“I hear democrats complimenting the health care bill ironed out by senate, stating that the profit is restricted to 15% while 85% of health care dollars are actually spent towards care. That would only encourage the health insurance companies to increase the premiums beyond measure in the absence of public option, as 15% of more premium would amount to more take home cash towards bonuses etc.. And that is no consolation.”
Mason Dixon replied on Dec 22, 2009 at 23:13:10
“No, no, no. It's not 15% profit. It's 15% overhead, or which some part of that may be profit. As Wendell Potter said: The industry is driven by "two key figures: earnings per share and the medical-loss ratio, or medical-benefit ratio, as the industry now terms it. That is the ratio between what the company actually pays out in claims and what it has left over to cover sales, marketing, underwriting and other administrative expenses and, of course, profits."
So this bill forces them to spend 85% on medical care.”

“Is Dean loosing the debate? It is wrong for Obama administration to negotiate with drug companies and others even before a serious debate on health care reform started.. Unfortunately, the insurance and drug costs were allowed to go up while the debate is going on, and that should only increase the cost of health care and not reduce it as Obama wanted. Having allowed the prices to go up, and now the senate is sucking in to the schemes of health care companies. How paradoxical? Dean is right. It is not necessary to add another feather in Obama's cap.”

“Right from the beginning, Rahm has been giving mixed messages regarding health care reform. He seems to be hand in hand with Joe Lieberman. If Obama is serious in implementing meanigful health care reform, he should not be influenced by their advice or dodge.”

Obama doesn't implement healthcare reform congress does... congress is failing, Obama sends Emanuel over to get the democrats to quit bickering because Reid can't do it.
You lefty zealots seem to mjiss the fact that Rahm and Lieberman have little to do with the problem and that the biggest issue is the bill itself. You think its some sort of game where you win if this bill becomes a law.... if it does, its a joke more on progressives than anybody else...
you can all pat each other on the back while you stand in line to by health insurance from a private insurer. It will be illegal to walk around without it. Had the public option survived, you'd still buy private because of the high price on the public option. Meanwhile any chance to reform the healthcare industry has been wasted... by the Dems... who were more worried about buying votes by being able to say everyone in America is insured... meanwhile the costs of healthcare continue to rise.”

“Not sure whether Tiger should have quit professional golf at this point. He must be feeling akward to face the friends and the crouds who were all praise for him in the past, not knowing how they react now. Besides, it could be a problem of focus in the game without which there could be series of defeat that may result in irreversible damage to the image of his supremacy as a golfer. With the break from golf, if he fails to repair the damage to his marriage, it would be all the more difficult to get back to golf. We have to wait and see.”

Clinton, Gates Walk Back Obama's "Locked In" Afghan Withdrawal
Commented Dec 06, 2009 at 08:23:24 in Politics
“Obama is seriously trying to resolve the crisis in Afganisthan and Pakisthan. His speech to escalate the troop level is also focussed not only on pleasing the conservative republicans and some democrats, but also the liberals who desire complete withdrawl at the earliest. Finally what matters is the condition on the ground, and how we withdraw keeping a winning face. The rest of it is just politics.”
