President Grown-Up

Commented Dec 30, 2009 at 17:12:34 in Politics

“As long as the President believes he can get anywhere by engaging foreign leaders whose political situations do not permit accommodations with the U.S., and as long as he and his attorney general think a $75,000,000 show trial of 9/11 plotters will convince the world we are good people, he is not a grown-up. He is a three year old if he believes that nonsense.”

Twillied replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 19:18:09

“Your comment is the epitome of what is wrong with the right-wing in this country. It displays outward contempt for one of the best Presidents that we've ever had, complete, and I mean absolute, ignorance of the Constitution and the rule of law, and disdain for any implementation of intellect regarding the governance of this country.”

OneLiberalLady replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 18:01:34

“Oh, why bother?”

AxelDC replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 17:40:29

“And you seem to think tossing aside the Constitution because the President points his finger and calls someone "terrorist" makes you patriotic?

To me, that's a violation of the American Revolution, where we fought to prevent the government from throwing you in prison at their will just because they say so.”

DannyDanson replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 17:32:07

“SaliHardy, give it break, the low-information outrage is getting old, you probably don't know this but we are fighting a war in Yemen right now, this President is doing more to break the backs of terrorist organizations around the world than the Iraq war, terror alerts, gitmo, or GOP grandstanding, and tough talking ever did, isn't that what we as Americans want, save the sentimentalism and symbolism, for something less significant than protecting the nation, our justice system works, it's something to be proud of, not something we should fear as being incompetent and unable to rise to the severity of terrorism, us justice system isn't great because it can convince people we are good people, it's great because it is the best most efficient system in history.

You and you are an embarrassment!”

PrimusElijah replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 17:29:07

“He's grown up because he makes the hard choices in compliance with long held US beliefs. If you are willing to throw away the rule of law and civility every time you're scared; well...that I would consider childish.”

tbrnotb replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 17:19:15

“You ARE a three year old who wants everyone to panic and run around like we did for 8 years when your buddies were screwing up the war on terror. Your opinion is just that,,,,and a minority opinion at best.”

What Next in the Battle for Health Care Reform?

Commented Dec 23, 2009 at 16:59:45 in Politics

“It's all very well to blame Senator Lieberman for the defeat of healthcare reform, but the fact is that the bill, crafted by Democrats addressed the problem of health insurance, not health care. The problem lies with the President who had no clear idea of what healthcare reform really meant because he never wrote it down. He left that to the corrupt Representatives and Senators. This bill, and how it is crafted, is a disgrace to the entire Democratic Party, from the President down. I expected better of him.”

Lieberman Betrayal Illustrates Why Senate Filibuster Rules Must Change

Commented Dec 16, 2009 at 14:43:00 in Politics

“There are plenty of things I can find to disagree with Joe Lieberman about. There are things he has done of which I disapprove. But I am aghast at the vitriol thrown his way because he is doing what he thinks is right. He took an oath of office, people, to this country, not to any party. He is fulfilling his oath. He was elected in what I presume were fair elections. He won because he won more votes than his Democratic and Republican opponents. It would seem some of the people who loathe him think the various means of writing healthcare bills are fine. I think they stink, are far too partisan and have loads of private interests that come before American patients and taxpayers. I agree, if you think Congress should have different rules, but neither the Senate nor the House of Representatives agrees with us.”

Architectural 'Intolerance' in Switzerland

Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 15:50:14 in World

“How many Christian churches or Jewish synagogues or Hindu temples were built in Muslim countries in the past ten years? The Swiss should do their proportionate share, and no more. It is, however, up to the Swiss, and apparently, they don't want minarets. Why should they have what they don't want? And the refugees from Yugoslavia? Quiet there now. The refugees can return.”

Obama, China, and Wishful Thinking About American Jobs

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 15:25:16 in Politics

“Message to Obama: It's the economy, Stupid. It's also about jobs. The latest, to pressure business people into employing more workers is straight out of the Neil Kinnock playbook. During his 1987 campaign against Margaret Thatcher, Kinnock suggested on talk radio no less that if each British shopkeeper hired one more worker, unemployment would go away. An shopkeeper called in and asked,"why should I hired more workers than I need? For you? Get serious."

I am not sure when the Obama Administration will get serious, assuming it ever will, but the sooner the better.”

The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Geithner Should Step Down

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 15:18:04 in Business

“Tim Geithner is singlehandedly making people long for the Bush Administration again. At least, they didn't try to destroy the economy deliberately.”

hp blogger Linda R. Monk, J.D. replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 23:15:41

“Can't agree with that. Paulson was as much a part of the Bush Administration as Geithner is of the Obama Administration. And the problems really started under Bill Clinton and Bob Rubin with the repeal of the Glass-Stegall bill that kept banking and investment houses separate, a major reform of the New Deal. So there is plenty of blame to go around. Those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it.”

plumnelly replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 16:48:07

“ya, they did, cutting taxes while fighting two wars, making us indebt to china. Don't forget, Bush wanted to hand over social security to his wall street buddies. Actually, republicans are still trying to get their hands on social security and privatize it. We have already experienced what the policies of cutting taxes on the rich have gotten us, bigger bonuses for the Goldman Sachs executives, God's workers.

