60+ House Democrats Say "Any" Health Bill With No Public Option Is "Unacceptable"
Commented Dec 24, 2009 at 20:15:46 in Politics
“There will never be a successful debate in the future for a public option. period. The insurance industry has managed to maintain it's exemption from anti-trust laws and soon will have every American Citizen forced to enroll in their monopolistic health plans. If you think corporate lobbyists were powerful this time around just wait a year or two to see just what powerful monsters will have been created. The insurance industry will be richer, more powerful and more arrogant than they've ever been before. In fact lobbyists from every industry in the country will be emboldened to fight any and all new policies from green technology, environmental restrictions, health care, energy. You name it and it's going to be a tooth and nail battle.”

“I agree with most of your post but don't agree on the race issue. In my eyes Tiger was always a likeable fellow who happened to be talented at this sport. Race never entered my mind.”
customgreen replied on Dec 23, 2009 at 12:54:55
“Race might have never entered you mind, but unfortunately it was a huge part of many peoples minds. Tiger is a very personable man, he is well educated, he speaks in warm tones. He is not a threatening sports figure, and I think thats what so many people found they liked about him. He made fans of the game of golf who never watched the game. It is so sad that this has happened, sad that it came to light, sad that he isn't a better man, sad that his family will suffer untold humilities, sad for the game of golf, sad to see women grab their 15 minutes of fame, sad to know that yet another person so many looked up to was no where near what they had hoped for.”

“I'm rarely (almost never) hearing the term "sexual addiction" come up. I think Tigers got a real problem and needs some help. Instead of just tearing him down- though I agree it's sad- I think we need to realize that this is a mental health issue and needs to be treated as such.”

A Rebuttal to Howard Dean: I Am a U.S. Senator, and I Will Vote For This Bill
Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 11:31:44 in Politics
“The passage of this bill in it's current form will only make the anti-trust exempt insurance companies bolder and richer. I think whatever we get passed will end up being with us for a long, long time. Whenever the issue comes up again the emboldened lobbyists will just have that much more money and influence. I really can't believe I'm seeing this happen in this country. Mandatory subscription with no public option. We are so scr@wed.”

“Maybe it's time to start researching third parties and seeing what they offer. This two party system is much like the big pharma and health insurance industries. They are really one. We will never get healthy competition in our government until we bring in a third party.”

4. Then be able to compete with China's labor force. (Still working on it)”

“I feel the same way. I've never been so involved in politics as I am now with the net. I think it's important also because it lets our elected representatives know we are watching them closely and that we are prepared to take the appropriate actions required such as posting on this site, calling our reps offices and pooling our knowledge, opinions and actions.”

“It's difficult to change a system that is so powerful and corrupt- witness also the health care fiasco. Americans have every right to distrust a government that can't stand up to the financial bureaucracy. My own opinion is that we now have two govnerments running the country. The reps that are elected by the people and one that is appointed by corporate boards. When the bankers visit the White House they are treated like foreign dignitaries. How can we change this? I'm at a loss.”
esfranklin replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 11:18:39
“I disagree. We have one government running the comp... that is, country. No candidate is considered "serious" unless he/she can raise enough money to run a campaign. The mega-corporations and their overlords are the major campaign funders. By the time voters make their selections, the options have already been decided by those funders - Corporate Candidate A, who supports corporate power and pays lip service to liberal social policies, or Corporate Candidate B, who supports corporate power and pays lip service to conservative social policies. When either candidate is elected, that candidate will go about promoting the policies of his or her financial backers in order to ensure re-election next time around. Everything comes down to reforming how campaigns are financed and run. Until we manage that miraculous feat, we will never be able to address these other pressing issues.”

“I think I agree with you! If we had a draft we would never have gotten into two wars. Afghanistan yes. Iraq no. If we had a draft today there would be riots on college campuses and in the streets of this country just like the 1960's. As long as the military can recruit from the underprivileged and unemployed these wars will continue (unfortunately).”
