain was used by the ultraconservative wing of the republican party. His original choice for VP was senate turncoat Joe Lieberman. However, the ultraconservatives made it very clear to McCain that there would chaos at the 08 RNC if he picked Lieberman. So he picked Palin in an effort to satisfy the ultraconservative wing of the republican party, and to pick up "disaffected Clinton voters".

Palin jumped at the opportunity to serve as VP, but didn't realize that anti-abortion, pro-gun, and faux patriotism rhetoric may secure her popularity with conservatives in this country, but not with independents, moderates, and racial and ethnic minorities. So don't blame McCain for Palin's mess.