Timothy Geithner didn't pay his taxes and yet got appointed to an ever better position of helping his Goldman Sach's buddies to loot our country while in a near depression. Actually, there are many communities experiencing a depression.

He has to go, along with Summers. Put Volker, Krugman, or Warren in, each one would do a better job.”

nevergiveup replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 16:32:53

“I don't care if Bush Co did it intentionally or not—the fact that they did it is enough for me to never want to ever see another Republican President or Congress.

Greed is not good, and this much greed, apparently, can lead to the destruction of the global economy.

Time for Geithner to G O.”

Leadership, Obama Style

Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 17:29:03 in Politics

“I hope Obama's presidency is very successful. But thus far, his foreign policy ploys have been ridiculous. Sending Senator Lurch from Massachusetts to Afghanistan was a joke. He engineered a run-off election and was hailed for his triumph. Unhappily, the Afghans refused to cooperate and there will be no run-off. Lurch, typically, talked to the wrong man. Obama drew a line in the sand about ending expansion of Israeli settlements in disputed territories. The Israelis, understandably, refused to put their lives on hold, like the Palestinians, and certainly not for Obama. So, they balked. They did offer some concessions, and typically the Palestinians and other Arabs said, "not enough." So, when Hillary, our vastly experienced secretary of state trumpeted success at getting Israeli concessions, the Arabs gave the Middle Eastern equivalent of a Bronx cheer. And Libya's Khaddafi was bombed into silence by Reagan, and so terrified by the despised George W. Bush that he abandoned his nuclear venture. However, after listening to Obama, he bought the Scottish Attorney General, secured the release of the Lockerbie bomber, and organised the Libyan equivalent of a ticker tape parade for the mass murderer of Americans, after receiving calls from The White House urging no celebration. We are despised and certainly not respected. The world's only great superpower is becoming irrelevant. So is our dollar. None of this can be blamed on the Bush Administration. Yes, Obama inherited a mess. So did Bush.”

tangoparisienne replied on Nov 02, 2009 at 18:55:48

“I am sorry that you are so angry that you cannot see the forest for the trees. We have regained some of our stature abroad. You need only go abroad now as opposed to 18 months ago to both see and feel the difference.

I am sorry but 90 percent of this can be blamed on the Bush Administration. Every American I personnaly know, who lives abroad was mortified every single time the former president was on an internationally televised feed. You dared not speak in the native language or English. Our American accents are still and always will be very present in our speech.

The mess Obama inherited was largely the making of GWB. That does not excuse his current lack of leadership. However, it is a fact and we must acknowledge it and move on.”

Why Wall Street Reform is Stuck in Reverse

Commented Oct 22, 2009 at 16:32:21 in Politics

“Only in America would a man who didn't know a male house of prostitution was operating in his home, like Congressman Barney Frank, be put in charge of formulating regulatons for a $590+ trillion industry like derivatives or protecting consumers, or cleaning up the financial services industry, all the time accepting donations from the very people he is supposed to be regulating.”

What Olympia Snowe's Support Could Mean

Commented Oct 14, 2009 at 15:47:01 in Politics

“It's hard to believe anyone supports the measures before Congress now on healthcare. Why didn't someone start with a perfect healthcare plan, and then look at starting to get there. Now, we have our bought-and-sold Congress lining their pockets and those of their lobbyist buddies' employers. How does that help us, and doesn't that practice cost us billions? Why didn't the President start with something that was solely designed to care for Americans' well-being, instead of a process that only helps the Congressional thieves and slickies who no longer know right from wrong.

Update: Meg Whitman Does Not Heart Van Jones

Commented Sep 05, 2009 at 19:24:45 in Politics

“In this case, Meg Whitman is right to run as hard as she can from Van Jones. So should the U.S. government. However, Meg Whitman isn't a racial racketeer, but e-Bay and PayPal weren't exactly great corporate citizens, either.”

Bill Clinton: Purdum a "Sleazy" "Slimy" "Scumbag"

Commented Jun 05, 2008 at 17:32:01 in Home

“Those who think Bill and Hillary are pursued by "a vast right-wing conspiracy" should consider that was Hillary's response to the proceedings during her husband's impeachment. Note that at no time does a Clinton really take the blame for anything. The Paula Jones thing was all a GOP plot. Really? Didn't Bill have anything to do with that? Gee, I guess he did, but of course that depends on what the meaning of is is. They take us all for fools, and they did fool 18,000,000 of us again.

God preserve the Republic.”

Journey To The Center Of Hillary Clinton's Mind: "Why Would I Drop Out Before Barack Obama Is Assassinated?"

Commented May 25, 2008 at 12:58:12 in Politics

“The flap about Senator Clinton's remarks about the assassination of Robert Kennedy should, I hope, teach her not to pounce so delightedly on gaffes from her many enemies. To give her the benefit of the doubt, it is unlikely she is hoping for someone to rid her of Senator Obama. She has repeatedly distorted the meaning of others' statements, and is very quick to point the finger. Perhaps she will stick to laying out what she would do as President with such problems as her husband's presence, and the list of supporters to the Clinton Foundation and Library. The aura of sleaze and corruption from her husband's time in The White House would have to be disspelled before she can be elected president and governing effectively. Even by Congressional standards, the profits made by the Clintons for their Administration are staggering.”
