“We always make pitchers of cosmos when we're playing cards. My str8 brother loved them so much he made me teach him how to make them. He bought a pitcher of his own to make them. It happened to have fish on it. He made them for his buddies on poker night, now every poker night they say "Hey Shane, why don't you make us a fishy pitcher?"”

We watched the northern lights from the end of an old dock jutting several stories above Superior. A lovely part of the country. And the pasties were tasty!”

“For my our anniversary dinner, we ordered a $35 dollar bottle of wine with dinner. The sommelier uncorked it and turned to me to ask if I would like to try it before he poured. I just laughed and said "For a $35 bottle of wine? That probably cost $12 at the store? If it cost $150, then I'd definitely say yes, for $35, just pour. It'll be fine." He laughed.”

“You obviously feel defensive, which would make me think you doth protest too much. I find both meat eaters and vegetarians to be smug and condescending, much as you're being now. Both feel free to cast their opinions when rarely asked for them. It seems to me YOU are the one making assumptions. And as for your factory farming comment, that applies to both a vegetarian diet as well as a meat diet. Why don't YOU look into it... start with Monsanto and GMOs. You can then move into how migrant farm workers are treated on these vegetable farms and orchards. So drop your condescending platitudes and crawl back down from your pillar. You'll get a nose bleed in those lofty altitudes.”

Michael Spencer Orange on Feb 16, 2014 at 16:05:09

“I don't think I am protesting too much. I think vegetarians protest stupid comments like yours way too little.

And I don't eat Monsanto foods. I avoid GMOs altogether. Nice try though.

Doth I protest too much? Oooh. You got me... I may feel a little defensive (unapologetically) because of your initial scathing and wrong comment about a totally innocuous article about the shared experiences of vegetarians.

As far as the plight of the migrant farm worker goes, I am all behind anything you or anyone else would propose to make their lives better - including paying them more and/or extending citizenship to the undocumented workers. I have no problem paying more for my food when it means treating people fairly and humanely.

Do you have any more ideas?”

Michael Spencer Orange on Feb 10, 2014 at 09:23:22

“Because, like I said, it's called factory farming. You asked why can't someone just eat what they like without judgement. That is the answer. If you choose not to look into it, that is your business. But don't act like vegetarians are running around being smug - I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and I know plenty of them. We don't act smug. And usually we keep our opinions to ourselves when people aren't asking. You might feel otherwise but that is probably from assumptions rather than fact.”
