“i'm a little bummed out about this because of how people are reacting. where's the hope and national pride and unity? why are so many people being so negative instead of being more constructive? 2016 is 8 years away. that's a lot of time for progress.”

“Are you talking about the negative racists? I don't expect anything else from them, do you?
You apparently don't visit or message on any politcal message boards or you would already know what the problem is.
These racists haters have no hope, national pride nor unity when it comes to a Black President; it all goes out the window. They are so hate-filled, they would rather destroy America than allow President Barack Obama to become successful as its President. Sad but true.
If you would like to visit a great political message board, try NEWSVINE. It is great. I use it often.”

“i tried going natural for 6 months in college. i never had to spend so much time on my hair until that period in my life! so i went back to relaxers. i relax my hair every 2-2.5 months ($4.99 and up at my local beauty supply store) or i straighten it on my own with heat. in the RTP area of NC there are salons that do a wonderful wash and set for $10.00 so when i don't want to do it on my own i walk-in on a saturday morning for some pampering.”

“That's because maybe you didn't know what you were doing? I too have gone natual and it has been that way for 3 years now. It wasn't until I stopped trying to make my natural hair behave like straightened hair, that I was able to truly love and enjoy it without spending a lot of time on it. Unfortunately, so many black women have never worn or seen their natural hair, excluding "new growth" so they don't know how to care for it and get frustrated really fast.”

“i had a gun pulled on me in a traffic stop once. i was driving my first car and it had electrical problems so i couldn't roll my windows down. i put my hands up where he could see them, but this deputy still felt the need to draw his gun. when i finally got the go ahead to open my door, he holstered his gun and told me that he stopped me because it's illegal to temporarily display a license plate in the rear window. i was livid, but i had to play the game and wait for him to finish with his lecture so i could be on my way.”
Liberation Theology vs. Victoria Jackson

“great read. your post is probably the best explanation of black liberation theology that i've ever read. i didn't know that there was name for it until the 2008 campaign. i apparently grew up listening to this type of teaching in church all my life and didn't know it. the label itself irks me because the term doesn't sound very inclusive from the outset. i guess it makes people who aren't black or who know nothing about it feel as if it's a form of theology that's rooted in getting back at "the man" and harping about "the man" all the time or something.”

Report on Forensic Science Challenges Accuracy of Evidence Analyses
Commented Mar 09, 2009 at 19:34:28 in Politics
“improvements in instrumentation and methodology has greatly increased accuracy in recent years, but there is a problem in how new and better techniques are performed by technicians and analysts. i can attest to the fact that funds are a major issue. this affects the quality of training, lack of personnel which means an increase in individual workload, an increased backlog, etc. this is no way an excuse for bad behavior.
i must say that the CSI effect is alive and well. i read a journal article once that recounted several stories about jurors who were interviewed after what were thought to be a pretty cut and dry cases. one story that stood out for me was that a juror stated that they couldn't find the defendant guilty based on the amount of evidence because crime scene technicians didn't collect fingerprints from the blades of grass at the scene of the crime.”

Brown v. Monkey

“i got into an argument with someone about the brown/rihanna incident this past weekend. she said i was seeing the situation as black and white and that rihanna may have done something to make him flip out, that she heard this, and she heard that. she tried to say that she was not excusing his behavior, but that he shouldn't be going to jail for something like this or get charged with a felony, that there are worse crimes in the world, etc. there is no excuse for any man to put his hands on a woman that way! period. and we should all be outraged by this.
that said... i think the imagery in that cartoon was racist. don't know what was in that guy's heart or mind, don't know him from adam or steve, but the imagery in that cartoon takes me right to that conclusion.”

Michelle Obama Pregnant? Why The Nation Needs Her Bundle of Joy

I don't think she is and I just want her to put bubble wrap around her heart. First Lady's Feelings count too when it comes to their appearances :):):)”

Gay Marriage, Part 2

“it stings but that doesn't mean i don't believe the two to be no less equal now. i know it's weird, but the best way to describe the feeling is that the truth hurts sometimes. i guess i didn't equate the two originally because of my life experiences. i had an "eccentric" upbringing and i was taught to treat everyone equally. (i went to a pentecostal church, my dad's best friends were muslims, etc.). i've seen and experienced racial discrimination firsthand, but somehow i've gone through life without noticing or seeing outright hateful behavior being expressed against a gay person firsthand. i guess i should also mention that i live in n.c...

“this is long. hope it all gets posted and people are kind enough to read it :-).
it's kind of weird but i must admit that i was afraid at first when i found that so many people were upset about obama's decision. it's the kind of fear that you feel when you've upset someone very dear to you and you don't know if you could ever be forgiven for it.
the more i read the posts and comments here, the more i realize how uninformed and quite literally oblivious i was to the facts and other ideas people have about gay rights. i admit it still stings to hear people equate gay rights to civil rights in terms of racial equality. i'm just praying that we can all work this out and that a majority will be able to leave the table with some sense of satisfaction. i'm hoping ( :-) ) that further discussion will be more elevated and thoughtful and that we won't insult each other and demean each other as everyone airs out their thoughts and feelings. i'm believing that we'll come to the right decision in the end.
i was once strongly against gay marriage. then i strongly supported civil unions. that sort of made me feel good about myself. now my heart strings are being pulled away from that stance.”

“Gay rights are civil rights. Go see the movie 'Milk' and you'll learn how horribly gay people were treated just 30 years ago. They were arrested and jailed just for being homosexual. They were murdered and the police didn't even bother investigating their deaths, they were called 'tricks' when in reality they were just somebody's boyfriend.
A little over 5 years ago a friend of mine was in New Orleans with his lover on vacation and they were brutally assaulted, put in the hospital. Their assailants waited for them outside of the bar because they saw them holding hands when they walked in. The cops did nothing about it.
Gay people are oppressed, attacked and denied equal rights under the law based on their sexual orientation and that is a violation of civil rights. There is no legal justification for denying gay people the right to commit to legal marriage, another violation of civil rights.
Why on earth would it sting for you to see people equate racial equality with equality for sexual orientation in civil rights terms? Differences in the degree of oppression?
Regardless of how much worse it is for one group or the other, when it comes down to it they were both denied civil rights. And the same people doing the denying used the Bible as justification. There is a corollary there, it's not all that subtle either.”
